Intro to Sentai
 

I've been thinking about getting into Sentai for a bit now and I'm not super sure where to start, figured this might be the place to get some answers. My current tokusatsu experience is a couple Kamen Rider series (Agito, Kabuto and most of Ryuki) and a bunch of Power Rangers back in the day, so I have a decent idea of what to expect but I need help figuring out which are the good and bad in the series. Id like to find something that's a good balance of serious story and fun/cool shenanigans but I'll settle for something that someone says is the best starter.


TL:DR what's good?

I would say based on what you'd like to find, maybe a show like Dairanger, Kakuranger, Megaranger, and Go-Busters could be a good start. They can be serious quite a bit at times (especially Dai) but are also able to produce a lot of light hearted and comedic moments.

Some nice starting series are Zyuranger, Megaranger, Dekaranger, Gekiranger, or Kyoryuger.
The best way to get into a show is to find a Sentai that looks appealing and to hop right in, though.

Tensou Sentai Goseiger. Good story, better characters, and one of the single best villains ever to grace a Sentai. Bureduran No Comet.

I think if you want to go with something newer, Gekiranger or SHinkenger is a great place to start. But I think all recent series have their great points and are all easy to get into.

Try Dekaranger. You'll love it.

Yeah, Deka was my gateway drug into Super Sentai and what convinced me to see it was watching Dekamaster's debut scene on Youtube.

Depends, I've given up on SS long ago though the one that got me into the whole thing was Shinken.

Thanks a bunch folks, I think I'll go for Dekaranger, was kinda leaning toward it or Abaranger anyways so it made the decision way easier

Abaranger is a great choice, but just wait a bit. Myself and the rest of Imagination Station are currently subbing it and will be done soon. Up to episode 36 have been released publicly.

I started with Zyuranger, for the MMPR nostalgia, but I wouldn't really say it's the best place to start, but i'm not going to go into why (not worth the explanation). Just find one where the team and mecha looks cool and watch it, i'd say. I personally like the older shows a bit more, since I don't care for all the CGI in the newer ones.

errr...okay, I guess you picked Dekaranger. Nevermind then lol

Deka's a solid choice, and it's easily my favourite, though the CGI effects have not aged very graciously. [:

I found that the cast was very likeable, and the ending was pretty satisfactory, which is where I find that a lot of Sentai series tend to drop the ball at.

Zyuranger and dairanger were also considered but for zyu I'll wait for that official release if anything comes of that, and since abarangers not subbed I'll probably go Dairanger afterwards. Get a taste of the old and new

i like dairanger -= i wish saban use 5 main dairangers suits with white ranger

Imho, Dairanger is not that good, so I'd suggest to start with a better season of that time (meaning either Zyuranger or Jetman) or go with something newer, like pretty much everything from Deka onwards (except for Boukenger, because that's one of the weaker new seasons)

Here is my suggestion:

1. Start with Zyuranger.

2. Watch the sentai shows from the final decade of the 20th century from Fiveman to Timeranger LIKE A BOSS.

3. Then watch these in no particular order:
Hurricanger
Dekaranger
Magiranger
Gekiranger
Go-onger
Shinkenger
Gokaiger
Go-busters
Kyoryuger
ToQger

4. Then if you still hungry for some older stuff, watch some Flashman, Liveman, and Turboranger

5. Wow, you are this far? Watch Goranger, Denjiman, Sunvulcan, and Dynaman
