Why the Sixth Rangers are so popular?
 

Because the fan love Toq 6Gou's suit design and what make them so unique than other ranger? Is it the design or their personality?

They break the status quo. They change things up for the team. They fill a character archetype that's popular with many people (Over the top goof, aloof loner, etc). They typically have a design element that the rest of the team lack, or are designed differently altogether. The bring a cool new weapon. They bring a cool new mech.

There's a ton more options, but take your pick.

Toqg 6 has a Smart Phone for his morphing device. That's makes him all around 10x cooler.

I'm going to say because they offer an alternative style to their season's suits and powers, and they keep the show from being stale by adding something new, if only after the first 16 out of 50 or so episodes. That and some of us grew up loving the Green Ranger, so it's a habit.

Also they usually have a solo mecha that you can judge early will either improve or ruin whatever cluster-@#%$ final gattai/omegazord the team makes, so there's also that.

Phones as henshin devices are awesome. Just ask those guys with the Greek letters.

Dragonranger: He proved to us that he is the best in 30 hours.

Kibaranger: Has a talking sword.

Kingranger: Drives a pyramid and lived for 600 million years.

Megasilver: He overcame his limit.

Timefire: Made an awesome entrance. Went out like a true soldier.

Gaosilver: He's a hustla baby~ I just want u to know~

Shurikenger: Awesome homage to Dragonranger and awesome gimmick. Plus his Engrish is awesome.

Abarekiller: The most badass troll that ever lived.

Dekabreak: He talks with his fists.

Magishine: An awesome homage to Changerion and has a magic lamp.

Boukensilver: Kicks evil in the butt with a metal detector.

Go-onWings: Kickhopper and a hot gravure idol? Done.

Shinkengold: Sushi.

Goseiknight: Was Kamina in a previous life.

Gokaisilver: Shows otakus that dreams can come true.

Beetbuster + Stagbuster: We got Ozu Tsubasa2.0 and and a drunk robot. Hilarity ensues.

Kyoryugold: The man out of time who has skills and also brings hilarity with his over-politeness.


As for ToQ6 I am looking forward to how he plays a role in the show.

Lol technically Beet and Stag Buster aren't sixth rangers.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. They used to break the status quo, but now they are there to set the status quo.

I miss the days when the sixth ranger was there for needed back up and would have his own subplot sprinkled throughout the series. It made the appearance of the sixth ranger special and he was always there to kick ass and chew bubblegum. These days, the sixth ranger becomes a permanent member of the team right away and gets his ass kicked just as much as the regular rangers because he is all out of bubblegum.

BTW, would you consider GoseiKnight, BullBlack, and VRV Master to be sixth rangers? I'm just curious as funny enough, I am going to be doing a sixth rangers panel at my local anime convention in Sept. I'm trying to get as much footage as I can from the sixths premier episodes so I can see which pieces I want to use. I also could have sworn Gokai did a sixth ranger tribute episode where we saw them all on screen at one time, but I do not know which one that was.

I just listed random reasons, is all.
It does kind of suck that sixth's are now just added to keep status quo.

Concerning sixths, I consider GoseiKnight and Black Knight sixths, but not VRV Master (While PR treated him as a sixth, wasn't Signalman Carranger's sixth?)

The one thing I dislike about sixth ranger, that they sometimes apperaed early like episode 12 or something like that. That shows me how week the team is or the scriptwriters could not making more episode enough for the team or its members like background info or something personal.
But on the another note I really like the sixth ranger, they are unique from the team and they always bring new kind of awesome weapons to the screen:)

They typically appear around episode 16~18. Kyoryugold is an exception since they got 10 rangers in that show. Plus, if they tried to add more fillers to have him get his debut in episode 16 ish, the show could have been boring for at least a month and the show would have become rage quit material.

When I was a kid I loved sixths as they were so shiny and new and it was so exciting. As an adult I've kinda grown to realise how much a show can rely on a sixth, in good and bad ways.

There are bad shows, where the introduction of a great sixth sparks the show back to life but likewise there are shows with a really great core dynamic which gets thrown totally off by throwing someone else into the mix.

Speaking purely creatively, the role of the sixth is probably the only part of sentai these days which actively involves any kind of experimentation so even when they are bad I normally appreciate them on the base level of trying something new.

