Jason David Frank at SDCC 2014 with Saban Brands and Lionsgate
So.
JDF posted on his Instagram that he will be appearing at SDCC 2014 in a partnership with Saban Brands (Power Rangers owners) and Lionsgate (studio in charge of the MMPR Reboot movie). Thoughts? |
Oh I have thoughts, just none of them are good. But you can't really be surprised at this. He's their cashcow, of course their going to parade him out there.
|
I think we should wait and see what happens. If a majority of us don't like the result, we shall have a JDF witch hunt. :lol
|
Fuck me. Ugh.
I really hope he's just there to promote the last episode of Super Megaforce. |
well I thought I was going to be in the minority until i read the replies. Don't get me wrong I love JDF and what he has done for Power Rangers, but I feel that any involvement with the film out side of promotion will ruin any chance it has of being a true reboot. I'm going to hold my judgment until some more info from the panel come out.
|
Hopefully there's not much to this and there's no connection that involves JDF with the film.
If it does though then nothing could kill my hype faster then JDF being in it. |
I hope he's in the new movie. It'd make it even MORE awesome when I go see it!
|
Tommy rocks. I hope he is in the movie. I hope he becomes a Dino Charge Ranger. Tommy is the best Ranger of all time and all ways will be.
|
As long as he doesn't have a starring or acting role in the film, I could care less. Even then I'd much appreciate him staying far away from any sort of reboot of the series if they plan on rebooting MMPR. He's an actor who while I can appreciate what he's done for the franchise, I have no wish to ever see again in any new productions.
|
They should just give him his own solo movie while they're working on the reboot so they don't have to get super pestered about changing shit in the reboot.
|
If there's one thing Jason David Frank's ego doesn't need, it's a theatrical movie.

Lionsgate being there means we could see some new info on the movie. A teaser poster would be nice. The movie won't be out until at least 2017, but Godzilla did got a poster like two years before it came out in theaters.
|
I just hope this is for the Legendary war and not an announcement for any charging matters that concern Dinos...
|
You know how Wes Craven's New Nightmare was about Nightmare on Elm Street being a fictional work but somehow having Freddy come to the real world a haunt the cast and crew of the people working on the newest film?
I think that's what's gonna happen with this movie. It'll be about Jason David Frank filming something but finding a Power Morpher in real life :p |
If he does get a part in the MMPR reboot movie, I'd imagine it won't be as a Ranger since this being a reboot would mean the Rangers are teenagers again (I assume).
So maybe he'd play a part as a mentor or something to one of the Rangers that doubts their ability to be a hero, and he gives them advice to which they ask 'How do you know so much about what it means to be a hero?', to which he'd reply 'I've had my time being one once or twice.' |

No major parts or important lines. Just make him "Guy ordering drink at (Juice) bar" or something. I know it's unlikely and if he shows up, it'll be an important role, but I want a reboot to be an honest to goodness reboot, meaning there is no prior history and etc. |
I doubt the movie will be the Green Ranger movie that he wants so badly. A Green Ranger movie will never sell well in theaters. Only the hardcore fans will see it and it won't be enough. The new movie is likely going to be a retelling of the original show and will be market to a bigger audience like Transformers was.
I think JDF might have a cameo in the movie, but not a full role. I think if the Green Ranger movie happens then it could be a web series on Machinima. |
he going to be the Stan lee for the film i bet you
|
Ok

I would actually watch that to be honest :lol |
Of course they are going to parade JDF out there. If not ASJ then JDF. Those two are the most recognizable actors from the original series plain and simple.
Now as for the actual movie what I hope for is that all the original actors (along with Bulk and Skull) are in it but they are never even mention as being past power rangers. They each play a different very minor character in the movie. Like Billy being a high school science teacher. And Zack actually BEING Ernie (has a gym and juice bar). Things like that would be a fantastic nod to the original show. |

It's like a nightmare come true.

So... No word on the exclusives, then? That's a bit disappointing.

I would love for some of the veterans of MMPR to return in some way, shape, or form.
Austin St. John - the high school football coach for the Red Ranger, who tells him (right after he becomes the Red Ranger) that you're only as good as your team - if you can't trust each other and rely on each other, you'll never be able to accomplish your goals. Walter Jones - the owner of the local youth hangout (complete with a juice bar and a gym). Consoles the Black Ranger when he's having girl problems - tells him that he needs to be himself and not try to be someone he isn't - that friendships and even love are only genuine if you are who you really are, and not someone you're not. David Yost - the science teacher. Explains to the Blue Ranger the importance of never being afraid to take on new challenges, despite how difficult they may be. That real power comes from numerous places - not just muscle - and how you wield that power defines you. Karan Ashley - high school counselor. Explains to the Yellow Ranger that you don't have to be the person who can do everything - that your flaws can often times be your strength. To trust in your friends to pick you up when you fall, and to always be there to catch them if they happen to fall. Amy Jo Johnson - the coach of the cheerleaders (no one does gymnastics anymore, c'mon). Explains to the Pink Ranger that everyone has qualities that make them great and that no one should ever be bullied or belittled because of their differences. That a truly good person not only looks past peoples' flaws, but accepts them for it, and in turn can make the difference between someone being depressed and someone feeling like they belong. Johnny Yong Bosch & Steve Cardenas - the karate/martial arts instructors. They teach the Rangers throughout their training that true power is to yield rather than to escalate, to protect rather than to defeat, to use as a last resort as opposed to starting a situation. That even the smallest and weakest among us all can rise up to defeat a challenge. Jason David Frank - the grand master sensei of the karate school. Teaches the Rangers to look past what they see because perception isn't always reality, that even someone who appears to be evil can have quite a bit of good in them, and to never, EVER, give up on each other or their friends (playing back on his time in Green With Evil). I'd be okay with that. |

It would never happen, but a Zyuranger actor cameo would be cool. Just have the actor who played Geki could be a normal Japanese man running away from the action on the screen before the Power Rangers happen or have him show up in a karate school.

What if it ends up being a Star Trek-esque alternate timeline story?
