Kamen Rider Gaim Episode 39 "The Make-Or-Break Tower Infiltration Plan" Discussion
An alliance is formed with Duke! Oren leads the charge with a truck! But can Ryouma be trusted on this mission? What are Micchy's plans for Mai? And can Kouta save her? As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams are at 7:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Micchy, pls. Just lose Mai already.

Anyways, I'm just gonna say this right now, if Ryoma doesn't betray Kota and the others, I'll be very surprised. |

Do we have another option? Because all they are showing now are reruns (we will not speak of what was streaming earlier, and leave it at that).

I used NijiTV to watch it. Simply make an account, log in, and watch TV Asahi's channel.
We see Knuckle Suika Arms! Also we get to see Kouta, using Gaim Kiwami Arm' Arms Weapon Summoning in a similar fashion to Gilgamesh's Gates of Babylon or Shirou's Mass Trace On attacks. Next Episode Preview: Kouta's eyes start to glow red, he sees Yuuya, and his right arms turns into something similar to an Inves. Yuuya also happens to have the Orange Lockseed. Oh no. |
|
Man, Duke is one hell of a fighter! (maybe it's because he invented the rider system and know all his tricks, but still...)
|
In before Oren and Junoichi end up dead
|
FYI folks pray for rain on August 10th if you dont want two Gaimless weeks. Brcause if it is sunny on August 10, they will have a Koushien baseball game.
|
Ryoma scanning Kiwami Arms tell me that he is going to create the lock seed that Micchi uses to become evil-Kiwi.
|
Next episode's gonna be a goddamn ride.
|
This ep has the classic trope of hero's party stops at crucial points to fight obstacle baddies while he moves on to face the boss.
According to the recent scans we've seen, it looks like the tower will form the setting for a majority of the show's final lap. |
Oh man, this episode just hit all of my buttons. As always, I love seeing all of the remaining non-douchebag Riders working together. After so many months of them being at odds over so many different things, having all of them on the same side is so great. And on top of that we have the "you guys go on ahead while we stay behind to deal with this threat" plot. I am a huge sucker for that trope. This episode was a lot of set-up, but I'm really excited to see it all pay off.
Also, Ryouma is one of the most entertaining characters to watch. He had some fantastic facial expressions this week. Especially when he was watching Kouta fight. |
Couple of things:
- Ryoma really stood out to me in this episode. I think it really emphasized how much of a total nutjob he actually is, especially when he laughs in glee realizing how he's pretty much indirectly responsible for everything and just acts like a total insensitive ass this episode :lol - As everyone has already stated, the trope of team members staying behind one by one until we're left with the hero is pretty cool. - Really loving how well Oren fits in with the rest of the riders. He's kinda become the big guy, muscle of the group. The team dynamic as a whole is pretty fun. You've got the leader Kouta, second-in-command Kaito, nerdy Jonouchi, Oren as the team's muscle, Yoko as the badass fighter gal, and Zack as the cool guy that everybody likes. - Jonouchi himself has become such a likable character in my eyes, and I'm glad that I finally did come around to ordering the figuart. I really can't point my finger on it, but he's becoming one of my favorite Riders on the show. - As for story developments, yeeeeeeeah....am I the only one who thought Kouta was looking mighty Eiji-esque in the previews? I feel like it's only going to be a dream sequence, but really, I can't be quite sure. - Ghost Takatora is such a troll. - Mitsuzane will probably be my favorite Rider villain when this series is said and done, surpassing Ouja for me. His fall is being handled incredibly well and it would take quite the fuck-up to ruin that for me. - Side note that doesn't really pertain to this episode: does Kouta have access to Mars and Kamuro's weapons? Would that mean that the silver and gold lockseeds exist in the main timeline? |
I just love how Ryoma is just as insane as Mr Hellgrape, yet is fully aware of it. He's completely out of his damned mind, but he conveys his insanity in a comedic way and it works so well. I was hoping that Takatora would come back to put him down, but I doubt that'll ever happen.

BOOM! Thank you, Gaim. You let me down the last three weeks but this week was back on track.
Awesome episode - great dialogue, break-neck pacing and some awesome scenes. I cheered when Kaito punched Ryoma in the face. And I won't lie, Gridon and Bravo were pretty heroic! |
Now this episode was pretty Brave.
Can someone answer me why the damsel in distress always has to show up in a white dress with heels? Seriously, she's in the forest of Helheim, and she's wearing heels. *facepalm I think we should also change the name of "Talkin Toku" to "Ryouma's Shorts". Okay enough puns. I didn't like this episode that much. Why? Because it feels like filler. If all they were going to do was turn Kouta into an orange Mario, then what was the point of creating all this tension? Seriously, it went from a Gaim version of the Expendables into a Power Rangers troupe real fast. What do I mean by that? Okay, so we know that Mitsuzane has Mai. Fine, she's now a new resident at the hotel Helheim. And so now Kouta has to save her. No mention of his sister, his friends, anyone else that's hooked up to the sucky sucky machine. Then we slowly lose in the tried and true method of each person stays to allow the next people to go through to the next stage. I will admit there was a lot of great action there. Water Chestnuts for the win. But really it's more about allowing Ryouma to scheme and plot and twirl his mustache for another pointless reason, and Kouta is again left at the end running. Things that still need to be resolved in around 11 episodes or less: Getting your friends and your sister freed. Getting Mai back. Defeating Redyue Defeating Mituzane and his grapes of wrath. Defeating Rosyuo Defeating Ryouma Completely sealing Helheim off from the Earth. Finding your scrot and coming to terms with people being jerks. That's a pretty long list to accomplish. I just don't think all these are going to be done by the end, or worse, we're gonna get Bladed. |
You know what would be a great twist? If Ryouma didn't turn on them and get defeated in the show. If Kouta or whoever gets the golden fruit, Ryouma's just like "Oh well" and helps them save the world. Because he has SCIENCE! to do and well equipped labs are hard to come by in the Helheim forest. He then waltzes off into the sunset to be the cause of trouble in the Gaim half of this years movie wars.

