Gokaiger Adaptation? More Reports From Saban Licensing
 

This report from the ongoing licensing expo gives some unusual insight into the selection of Megaforce:


Despite a grim outlook for the Legendary Pirates, an updated report suggests more to this Sentai selection than meets the eye:

Wait... Wasn't Toei filming a Legendary War for Saban?

I personally think it was just because they thought the Pirate theme was too silly. I mean, I know we've had giant animal cars & things like that in the past but I think "Giant flying Pirate Ship" might be going overboard a bit (see what I did there?).

Hmm, that tremor I felt on my way to work must have been the massive nerd rage that this tidbit surely must have caused. It did kind of sound like a hundred thousand nerdly screams.

Well i think it makes since. I've been trying to wrap my brain around how the heck they would explain the pirate theme for a while. And while gosieger (don't know if i spelled that right) might not be the best choice for the 20th adaption there is still power Rangers 20

Honestly? I think this response is just Saban going "We're doing Goseiger right now, stop asking about Gokaiger and enjoy this for now."

Why hype up whatever's coming up after what's already coming up? Keep the hype going for your current series and the series that's coming up directly after it. We're reading too much into this.

Plundering and stealing is too hardcore? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

I know this may sound far fetched so don't toss me out a window just yet but what if Power Rangers 20 is basically Gokaiger w/o the Pirate theme? Basically keeping the retro/anniversary gimmick but instead of being Pirates it's just normal peeps who inherit a modified Mobirate that transforms the user to a Power Ranger from the last 20 years. I guess they could use footage/costumes from Gokaigers enemies into the show. Again, just a theory. Don't be alarmed.

Yeah, real pirates were pretty nasty people who did a lot of terrible things. But you know what, so were real ninjas and that didn't stop MMPR season 3 or Ninja Storm.

Oh, and how are pirates more boy-centric than Samurai? Or, for that matter, Power Rangers?

This seems like a cop out answer to me. Hopefully we'll get more solid info at future conventions.

Yup, that's probably exactly what they're doing. I'd still put money on the next adaptation being Gokaiger, I don't see why they'd have any problem with doing Pirates.

I could see them skipping it because of the amount of footage involving the past teams though. How many kids watching are going to care/know about MMPR, Zeo, or even most of the newer seasons?

Considering "Looting and plundering" would be more pirate-like actions than what happened in all of Gokaiger (The Gokaigers were pitiful pirates), I don't see where they're coming.

However, I don't see a reason why they should skip Goseiger.

Like other people have said, I think this is just their way of saying "SHUT UP AND WATCH OUR GOSEIGER ADAPTATION!".

So, ninjas, samurai, and cars shaped like animals is okay, but pirates aren't? Did Saban even WATCH Gokaiger? The Gokaiger never looted or plundered anything throughout the 51 episodes. They were rebels fighting back an evil empire from space. Kind of like the people of KO-35 were fighting off Dark Specter's forces and the United Alliance of Evil back in In Space.

Also, Power Rangers has, to the best of my memory, ALWAYS BEEN A FRANCHISE TARGETED TOWARDS BOYS. Sure, there were the Aisha and Kimberly Barbie-esque dolls from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (dear lord, I can't believe I remember those), but Power Rangers has been a boy-toy franchise. If anything, a Gokaiger adaptation would be super badass, but it seems that won't be the case.

^Exactly. Stop the blind panic. Enjoy Megaforce. And wait untill this rolls again to see what happens. How stupid would it be for them to say "Well, we have this new series coming. And all these toys to sell. But yes, we're bringing Gokai to America next! So Save your money, we have enough."

Agreed. Somehow I can't see them skipping out on Gokaiger altogether, but those reasons given are incredibly stupid.

The Gokaiger team aren't part of the Legendary war though. It could technically happen without them as part of Megaforce.

just so we're clear... Pirates of the Caribbean (from Disney) is ok, but Gokaiger is a no no. Ok, got it! :D

Not the whole 199 Super Sentai movie. The Gokaiger got their powers from the Legend War.

