Do you follow toku actors after their series ends?
Didn't know where to put this since it involves Sentai/Kamen Rider/Other toku series so I decided to be safe and put it in general :)
Anyway, it's pretty common knowledge that staring in a Kamen Rider series is often a big break for young actors but I was curious if any one else here has followed their favorite toku actor/actress after their show has ended? For me the only Toku actor I've really followed after seeing him in a toku show is Miura Ryosuke. I became a big fan of Miura Ryousuke after watching him play Ankh. I watched his older drama's including Delicious Gakuen(which was filled with other toku actors and Nissy(AAA) who sung Den-O's theme song) and own his three singles. I also bought his one officially subbed and released movie on iTunes. I also watch everything Matsuzaka Tori is in but since he is what got me to watch Sentai in the first place he doesn't count :p Even those I don't follow though I always get exited when I see toku actors pop up in my JDramas. Like Watanabe Shu(Eiji) appearing in Shinigami-kun, or Fukushi Sota(Gentaro) being one of the lead actors in Yowakutemo Katemasu. |
I have been trying to see what some of my favorite actors do after their roles. I've only really done it with Suda Masaki and Hiro Mizushima though.

I actually find it pretty hard to do so. From my experiences toku actors can go onto big things, but only big things within Japan. And minus big movies, very little of Japanese media actually officially makes it across the pond so you have to rely on fansubs.
However considering there are still huge holes in the toku fansubbing library you can imagine that very few of those smaller Japanese dramas get a look in - if at all. About the only time I'm able to follow a toku actor is through toku productions, like if they play a different character on another show or get a cameo. Which is a shame as a lot of those non-toku projects they move to sound pretty interesting. |
Kind of.
I don't follow them expressly, like watch their works because they're in it. However, if they do show up in another work that I can watch (Generally being another Toku, since J-Dramas and other quite-unquote high caliber works don't tend to make it to the States and are rarely subbed), I will be one to remember them. |
Not really.
I'm not the kind of guy who looks at live action shows outside of toku. |

Sure there are only a handful that I know have been officially subbed for American audiences(Crunchy role has around five Japanese drama's most of the dramas they sub are Korean) but if we are strictly talking officially subbed tv shows for overseas audience that's more than Toku(I think...) Good Drama has tons, and you can also find the names of drama's they are in through their Dramawiki and google it yourself. Not saying you halve too but following them is easier than you think. or if you want you can just look at their Good Drama pages(though they don't always have every subbed show for an actor), for example Chiba Yudai(Alata- Goseigers) http://www.gooddrama.net/actor/1919_chiba-yudai Matsuzaka Tori ( Takeru - Shinkenger) http://www.gooddrama.net/actor/1102_matsuzaka-tori http://www.gooddrama.net/actor/2026_tori-matsuzaka (yes he has two...don't know why XP) Miura Ryosuke(Ankh - OOO) http://www.gooddrama.net/actor/1331_miura-ryosuke Aiba Hiroki (Ryunosuke -Shinkenger) http://www.gooddrama.net/actor/1330_aiba-hiroki |
I only follow Masahiro Inoue (Decade) and Hanada Kento (Faiz) on twitter. So I don't. I'm not into J-dramas either so I only like these guys on social media.
EDIT: Now I'm following Tsuabaki Takayuki (Blade) |

J-Drama's have been my main entertainment for years now before starting to watch Toku, those and subbed variety shows/music shows from Japan. Or unsubbed to help practice my Japanese. So choosing my next drama based on a toku star isn't really going out of my way. Though it is a lot harder to find subs of their shows compared to some of my favorite actors/actresses/idols who are big names who get more dramas and have more of their dramas subbed by fans of theirs. |
I follow Masahiro Inoue on Twitter, but that's really it.
On the anime front, Ichimichi Mao (Luka/Gokai Yellow) is becoming pretty easy to keep track of, since she's been popping up in more shows. |
I usually try to keep up with as many actors as possible by checking their blogs or twitter. If my Japanese is sufficient for what I want to write, I also comment from time to time.
As for their projects- if there's something that I'm interested in, I try to watch it. I've seen the Ouran High School Host Club live action because I really liked Yudai Chiba in Goseiger (at that point, I didn't even know there was tons of other toku actors in that one) and the Switch Girl live action because I had seen Renn Kiriyama talking about it on his blog (it was pretty bad though). Still need to catch up Tokyo Ghost Trip as well. As I'm also a huge Sailor Moon Fan, I knew some actors before seeing them in Toku, either from the musicals and the live action and atm Yuu Takahashi (Yuri from Kiva) is my main reason to watch the current musicals. She's such a cute Jupiter <3 |
It seems Masahiro Inoue is quite popular, despite how normal it is to hate on Decade :p
Makes since though, Inoue is a cute dork. It was all his interviews with Gackt that made me decide to watch Decade and get into Kamen Rider(that and Gackt singing the theme) Quote:
And of course I only watch projects I'm interested in as well ^^ |
Despite Decade being far from a great show, Masahiro Inoue really seems to love his role as Tsukasa and that's really cute imho. He seems to be a cool guy behind the scenes and I really like his twitter. The Hurricanegers also often talk about Toku in their tweets and sometimes Beet Buster and Escape chat as well. I've also seen Mele post a lot of photos with other fellow actors, such as GekiRed and also Go-On Black.

I do! I follow most of the actors in KR, Sentai and Garo. Mostly I read their blogs and stuff on tumblr/LJ or the actual blogs themselves. Especially so for toku actors that come from Watanabe entertainment; like Seto (Kiva), Usui (Go-on Green), Arayan (Rio - Geki), Sho (Enter - Go-busters), Zukki (GekiRed), Ryuuki (Fourze-Kengo), Yuki (Gokai blue), Channaka (Yuuto-DEN-O), Junjun (ToQ1) etc. there are lots @_@ it is kinda hard to track all but I try~~~ XD Twitter is a great help with keeping up on their works.
Haha in fact most of the time it is a huge circle, since I follow WE so much, the Kouhais end up in toku too! So l end up going OH I KNOW HIM/HER when they release the actor details. Kinda fun. XD Got to know WE because of Japanese musicals/plays that I follow. I am a huge fan of anime/manga musicals and plays! XD in fact I am going to Japan to watch our dear decade act as Yukio (from Ao no Exorcist) soon~~~ wwww XD |
Depends on whether or not they really wowed me in a series.
Wait, what do you mean by follow? |

I normally do, I even have Captain Marvelous as a follower on Twitter.
I like knowing what they do especially some of my favorite ones. I wish there was a better way of finding out what some of them are doing these days. |
