Kamen Rider Gaim Episode 30: "The Red and Blue Kikaider!" Discussion
A Red & Blue stranger arrives His Black rival lays dormant waiting for a brain to drive his body Ryouma Sengoku has plans for this pair It's time for a REBOOT! As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams are at [B]6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
This is absolutely the most off the wall insane and crazy episode of the show I've seen so far. It can't possibly be continuity at this point and I love it.
EDIT: And somehow by the end of the episode the LITERAL continuity headache is wrapped up in a bandage and every thing is right with the world :lol This was easily the most insane and awesome crossover I've ever seen between two toku franchises. Just great |
Did anyone else notice what I did in the preview for Episode 31?

I'm legitimately surprised the RAW for this has not made it up on youtube. I also kind of expected subs but it's not unsual too be this long so I'm not complaining.

I can't wait to read Ryouma's rational reasoning for why he needed to become Hakaider, then suck at it, and decide to just throw that plan out the window :lol |
I loved this episode, it makes me totally excited for the movie. I thought the guy who plays Jiro was great. I was happy to see Knuckle too he was a surprise even if his job was to get beat down by Hakaider. Great to see the teamwork between Gaim and Kikaider too. Also the first episode in forever Micchy wasn't a douche lol.

I feel this episode only exists, aside from "WATCH OUR MOVIE!", to prove once and for all that Ryouma is 100% mad scientist. This episode is great. |

This is set "two weeks" ago? Ryoma is Hakaider?
As a crossover it was okay... and might have even worked if timed better. But it was only just okay and it interrupted a thriving story to basically accomplish nothing. |

I believe it's canon now, but at the time it was kind of impossible to tell given the circumstance. |
This episode was decent, but it was a just a pointless filler episode. The episode is not canon to the show and most likely not the movie.
|
If Ryouma can't control the power of Hakaider, how can he expect to control the power of Helheim. :lol

RED AND BLUE! RED AND BLUE EVERYWHERE!
Not only was this episode utterly insane, but it even managed to get me a little bit right there at the end. Absolutely loved it :lol Can't wait to see the Kikaider movie! |

If Gaim's really going to be a shorter series, it really sucks ass that two of it's episodes are filler crossovers. I actually felt like this episode was pretty bad. It didn't sell me on Kikaider. It didn't even sell me on Gaim, and I already watch it. :lol |
see to me this was like THE crossover of crossovers. Absolutely off the wall insane and fun :lol
|
As much fun as the crossovers are, for a show as plot-filled as Gaim, it is kinda annoying to be left on a pretty big cliffhanger the episode prior and then BAM! something entirely different.
But still though, Kikaider was freakin' awesome and I loved him as a kid. One day I gotta get around to getting the figuart... |

Did we watch the same thing? Because Gaim on average is more "insane" than this. None of the fights were particularly grand-scale or even that good, nothing absurdly outlandish happened. I don't get what was so crazy. Half the episode was a really wooden actor pretending to be a beep-boop robot. |
I thought the episode overall for what it was deemed it excellent, however I feel that interrupting such a thriving and important story-arch in Gaim simply to promote the Kikaider Reboot movie was poor timing, and really changed the flow of the story which it shouldn't have done.
I mean, the last episode ended with the Overlord beating up on Micchy, Sid, Kaito, and Kouta, only to then jump in to our world. So let's take a break from that? What?! Again - for what this episode was, I gave it a 5/5. But in the grand scheme of things, this will be an easily forgotten episode that I probably won't re-watch unless I decide I want me some Kikaider, which I don't right now. |
I wasn't sure what to expect and I had fun. I liked that they went the route of making this a sort of origin story type thing, rather than drop Kikaider into this in the middle of the movie, or whatever the hell I was expecting them to do.
And making Ryoma actually do what I was thinking might be too crazy, and put his brain in a freaking android. :lol That was pretty fantastic, especially by the end when he's like "Wow, that was a pretty awful idea". I understand the flak this gets for its placement and all, but I'm of the mindset that a crossover ain't bad if it's fun, and fun it was. :D I like Kikaider, with my limited experience of the anime, so it was a fun break from the deep plot. They also have a moment to feature more of Kota and his sister, so it's not a total waste of time, either. |
Well, that sure... happened.
Again. Can't wait for the episode in a few months where we pause the plot to advertise the Sharivan and Shaider movies. :rolleyes But yeah, this was okay for what it was, but ultimately nothing about this served any point. Setting it in the past means that none of this has affected Gaim in any way, and resetting Jiro's memory means it will have no impact on Kikaider. I get that it's really just meant to get butts into the seat (which is odd, given Kikaider's huge reputation and legacy - I'd think it already has a huge leg up over, say, Gavan), but I'm not sure why we needed to waste a week of Gaim on this. That said, Ryouma deciding to cut his brain out and stick it into a robot just to see how it works is hilarious on every level. I really love the new Kikaider suit, so that's cool, too. Pity they went more classic than Amemiya for Hakkaider, though. Honestly, I kinda wish this Kikaider reboot had happened two years ago, as I think this would have worked a hell of a lot better in almost every way as an arc on Fourze. |
Well I voted good.
For interrupting the plot it was sort of bad timing, as well as this episode having like nothing to move plot along. Now seeing Kikaider did nothing for me. He was sort of bland and the suit was okay, though I loved Hakaiders suit. |
As far as oddly timed crossovers go this one was decent, an ok story, good action, and a clear lead in to the movie.
But it is still an oddly timed crossover, and one that adds nothing to the show. |
I thoroughly enjoyed that, not only did it make me pumped as all hell for the new Kikaider movie it was also a great episode of Gaim in its own right. Ryouma and Kouta both got great character moments and the action was pretty good for a Gaim episode.