I don't think it's for that reason, like another member pointed out. They could be to just down play Gokaiger to get us to focus on Megaforce, or much like Overdrive and Wild Force. They want something they could have full control of without having to shoot too much additional footage.

Seeing that the Megaforce are not the Goseiger, they can still use some of the Gokaiger themes if they don't plan on using the series. Like using "drone Rangers" or their weapons in battle via "Megaforce cards".

Power Rangers 20 is simply an anniversary logo, just like this one...

The only reasons I wanted them to skip Goseiger was because they were making a big deal about doing an anniversary series for 2013, which Gokaiger was perfect for, and because thanks to Disney's assnine selves, Power Rangers is now going to be way behind the Sentai versions. I mean, the Goseiger adaptation will be starting when Gobusters ends, and if it is going to take 2 years again like they did with Samurai, it will be 2015 when they get to Gokaiger, which means there are four Sentai series ahead of Power Rangers by that time.

They could mix the pirate theme with a bit of Robin Hood and have them plundering from evil to give to the poor.

But on the other hand: If Disney wouldn't have shown the 2010 'reboot' of the original series, they would've done Samurai. So... it's a trade-off.

What's wrong with the delay?

For their target audience, that doesn't watch the original Sentai series (I'm counting the kids as the target audience, not us) it makes no difference. And waiting for the series to be fully released and done means they have more freedom/footage to choose from when editing stuff.

It just sounded like Saban knew the fanbase wants Gokaiger, so they decided to make it sounded as if Gokaiger is a series that is unadaptable, because I'm sure if they knew that even with a pirate motif they have nothing to do with "looting and plundering". I think this excuse is quite frankly, ridiculous and makes no sense, but w/e.

I fail to see the problem.
It means that they won't be locked and bound to adapt the direct next series and also means that they can greater explore characters and stories akin to In Space (Don't want to end up like Gokaiger, with almost no development).

Power Rangers fans have survived on a steady diet of blind panic and pie-in-the-sky speculation for more than a decade! That's like asking them not to breathe!

This is Saban keeping everyone "on message." Nothing in that statement says that Gokaiger will not be adapated. Just that it's not being adapted right now.

Actually, I can see Saban skipped Gokaiger altogether, not because it is too "adult" for children, but because it will save them the trouble of getting the Power Rangers alumnis back for a cameo appearance in their respective tribute episodes. Go-busters would be much easier to adapt, since it already has the "morphin" calls, and it won't require them to increase the budget for cameo appearances.

Cameos can simply be random z list actor in ranger get up Ala rpm red in the samurai crossover. On the other under if someone is willing and available then they can appear sans costume. Not a big deal.

Let's face it, it wouldn't be unheard of for them to not port a series.... Dai ranger, kakuranger...

As for the whole legend war thing, what's wrong with it being used for power rangers 20?

And Goseiger could work as a perfect homage to MMPR. Giant head that's in charge like zordon? Check! Little robot helper like alpha? Check! Same colours with a possible sixth green that can be upgraded to a lion/tiger ranger? Check! Heck the second set of bad guys come out of a thing remarkably similar to Rita's capsule. And I'm sure they use a mech to bridge a gap in a road/railway ala a Power Rangers movie.

Just wanted to give my two cents, I'll hand the job of goseiger defence back to Sentai =p

As stated in the source article of the news story, Power Rangers 20 is not a new series, nor a TV Show. It's just the name of the celebration.

Except that they did port Dairanger and Kakuranger. They ported the monsters and Zord footage from Dairanger for season 2, and they ported the Kakuranger suits, the monsters, villains, and Zord footage from Kakuranger for season 3.

I should have explained myself better, although thinking about it, whatever I say is wrong =p That and i dont know enough about the japanese counterparts to say they drastically differ. I was going to say how they never really ported the suits/teams, but kakuranger's were used for alien ranger...

Basically, until I started following sentai/reading up on it, I would never have thought MMPR would have combined 3 different series, I thought there was just a lot of mecha =p dinosaur to dragon made sense in my kid mind.

I guess I'm trying to say they could just pull a season 2 =]