The reason of why they put Sixth Rangers in every Super Sentai (or some) shoe because Power Rangers wouldn't be successful with kid if wasn't for Tommy Oliver the sixth ranger

My favorite is

Bouken Silver. Because it look badass suit. Look at the helmet! It look awesome! and I thought a detector become a gun is a badass way. I love how Black and Silver go well together.

My runner Up

Shinken Gold. His design is so unique than other Shinkenger. I admitted that his first sort is kindly irony because his animal is squid.

My other favorite

ToQ 6Gou. His design was better than other ToQger. And his color is Orange and Black. He's Halloween ToQger!

Go-On Wing. Despite being a bad show. The Design is cool-looking and Go-On Silver is first FEMALE sixth ranger.

Dragon Ranger and Shurikenger (TIED) My Favorite is Green and I couldn't pick one of them. Both of them are wearing gold armor!

Magi Shine. He's have a Genie Cat! And he look like more like more muscular than other Magiranger

Deka Break. His color is white?! Great idea. Because he so much different than Dekaranger! And he got a punching style which supposedly pay homage to Kung fu movies

Gokai Silver. His visor is GOLD! He is the first ranger to have GOLD visor!

Gosei Knight. He not Human or Angel. He is a non-human! And I love the chest design!

Gao Silver. He's from a thousand year and he manage to play pool without having problem. That's Crazy idea!

Kibaranger. I agree with someone. I love his talking sword and his design look badass than Dairangers

Abare Killer. He is so evil but yet badass and his visor is RED!! RED!

Kingranger. He's got a chest design that look so BIG! and his zord is Pyramid from Egypt!

Kyoryu Gold. He's the only member who is from SAMURAI WARRING STATES!!!

My Runner up of Least Favorite

Time Fire. Despite being a badass warrior. His design is so lazy. It look same as Time Red but they put arrow on his helmet. Really? Bandai?! Really?!

My Least-Favorite (AND THE WORST DESIGN OF SIXTH RANGER EVER!)

Mega Silver. It look same as Megaranger! It lazy design! He doesn't look like SIXTH RANGER!!

My favorite: Dragonranger. The one and only.

Runner-up: Timefire. Watch his debut battle.

My other favorite: Gokaisilver. Shows fanboys and fangirls dreams do come true. :P

Honorable mention: X-1 Mask. He was the foundation for all this madness.

6th rangers became so common after 2000 because Timeranger did so well since the show was very popular. The only post-2000 Sentai shows without 6th rangers is Gekiranger and Go-Busters. 6th rangers always go for the anti-hero role and end up being good. Same goes with secondary riders in Kamen Rider.

I don't view X-1 Mask as a sixth ranger since he was only in one episode from what I can remember. I do view Big One as the early 6th ranger. He's not a official 6th ranger, but he comes pretty close in my opinion.

I think they did once but really short.

The Sixth Ranger slot is usually for the "Sempai", or "Older Brother" ranger. Or, "Red ranger, but cooler..."

Ironically, the first one was the baby brother.

Though he was basically Geki except more badass, so go figure.

I'm pretty sure all of the rangers that Gokai Silver uses and that are shown on his Gold Mode armor are considered as sixth rangers. In addition to those and Gokai Silver himself, Kyoryu Gold and ToQ6 are recognized as sixth rangers.

Bullblack Hyuuga, Signalman, Ninjaman, and Beast-Demon Hunter Zeek are debatable, but personally I wouldn't consider any of them as sixth rangers since Signalman and Ninjaman don't henshin from a humanoid form into their standard forms, and Beast-Demon Hunter Zeek only made an appearance in one episode. As for Hyuuga, since Bullblack is considered as an Extra Hero, it makes sense for Hyuuga to be considered as an Extra Hero as well. Everyone else like VRV Master, Deka Swan, Wolzard Fire, etc. are considered as Extra Heroes.

I consider Black Knight to be the 6th ranger of Gingaman, since they tend to fill the requirements most people set in place. However, since those "Requirements" are just fan made rules, officially, they hold no real precedence.

True, but Gokaiger also treated Black Knight a little differently. He was used with the Bonuses, but he also was saved in their first episode of their appearance while all the others weren't for a far longer time. It seemed like they purposefully treated him as a middle-ground between Sixth and Bonus.

So because of that, AbareKiller is a sixth ranger, yet GekiChoppe isnt? Even though both are the fifth members of their team, and complete different motifs then the rest of team, along with their own megazords?

Abaranger technically had an unofficial fifth ranger, Abare Pink.
