They utilized the sport in the film to intentionally play on World Cup hype.

Another Movie Villain for Gaim where the Lockseed doesn't fold down, just sort of appears on him. I understand it for Fifteen. But for Applejack it should've been a bit easier.

What makes you think it doesnt fold down?

The trailer is just cut so we dont see it folding down yet.

Yeah but its pretty apparent that there is a good chunk of footage missing between the fruit dropping and him standing there completely transformed.

It's obvious the trailer skips a couple seconds in the middle of the henshin, so what's the fuss?

The Gaim franchise has made it a point to never show full new transformation in previews. I don't think any trailer or preview for an episode or movie which features a new henshin has ever shown it off with Gaim. They save that for the film or episode in question.

I get that for a lot of American viewers this seems odd. But Footbal/Soccer is HUGE in the rest of the world and is particularly popular in Japan. So while this seems odd to us, it really isn't at all.

If there are two sports that toku features prominently, it's baseball and soccer.

So if this movie's whole thing is taking place in an alternate universe where the Gaim cast take part in a sport rather than dance, soccer's the easiest choice to go with due to its popularity.

I know it's one of, if not the, most popular sports in the world.
I don't see it as odd. I just see it as painfully boring :lol

I think, technically, it's their Toku and they're probably catering to their primary target audience.

Tendou and Haruto went to the court, but the refs just enacted the mercy rule almost immediately when they realized Tendou can can be faster then The Flash.

His suit is pretty cool.
