What exactly are these Makai Knights?

The main heroes of Garo.

And what exactly is that? I know its a form of Toku, but what is it about?

It's a darker, more mature toku series about the Makai Knight Garo who fights spirits called Horrors that feed off of the darkness in human souls. All of the fights are CGI, and I think he can only use his Makai Knight form for a couple minutes at a time. I can't say much more than that though, Garo isn't my realm of expertise.

Is there a website or some place that I can go to check it out or watch some episodes?

The thing is, I'm not sure how to find the first series as it's just called GARO, with no subtitle to distinguish it. Here's one of the later series, though:

I only watched about 15 minutes before I had to go do something else, but OMFG!!! I'm in love. The graphics, the film quality, this should not be a TV series. It should be a damn movie! I'm glad its TV, but the way its done, it should be a movie.

Yeah, the cinematography in Garo is gorgeous.

There are some movies, actually.

"Beast of the White Night", which is more like an extended episode of the TV series, set after the events of the first season.

There's also "Red Requiem", which is also set between the first and second season, but there's little in there that requires having seen season 1 to enjoy it, it's a fairly self-contained story.

There's also "Tougen No Fue" - a spinoff starring two female Makai Priests, and "Soukoku No Maryu" aka "GARO and the Wailing Dragon" in some places, which is a kind of finale to the second season. It's different to the stuff that came before it, in that it takes a lighter, more fantasy-based tone. I've heard some people call it "Kouga in Wonderland" which isn't too far off, really. Still insane.

The episode that 2ndSndWve posted is from a season that I actually like to recommend to newcomers as a "Jumping-on point" as at this point they decided to move away from the timeline that the first two seasons followed, jumping forwards into the future with an almost new cast (the skull-ring Zaruba being the only character that remains). The next proper live-action season of Garo, Gold Storm, will be a sequel to this one, so now would be a good time to watch it!


I love Garo. It might not be for everyone, but I recommend it to anyone looking for something different to Sentai, Kamen Rider etc.

Season 3's fights were CGI, all the other seasons barely were. You can find the episodes for the first two seasons of Facebook, on pages like Admin M or Tokusatsu Network.

As for the thread question, my Makai Knight would be an emerald green one called Athos, wielding a rapier and dagger and to transform he has to attach the pommels of both weapons together and twist around, the blade forming the summoning circle as he turns (if he feels like showing off, he can twist mid-air horizontally towards his target, transforming and having his blade ready to impale when it's complete). His madou "ring" would be a bracelet on his left hand, though I can't think of a name for it yet.

I've actually created some Makai Knights for a fan-fic I'm still writing.

REKKA the Burning Dragon Knight, a maroon and orange dragon themed knight. He utilizes a broadsword and summons the armor by striking his sword on the ground in front of him, creating the circle that rises up and he spins the sword in a circular motion to open it and release the armor.

KAGE the Black Fang Knight, a black and grey knight. He also utilizes a broadsword and summons the armor by making a crescent slash in front of him then pushing both the sword and the crescent up to open the circle and release the armor.

ZEUS the Lightning Hawk Knight, a blue and white eagle themed knight. He uses a spear and summons the armor by spinning the whole spear in a circular pattern then striking the middle of the circle.

FORGE the Iron Knight, a iron and brown knight. He utilizes a hammer and summons the armor by striking the ground with it, forming the circle that releases the armor.

SWIFT the Silent Knight, a dark/navy blue ninja themed knight. He utilizes 4 kunai that he can combine into a shuriken. He summons the armor by throwing the shuriken in the air which swerves in a circular pattern, creating the circle for the armor to be released.

REAPER the Chilling Death Knight, a black and steel knight. He utilizes a scythe and summons his armor by swing the scythe in a circular pattern.

KAKASHI the Nightmare Knight, a sickly yellow and brown scarecrow themed knight. He utilizes a halberd and summons his armor by striking the halberd on the ground and spinning it and himself in a circular pattern.

WAR the Conquest Knight, a red and black knight. He utilizes a mace and summons his armor by swinging his mace in a circular pattern then slamming it in the middle of the circle.

Another two are DUKE the Shining Knight, a white and gold knight, and TITAN the Infinity Knight, a gold and navy blue knight. DUKE uses a bowstaff/spear that becomes a trident when donning the armor, and TITAN uses a gauntlet. I'm still yet to write how they summon their armor.

couldnt REKKA be made to a figure using Zen , he kinda out of the series on figures (makai kado) looks like a dragon rather then a wolf , all he would need it more orange and a boardsword

I like that idea. It could be possible. The helmet would most likely have to be remodelled due to REKKA's helmet having more of a dragon look than a wolf. The wolf ears on the helmet are at a certain angle to make it look like dragon horns (kinda similar to the wolf ears on Giga's helmet).

I've yet to draw up the knights themselves but I have written down that their armor has their own unique designs but will be influenced by the armor designs shown in Garo:
