Head Canon: Yay or Nay?
 

I was just wondering what the popular consensus was about head canon among-st these forums and whether you use it yourself.

I was thinking about douchey Kenzaki from kamen Rider Decade. I had a thought that the reason why he acts this way is because the joker personality warped his sense of justice. The other Jokers from Blade were shown to be douchebags at the beginning.So it could be that Kenzaki has not been around people so long, due to the show's ending, that what he thinks is right is not actually true.

I use what they give me. Using a head canon to fix what the writers failed at doesn't gel well with me.

Head Cannon, imo, is OK as long as you don't try to force it on other people and don't call them wrong when they disagree.

This shit is why I left tumblr, "Every character in this show is gay, that is the LAW, if you disagree with me I'm going to flood you with abuse until you're so down about it you avoid all the content of the stuff you love."

I'm glad people forcing their theories of a show, that have zero internal evidence unless you fucking bend everything, is completely absent from this forum. If this shit started cropping up I'd ejector seat faster than you can say 'Destiel'.

Head canon welcomes speculation and alternate interpretations, so I'm all for it... put yeah, there's a limit to stuff like that. :lol

The problem is when that head canon bends the show's canon just to make one's interpretation of the character law. It disregards actions and statements to make a character more likable or less sympathetic, depending on what side of the spectrum you're sitting on.

When a show is vague and intentionally leaves it up for interpretation, wanting fans to establish head canon, that's fine. But when a show outright states what's going on, but someone chooses to disregard it because it casts their favorite character in a more negative light (Or their least favorite character in a more positive light) is when things get angering.

Fair enough. As I said head cannons have their limits.

A thing about Head Cannon I dont like is if shows cant manage to tell a logical story and people make stuff up to fill in the Blanks. Thats not bad in and of itself but when those people expect from you to accept those made up storylines as facts it becomes really annoying real fast.

When a show does that too much, it feels more like bad writing.

Yeah, nothing pisses me off like someone making excuses for bad storytelling. "Well actually I interpreted it this way so actually it's a fantastic *thing*". No, your opinion is that it's a good thing, because of your theory, but what is personal to you is automatically not a fact for everyone else. You have to be pretty damn smug to be blinded by your own fan wank.

*cough cough* Decade! *cough cough*

It's really rather annoying. It's funny, though, because I actually like reading fan theories. It helps me to see a show in a different light sometimes.

Its especially frustrating when people make up entire backstories for characters. One of the prime examples of that is Narutaki from Decade. The Character has no backstory whatsoever so people just made up stuff about him and act like its a fact.

My favorite bullshit backstory is that Narutaki is an angry Kamen Rider fanboy from the future that went back in time to stop Decade from causing all of the bad crossover movies fro starting by eliminating him.

So now I'm a hand puppet monkey?... Okie doki. :lol
