Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Creative Team Revealed
This is confirmed.
All we've seen for weeks is movie sites giving credit to stories from other movie sites. This is the first time we've seen a report come out that claims to be exclusive and doesn't revolve around casting rumors and that horrible writer that was linked to the project simply because he tweeted he'd do it. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...lists-x-718684 |
The article is legit. Confirmed by Saban Brands and the Power Force.
|
If this is true, itll be cool. I hope its true.
|
Yeesh, is there any project moving forward in Hollywood that doesn't have some connection to Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, or Damon Lindelof?

Orci's Star Trek work is commendable. Made me like an outdated franchise again. Though therumors of him directing the 3rd installment does not excite me.
But this creative team has the momentum and talent behind it to make a pretty fun great film. But theres just as much that could work against it and turn this into one big train wreck. |
It will be interesting to see what they do with power Rangers, I hope the action is more intense.
|
This is crazy. I am speechless.
|
Well at least we know the writers can do teenagers with attitude well. First class was full of them.
Hell , let's cast Lucas Till ( Havok ) as Jason. I like that guy. |
I... have hope. How did that happen?!
|
Orci's work is hit or miss. I really liked Transformers Prime though. and "First Class" was superb; think that style would translate well to a team of Rangers.
Frankly I have more faith in the Movie team than the Saban team right now. |
Oh man, this is exciting.
|
Not really thrilled about Orci, but the First Class writers is pretty great news. I just hope they can stay true to the original characters.
|
Orci nails "first movies". Seeing as this would be the "first movie" in what they hope would be a movie franchise, I'm actually excited.
|
I´m curious to see how this will turn out since Orci is just the executive producer. he is not writing it and doesnt have Kurtzman with him.
I liked First Class alot so I´m fine with the writers that got chosen. |
Executive Producers normally have their fingers in the scripts and these folks are all experienced with taking cherished characters and bringing them to modern audiences. I have HOPE.
Now let's see who the director is. |
I think Orci has potential to do a pretty decent job. Some of the other stuff he's contributed on (lookin' at you, Fringe) has turned out pretty dang awesome. Regardless of what you think about his movies, it's nice to see a 'big' name and credible writers attached to this project. It'll almost make up for all of the 'unknowns' they'll cast as the rangers. :lol

Oh I know but with him not writing the usual way a Orci/Kurtzman script would look like isnt present here. I have nothing against him bringing in some of his ideas :) |
The producer and the writers give me hope that this could be decent. I hope we get a director soon.
|
Roberto Orci?
I had little hope for this movie already, but having him involved destroys the rest of that hope for me. |

I like it! Three credible names connected to the Power Rangers movie has made me optimistic that this is going to be good.
|
Wow. They got some good names workin on this. I am hopeful.
|
Sure makes it seem like they're gonna give it a serious attempt.. but then Saban will probably be like "no! do it cheaper!"
|
I doubt Saban will likely won't have much to do with the movie. They will likely be too busy on the PR TV shows instead.
|
I'm mostly indifferent to Orci's work, but I really liked First Class so it's great to see those writers involved. This all sounds good to me so far!
|
Great news! Orci is a pretty capable guy.

First Star Trek, now Power Rangers. It's like Bob Orci is targeting me personally.
This man is a menace. He doesn't understand the most basic storytelling tenets. He is known for being a Hollywood yes-man and a studio executive stooge--I'm not exaggerating when I say his reputation in Hollywood is that he never turns down a studio note. As such, he has never written or produced a remotely good movie (let alone a faithful adaptation), even by accident. Seriously, look at his IMDB--it's a wasteland. Star Trek is as close as it gets, but those movies have tremendous structural problems--the enjoyment factor comes purely from JJ Abrams and his candy-colored, blockbuster remix of the original series' style (and the casting). And this is all before factoring in his status as a prominent, looney toons, "9/11 Was An Inside Job," truther. He literally believes there are weaponized blackhawk helicopters hiding inside the UN building, waiting to take over the US by force. He's a capital N-U-T nut. All hopes for an intelligent, coherent, or fun adaptation of the material is lost. Get ready for a boatload of idiocy, everyone. But really, what else did we expect from Saban Entertainment? Quote:

People should wait before saying the movie is doom. People thought Godzilla 2014 was going to suck, but it end up getting better reviews and a opening weekend then people thought it would.

A lot of die hard Trekkies are really upset about what they perceive as a "dumbing down" of Star Trek into big, mindless action flicks instead of thought-provoking character drama. Orci seems to get most of the blame for this, something that he didn't help by going into an expletive-laden rant in response to a critical blog post. |

And those TV shows you mention? Orci and Kurtzman aren't involved in the storytelling, at least not on a daily basis. Their names were attached to each of those show's pilots as producers... so other creators could get their series picked up in a system that favors those with previous credits, regardless of quality. It's standard operating procedure in the TV biz. Make no mistake: The assembly of 5-12 writers on each of those TV writing staffs were responsible for those shows being good-- in spite of Bob Orci's tangential involvement. |

So what does this mean for the "MMPR" film with Lord Zedd the child murderer?
|
^ The whole thing seems to have gone dark. Not a single post since June.

Will it suck? Probably. Will butthurt fanboys go insane criticising the film? Definitely. I hope we can agree on one point, as long as Damon Lindeloff isn't involved there is hope. If he in any way goes near that script I'm out immediately. |
As much as I want to give it the benefit of the doubt a part of me says I would rather be better off watching a live action Turbo Teen written produced and directed by Joss Whedon.

as long as Michael Bay stays out of the picture as director I think this has real promise!
