Kamen Rider Gaim Episode 38: "Return of the Professor" Discussion
Mai asks Kouta about his plans for the future Science Lemon! The Return of Kamen Rider Duke! Micchy comes to take Mai away! He'll have to get through Kouta and Kaito to do it though! Takatora! But is he alive or simply haunting Micchy? As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams are at 7:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Wait, so Takatora IS alive?!
It's official; Takatora = Superman |
I love spoilers before I see an episode.

DAMMIT, I NEED ANSWERS! |
I'm in the Takatora is a hallucination camp.
|
We don't know his fate 100%. Changed the description. Sorry for the panic.

Wonder when Redyue is going to put Ryouma in his place, maybe in this very episode (two ridiculously smart adult character who manipulate all those around them for their own benefit? Ain't enough space in one show for the both of them, one's going to have to off the other). |

it is a hallucination but if takatora gets no flowers on the site after this episode, it means he's still alive, it will be his last episode appearance if he does |
Laughed when they revealed Ryoma's prescence in the cold opening :lol. They used the dramatic reveal sound effect, but I couldn't take it seriously with him in those shorts :lolol
|
Micchy is OP, pls nerf.
|
How in the FUCK did he get that strong?!! No seriously, this show has been rather decent with giving an idea on how power levels work, so what the fuck was all of that just a moment ago?!!

Mitchy wrecking Jimber Lemon, the undefeated Kachidoki Arms (His defeat against Demushu wasn't 1v1, so it doesn't count), and Kiwami Arms w/ Lemon Energy Arms Baron? Nonsense Plot armor, again.
But we had a Jimber Lemon mopping the floor against Duke and is evenly matched or possibly stronger than Duke. Logic. |
I think the implications of all this are clear:
The False Melon is now The One Melon. It's a Highlander thing. |

oh god lol
but seriously I think takatora is still alive. I think he's badass enough to survive death twice (I mean patrick coulasour did it why can't he?) and that I think its weird to just kill him off the same episode he got meet kouta again. |
I loved watching Orange descend from above like that. That kicked ass.

Despite the episode not being bad, I feel like they've dragged out things for way too long. Ever since Kiwami's debut, none of the episodes have done anything truly special. This episode was pretty much a reiteration of Kaito, Mai, and Kouta's interactions since episode 33.
Despite last week being total filler, this episode didn't really feel like it moved anything forward either. But, there were good scenes. Great to see Duke again, loved the camera angle when Gaim transformed the first time, at least Peco TRIED to do something this episode, and Mitchi's breakdown at his hallucination was well-acted. But that ending fight was BS. |
On a scale of 1 to Arkham City Mad Hatter, how creepy do you guys find Micchy's laugh?
|
I think the Melon Energy Lockseed is somehow reacting to Micchy's insanity. He's become unhinged, he's not holding anything back, he's out of control, and the power is flourishing.
I'm sure it will be explained at some point, as they've already hinted at something happening with Kouta because of his Lockseed. |

Also, I think the bleakest moment of this episode was when Kouta says "The day will come when we're all together" and though Kaito takes the opportunity to stab at Mitchi's betrayal, it's him that's probably not going to make it. When he looks at that scar before joining his comrades in a walk to the sunset, it really makes me feel like something bad is going to happen to Kaito. |

Regardless, only the immature fruit changes people (into Invess). There have been no instances of the Lockseeds changing people minus Kiwami, so having that being the reason for Mitchi's power boost would be really contrived. |
I feel the problem with power levels fluctuating according to plot is because there aren't enough powerful entities in the character lineup to serve as gatekeepers to the final boss. Kiwami is obviously powerful enough to down any Overlord, even the supposedly stronger Gurinsha. That means aside from a godlike Roshuo, if the Queen doesn't do any fighting herself, the story is left to using existing villainous folk to provide obstacles for the hero. Which is why Micchy has to move up the power scale and occupy such a role... Unless all the Overlords get a humongous power boost, or the writers come up with something else more ingenious.
|
Anyway... I think the pacing of the show had better speed up. Things seem to be slowing down and we don't seem to be moving towards resolving major plot threads.
If there's no episode cut, then we have about 10 more to go. I hope they don't push the last lap into just 3 or 4 episodes. Urobutcher, I'm you have better pacing skill than that! |
Honestly didn't expect Mitcchi to go full on MacBeth. I mean it's not like Takatora is BanQuo or anything right now. Nope.
My theory: Both Mitcchi and Kouta are becoming this worlds versions of Overlords. Mitcchi now has nothing to really hold him back so he's going straight down to Sour Grapes land. With Takatora out of the picture and our theory about how Melon is actually evil fruit, it makes some sense that Mitcchi just took a major step towards the dark fruit side. |

Also, while he has tons of plot armour and steroids in this ep, I think we can attribute his immense power boost to his utter insanity. Having no mercy does increase one's aggression in a fight, and that includes the ability to take hits. |

Well played. |

You guys gotta remember that Kouta was holding way back, due to him still being hesitant to fight Miichi in the first place. I'm sure that attributed to how serious he was into the fight as well.
That's the only explanation I can think of as to why Miichi won that fight…other than that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsMSiVn6vpQ |
Micchy probably just had an adrenaline rush moment, coupled by his growing insanity and willingness to go all out, is what allowed him to handle Kouta and Kaito. Plus, you saw the difference Kouta had when he fought Micchy when he found out Zangetsu Shin wasn't Takatora. He would've beaten him back then had Micchy not thrown Duduonshu (whatever his name was) in the way of the blast.
|
As much as I enjoyed watching this episode I do have some issues. Ryouma felt like a side thing they stuffed in (probably for next week) and I can see why people are impatient with waiting for Kouta to just end Micchy (I'm getting there myself). Hopefully Micchy will die a painful death sooner than later. Was great seeing Takatora again, even though he was just a twisted figment of Micchy's broken psyche. I have a feeling that's over with now though. Does anyone know if the actor's gotten his bouquet of doom yet?
Also, apologies for the opening post. I thought it would be ok given it was in the preview. |
And speaking of the human Overlords.....
http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...0at90342PM.png I believe we need an 'Oh Ffuu...' here. |
And Kaito does what I figured he would - explain Micchy's sudden badass fighting capabilities.
"He's no longer the same person. The fear and hesitation from before are gone. He has crossed a line that he can never come back from." |
Subs are up

Looks like Mitsuzane has gone full out Asakura. I love it.

Kouta was holding back and Micchy wasn't, no matter how strong Kiwami is, it doesn't have an unbreakable defense, it could be still damaged using Energy arms.
After killing Takatora he became stronger, but he had to trade his sanity for it, I guess that's a fair trade for strength. Although I wonder if Micchy is truly going to become a berserker or is it just a momentary thing. This episode just shows how the main 3 riders are becoming monsters in different sort of ways. It's pretty damn great. |