This show really feels like it's running out of steam. Ryoma rivals Kaito in the pain he brings with his performance, though I'd still say Kaito "wins" by just seeming utterly half-asleep. The story just feels drawn out. The entire episode was just them "breaking in" to Yggdrasil, and by breaking in I mean entering through the back door. Overall it feels every week has less happen, and it especially sucks since the show had been ramping up and ramping up to this big thing... and there's still no big thing.
Also, may favourite part of Gaim was how they treated the powers, but so much for that. No form seems to have any deffinative uses so much as just being on a power scale. It's not like how before there were strengths and weaknesses, now it's just "Did orange, now I'll do Kachidoki. Oop, Kachidoki's time is up, Kiwami now-" The powers don't feel at all special anymore. Kachidoki now literally gets tossed around. So much for being nearly indestructable. I especially laughed at Ryouma's boast at what a tuned-up Genesis Driver can do, mostly because Kachidoki and Kiwami are both still leagues ahead, and the "tune-up" consisted of very basic trick and no real indication of any kind of power boost. The MOW's now fly by so fast and have so little significance we barely even see them anymore. I think this week's was some kind of turtle. Basically the show wants to tell its story, but doesn't want to give details about anything that actually happens. Yet it still stretches it out because there's 22 minutes to fill. How did Gaim go from feeling like it's stuffed every episode, to feeling like there's barely anything there? I can feel the events of the episode leaving my brain even now. It's just fluff, but it's not really, because the episode still took us to a differnet place than we were, but it was so utterly standard that I felt my eyes glazing over. I wish I could say more, but there isn't anything else that happened for me to mention except sweet plan Redyue, send a single Randy to fight the guy who's killed every other Overlord. Oh, and Micchy is just completely not even interesting now that he's just a crazy person. Halucinating his dead brother like so many cliches do. It's so, so tired and embarrassingly typical, and a depressing turn for what used to be an interesting character. |

See, this is where I totally agree. If this were a video game, it would be Donkey Kong. Which is boring after level 3. Quote:
Unfortunately, this is the eventual curse of all SHT shows. Granted, I don't expect Gaim to start going all Kyoryuger Carnival on the powers, but it gets to the point where there is no sense in going from Orange Arms to Kiwami Arms, other than toy sales. Ryouma is the unfortunate Wile E Coyote of the show, scored into the same pocket as Bravo. Adults that are treated more like cartoon characters. Quote:

in the scans it says sagara gives micchi the lockseed im guessing it's created by ryoma or another fruit |

Loved Ryouma in this episode. He's such a fun character to watch and I like how he made upgrades to his own belt. Next episode looks really good.

The weeks where Tv Asahi doesnt air SHT in favor of sports and other special events are there every year. Usually even around the same time. And Gaim doesnt even have a low episode count. If Drive really starts the first sunday of october Gaim will end with 48 episides. Thats pretty much a standard episode count for recent Shows :) |
You know what bugs me? Cliffhangers everywhere and no episode for my birthday next sunday! :(
|
The way Gaim used all those weapons at once really reminded me of a Funnel attack from Gundam, and the hammer coming down at the end was hilarious.:lol
Also loved how much of a delightful prick Rymoa was. |

http://37.media.tumblr.com/17fb435ea...79zo1_1280.jpg Like Gaim channeling the power of Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon. Just instead of Babylon, it's Helheim. |
I do like how even though their differences have been set aside, Kouta still reffers to Oren as that "Charmant Guy"
|
I knew it! Micchy does not show regret when he see his former friend, Rat and Rica get their energy suck out of them.
I agree with Micchy's actor, During interview with Mahiro Takasugi, He says he doesn't want Micchy to turn good as he did something that cannot forgiven I feel Micchy should stay as villain he possibly dies in bad way Kouta and Mai are so naivé about their hope for Micchy. Guy! He's insane! But now you will lose hope once he got hand on Yomotsu Heguri Arm Possibly Ryoma made a lockseed due for collecting data of Kouta's Kiwami arm and give to DJ Sagara to hand Micchy his ultimate lockseed to make him stronger than ever |
Micchy deserves to get skullfucked by the DJ Gun's Taiken Mode more and more with each new episode.
The bastard needs a harsh and painful death. |

This episode was kind of meh. I'm looking forward to the cliffhanger, but I know how Gaim operates, and everything interesting in the cliffhanger was in this episode will occur in the last 5 minutes and lead to another semi-interesting cliffhanger until it ends.