On it's own I thought the episode was decent, though I'm not very familiar with Kikaider and even after the episode I don't feel any particular desire to find out more about him. I probably would have enjoyed it more if it's place in the schedule hadn't been so jarring. |
So Kouta can't speak English eh? :lol
Well this was another great episode. Pretty damn cute in the early parts. Also, Hakaider is one bad mother fucker. |
It wasn't anything special but it was fine. I've only read the first manga volume of Kikaider but this new version feels in line with the Jiro I know and that's a good thing for what they're trying to do with promoting the movie. Ryouma was fun, putting his brain into a robot because SCIENCE.

It was ok I guess. Way out of place from the rest of the series.
|
I didn't think I was going to like it at all, but it didn't feel as forced as I thought it would be like the Toqger X Kamen Rider special. You can either include this as canon or not which I like as a viewer of the show.

Hi kids! Dr Ryouma here! Let's have fun with SCIENCE! Here we have the perfect example, your best mad scientist friend loans you his android. What should we do to see how it works kids? http://www.tokunation.com/attachment...1&d=1400596449 That's right kids! Make sure that the lines on your forehead are straight! That bone saw must go clean through to get all that lovely spongy brain scooped out into that robot! Remember kids, only with proper vivisection can you do SCIENCE! |

..although I am not sure what it implies but...would that mean...somehow he inserted his brain in there....I don't want to think how much crazy Ryouma is. well, I guess anything for more data. XD |
It is a really weird creative decision, but I thought it was pretty fun for the character though.
|
Yeah, this was definitely the most . . . 'disturbing' I've seen Ryouma be - cutting out his own brain and then putting it back again. The last time I got a shock like this was in the Wizard Magic Land movie where Wizard and Beast walk in and see the huge tank full of human skeletons. Moments like that having me going: "WHAAAAT? NO WAAAY!" as to how potentially morbid they are.
As for it being an episode of Gaim, I really liked it. I liked how it expanded on a few elements of the show subtly, such as how Kouta has always seen Micchy as his intellectual superior (when he scratches his head and asks him to translate for him), or how we see that Kouta has always been a caring soul wanting to help people/creatures, even in his childhood. |
Have to say the episode was very entertaining and yeah Ryouma is the stereotypical evil genius at this point, though I'm wondering how did he get his brain out and then back in again without killing his human body? The fight scene at the end was just beautiful and it was sweet watching both Gaim and Kikaider beat the day lights out of Ryouma. I also think that was the first time we saw that type of Invest before unless that's supposed to be a bad guy from Kikaider.
|
My thoughts about this episode is...excellent. I loved this episode and it made me glad to see Micchy acting kind of like old Micchy. Not to mention, Ryouma is just simply crazy, inserting his brain into Haikaider. I also loved Jiro, he was kind, warm-hearted, and a very well-played character. Also, loved when Kouta and Kikaider teamed up to defeat Ryouma in Haikaider suit. But I kind of felt sad, when Jiro/Haikaider left off after he was rebooted. Overall, another great series from the fantastic series of Gaim.

Do I need to watch this episode in order to get 31?
