Your post-first-quarter opinion on Ressha Sentai ToQGer
Here we go! I'm in a polling mood.
So we're about a little more than quarter of the way through ToQGer. So what are your thoughts? I'm going to include as many options as I can, and they will be anonymous. |
Freaking love it. Best Sentai since Gokaiger, no contest.
|
I haven't watched in awhile - but I'm still interested. Gaim has kept me busy and I have been doing lots of side projects (podcasts!) which take up my other free time (oh and that whole girlfriend thing too).
|
I saw the first episode and to be frank, it didn't do it for me. It was too childish and almost dumbed down to me. I hated two of the rangers, disliked one, and truly liked one (I was indifferent to green). I'll admit the imagination idea is pretty cool, but it doesn't work here in my opinion. It's just not my breed of Sentai.
|
I definietly wouldn't call one of the best Sentai, but it's an enjoyable, fun show.
I was lukewarm when the series first started, but as it went on: it slowed grew on me. I think my one complaint about the series has to be the villains. At first I loved them, theri designs were great and they were making actual progress. But now that Lord Z has appeared, it feels like they're just killing time until whatever the next big plot is..which I'm guessing is gonna be Greta's wedding. I hate how formulaic the scens with the villains have become, even more so… I hate Greta's little obsession with Schwartz. I absolutely cannot stand the fact that they feel the need to constantly remind us about it ever single episode. Even more so, because she hasn't really done anything. |

:lol And now I'm adding this sentence so that the all-caps filter doesn't go off. :thumb: |
It's been enjoyable but I find it had quite a lull after the 3 initial and fantastic episodes the series began with. It's since picked up steam again but I really did find myself disinterested for 5 or so episodes.
|
I don't watch it. Tried the first episode, literally couldn't stand any aspect of it, it's just aimed at too young a demographic for me to latch onto.
|
Tried watching the first two episodes. Eh.
Gonna go back and see if I could try some more Go-busters |

I actually dropped the series but have been keeping up with the development and spoilers and the future of ToQ does sound like it might be interesting enough for me to pick it back up.
Sadly the main reason I dropped the show far is that it just isn't interesting. It tries to be big and fun and fine whatever for kids toys etc but I guess I'm just spoiled by Gaim because ToQ was sending me to sleep with its self contained, week in, week out silly plot of the week. It would pretend to have character focus but never achieve anything meaningful. The show achieved less in the first 12 or so episodes I watched than Gaim did in just one. |
I've watched every episode sans the last one or two,and it's a great series. Only gripe I have with it is that there has been more focus on Schwartz and Zed then the other two,Nero and Noa.
I'm hoping that Nero becomes the stand-out villain of the series because for them to introduce Zed so early to me says they're either going to off him early or turn him good. Other then that,a great series that I never thought I'd end up liking. lol |
I'll be honest. I skipped last weeks episode. After the meh of Fire Ressha's debut episode, I wasn't looking forward to sitting through it again with Police Ressha.
Second verse same the first. That being said I've caught every other episode and I love this show, more than I thought I would when all this started. |
Definitely been mediocre thus far tbh. Several notches below Kyoryuger IMO. Development of characters still a bit on the weak side. Agreed on the constant reminder of Grita's obsession with Schwarz, excruciatingly superfluous. Also, something of note is that...no discoveries of the Support Resshas felt special IMO (maybe Diesel Ressha to an extent), but they've been underwhelming and lackluster after hyping them on the first episode that they were introduced in. But still holding out though. Positive note though, I did have a "Now THAT'S more like it" phenomenon when Cho ToQ-Oh made it's debut. That's definitely a more convincing mecha that could whoop ass all day and night!

I actually having seen it since Diesal-Oh's introduction, but not because I'm not interested, because I've really enjoyed it thus far! I just have been a little busy with other shows/movies.
|
Man! I absolutely love ToQger right now, and I have grown to appreciate every single character, especially Right! I just love his personality. I think that Super Sentai is doing really well with this train theme right now and I'm loving every episode of it. ToQGer gets a :thumb: up from me!
I also love Diesel-Oh's design, but I still love ToQ-Oh, and can't wait till Akira makes his debut in Episode/Station #18. |

I was one of the louder voices sounding off about this show when the info started coming out, but I have to say it's sort of won me over. It isn't the best show, but it has heart. I'm enjoying most of the characters more and I have been suckered into the train love (my wallet cries when a new Ressha goes up for order). It is not my favorite Sentai series, but it is better than its predecessor and I enjoy watching it and, in the end, that's what matters.

Well after some really great intro episodes, the series just went down hill. I'm even thinking about skipping the show until 6 comes into play.
The show makes Kyoryuger look good, and that's sayin' something. |
Not the biggest fan of the show, and still have to see 13 and 14 - been way too busy with work. I keep watching, hoping that it will get better. Maybe when 6 comes along, it will.
|
Don't like the poll choices, so I'm just going to say I generally like ToQger. It's not great, but enjoyable. The main writer being Kobayashi helps. Most of her work is fairly solid and this is no different.
|
I haven't watched in awhile - but I'm still interested. I've been busy and I tend to watch Gaim more. Not to mention, I got bored with the main cast. I will watch it again when the 6th Ranger shows up.
|
ToQger is just really good fun. It doesn't take itself seriously - it's just lighthearted, goofy fun. Which is a nice contrast to the serious Gaim. Nowadays, I watch TQG for the silliness as a nice precursor to the drama of Gaim.
Not saying Super Hero Time should always be like this, but it's kind of nice. The characters have their own little quirks and the action is always top-notch. Kyoryuger was great and was goofy in a different way from ToQger, so it definitely doesn't seem like a repetitive year, thankfully. |

PS: If you don't watch weekly at least take some time for ep.14. |
I really like Toq and so far, I never missed an episode on the stream. I love the light-hearted tone and simple comedy of the show and the characters are downright adorable (they remind me a bit of the Goseigers, actually)- even though so far, I thought Mio was kinda boring. But then again, Kobayashi's motherly females are all a bit faint, it was the same with Mako/ShinkenPink.
Even though Fire Ressha had a rather boring debut, the Police Ressha episode was kinda enjoyable again, though it is clear the show is in a little slump atm. But then again, it's always better to have a show with a week start or middle part that has a great end then a show that starts out bombastic and has a lame finale. |
I'm in the meh phase. Though I got to say with the theme of this show being imagination, this is probably one of the blandest sentai's I have watched in a while. As far as the entire team, I am okay with most of them, except Right. To quote HeyMickey he is just an awful human being. Add to the fact of the wasted opportunities of the color swapping, which is just wasted on all counts so far, and the horrible mecha designs and bland suits. As of right now I am interested Zed, and imo the only interesting character so far. One last point is that the writing can be awfully sloppy at times. First example being how the police ressha just happened to be there conveniently last episode. The other was two weeks ago, when we had an amnesia episode when one of the points of the toqgers is that they have amnesia.
TL;DR its okay but it needs a lot of work. Hopefully Toq6 makes things more interesting. |
I'm enjoying it a lot, the comedy works well to me, the gimmick is fun and the characters despite the comedic nature don't feel like stereotyped cliches.
It's pretty cool. |
I gave up on the show after five episodes as it just lost my interest. There was nothing in it that was appealing to me outside of the villain designs.
|
IMAGINAAAAAAATTTTTIIIOOOOOONNNNNN. Nuff said.
