The "Design a Character" Tokunation Contest
 

Hey Tokusatsu fans!

As you undoubtedly know, there's over 200 Super Sentai and over 50 Kamen Rider characters simply in two variations of Tokusatsu. Include all the other smaller, lesser-known (older) series (Ultraman, Metal Heroes, Gavin, etc.), as well as American-only Tokusatsu (Tattooed Teenagers from Beverly Hills, TMNT: Next Mutation, etc.) ... that's a lot of different characters!

On our logo, we like to put current and/or popular Tokusatsu characters ... right now we're featuring the "new" theme - so we have Stag and Beet Buster Rangers, Kamen Rider Fourze Cosmic States, Kamen Rider Meteor Storm, and Akibaranger Red! The joy of having a picture that you can change out no-hassel is we can feature anything and anyone we want to! And what we want to do is feature something YOU create!

TokuNation.com wants you to create your own Tokusatsu character! Draw, re-color, photoshop, whatever, your own Tokusatsu character and the staff will vote on which character we feature on our logo! The contest runs until Monday, July 9th at 11:59pm EST. The rules are simple!

• Your entry must be original. Do not find another Fan-art character and claim it as your own
• You can enter as many entries as you wish
• You can use any form of photo/image editting software
• Entry can be 2D drawn artwork, 3D artwork, photoshop of existing characters. NO PIXEL SPRITE ENTRIES PLEASE.

Well, here's my first Idea, Toku-Chan! A girl who uses the powers of different Toku. Her main features come from Fourze, RedBuster and AkibaYellow. Hope you like! (One purpose for her is if Tokunation ever does an April Fools day thing, she could be featured as the only image on the page :lolol)

Okey dokey, here's my submission!

Not quite sure what to call him, but the name I've got for right now is "TokuPatriot"

His giant hammer turns into a large cannon. The sides fold down, and the bottom portion of the handle unplugs from the top portion/main barrel and plugs into the bottom of where the scope is to form the handle of the cannon.

He also has a small firearm which charges by pulling up the back portion of the gun, making it also look like a "T"

So, "T's" everywhere! Enjoy!

I like Repair Bays right now because we seem to be on the same page about the "T" thing. But perhaps it could be coloured to fit the websites colour scheme of Green, Gold & Grey.

Times like this it makes me wish I could draw:cry

Here are my TokuMan early sketches. I tried to incorporate Sentai, Kamenrider and Godzilla together. I tried to have the "T" from the logo be in the face of the mask and tried to make it part of the belt and also have the belt resemble King Ranger's belt as well. If you like I'll continue with this idea and refine it some more.

I don't know how I feel about the animal head on his chest, I mean, I see what you're going for, incorporating a little bit of kaijin into the design, but I don't know. To me It just kinda messes with the 'superhero' design.

Thanks for the feedback! I liked the idea I was shooting for but wasn't happy with the execution either. I'll make some tweaks and play with the design more. I had an alternate way I thought of during dinner I'll sketch up tonight. I really appreciate your thoughts! :)

Lol! Yeah it totally was! :D No worries, I'm gonna play with the design some more and it's not necessarily going away I just need to sketch it where it looks right. I drew these sketches at work today and now that I'm home and my kids are snoozing it's sketch time! I may draw up a normal and a super version of TokuMan ;) That was the idea I thought of during dinner when trying to think of how I could change it up a bit and keep elements of this design and still try different things.

What if you made it less realistic, and more mecha-animal? Might come out easier.

Great idea! More like Kiryu from Godzilla X Mechagodzilla? Or perhaps even simpler? I'll play with that idea some and post the results ;)

I do like how this came out and will use this for Super TokuMan. I still have an idea for a version without the armor too :)

The animal head is cool, but I still think I like the normal version better. Perhaps you could work that into a different design, like, "TokuMan & his pet Kaiju" or something.

I'm glad you like the normal version. :) Yeah that's a great idea too. I know I won't be able to get everything in the character i want without compromising the aesthetics. Perhaps I can even work it into his Zord or Megazord design as well. DragonZord was very Godzilla-ish after all. :D Or maybe I'll draw him up a RiderBiker that has that style. So many ways to go so little time ;)

Oooh, the suspense is killing me :D with only 3 people who participated, who will become Tokunation's mascot? Repair Bay's TokuPatriot? botmarley's TokuMan? Or my own The Nation? Can't wait to find out!

Why not do a team of 3? Have each of them stand for something different that the site is all about? Because I'm not sure which of the 3 I like best >_<
