Green With Evil gets special DVD release
Twelve bucks for five episodes-
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...PNFDQYGER4OW3Z (thanks to RangerCrew! |
Not interested solely because I have Netflix.
|
Well it is the only part of MMPR worth owning.
|
I'll get this. I am a big fan of Green with Evil.
|
Going to pass. I've got too much crap as is.
|
I just don't understand the point of a release like this when there are complete season DVD's. I mean back in the day I had the VHS boxed set of Green with Evil. But there was no such thing as a complete season DVD release back then either. This just seems superfluous.
|
Why do I get the feeling JDF is behind this?

My problem with this is that it is $13, will probably be $10 in stores for only five episodes. You can buy MMPR S1V1 for $15 in stores with six times the number of episodes.

Cool

This release seems... Meh. I will probably buy the sets later, but why spend the money for five episodes? Like Den-O said, these releases were a thing to get before we had complete season releases. I honestly think this is just more food to the fire we call JDF ego. So no, I wont be buying it.
|
What if people don't want the full series though? In my opinion Green with Evil is the only part of MMPR that is good. I'd sooner own five episodes I'd actually watch than like fifty episodes with forty five I'd never touch.

And perhaps someone wants to own a part of the show but can't afford a full season DVD? Quote:

It's a money-grab pure and simple. You watch, they're going to release White Light next. And charge the same despite it being only three episodes.

Why do you think the PR full series sets were released during the 20th anniversary and not sooner? To exploit childhood nostalgia and get more buyers, not because fans were begging for them... |
Is the title "Green with Evil" for the digitally edited stripe on the helmet? Someone tell them they forgot to change the morpher ;)

I'd rather buy a movie with 2 hours worth of bonus features I may never watch for $15 than a barebones movie for the same price. I may not watch them, but at least I got my money's worth. |

I can already see the next DVD now.
"Rise of the White Ranger" Containing: Green No More Part 1 Green No More Part 2 Missing Green White Light Part 1 White Light Part 2 |
Also - who cares about the price? This is perfect for fans who loved the "Green with Evil" saga but didn't care for the rest of Season 1 of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I'm that guy!
|
This is par for the Shout Factory course. They have released both "More Then Meets the Eye" for Transformers and "The Mass Device" for G.I. Joe. Shout Factory is jut following the Shout Factory Formula here.
|

There's a reason for that. When they had stuff like that their customers didn't watch. They don't renew content or seek licenses when they know that few people want it. Most of the random junk they get that no one watches they only have because it's packaged by content companies with things they do want to buy. Many things, like Star Wars, aren't available because the owners have no interest in selling the streaming rights. Even Hulu won't have most of the movies you listed and they specialize in old stuff they can get the rights to for cheap. Netflix streaming isn't supposed to have every movie every made. That's just impractical. Netflix as more quality movies and TV shows than any person can watch. Also, try other regions. Tons of content outside the US. |
If they do start releasing specific sagas of episodes centering around certain themes and such, I wonder if we'd get over character specific ones such as Titanium's introduction.
|
:lol
Well yes, this doesn't help the whole JDF ego thing, but he is the (sigh) most marketable Power Ranger at the moment. Plus, the "Green With Evil" series was on VHS once upon a time ... this could get those people who go "OH SHIT I REMEMBER THIS!" to purchase it on impulse for whatever the price is. |

Streaming is all about licensing, which makes is bullshit because I should have access to see any movie I want whenever I want. I cannot even rent these movies because the only places left to rent movies are Red Box and they only carry the big boobied explosion movies. I cannot rent classics from Red Box. Quote:

"Green with Evil?"
More like Green with being a bitch-ass BUSTA. I'm seriosuly laughing hard right now. I can't believe this is happening after the whole JDF shit that went down recently. |

torn... but for 9 bucks, why not. It was definitely the most memorable saga, and I used to own the VHS set as well (cost an absurd amount back then too)
|
Shout! is doing to this to milk the series. Funi does this with the orange bricks DVD sets.

You say it is their agents, but then how come autographs at every anime convention I go to are free? |
