Original shows
Saban will someday make original shows ?
|
No. Almost definitely no.

They already did, in the 90's. Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog. It was decent, but cost to much to make and it's budget for season 2 went to Lost Galaxy.
Nowadays, heck no. |
Does cartoon shows count

Never say never when it comes to TV.

In any case they haven't shown any interest in creating an entirely original toku show of their own since Mysitc Knights was cancelled to throw that budget at Power Rangers. And seeing as Power Rangers is clearly produced on the dirt cheap side of things even now, there's no way they'll go back to simultaneously making another original show too. So it's a moot point. |
I didn't know Saban made Mystic Knights. One look at the title screen confirms that, yeah, he totally does, but I don't remember :lol
Anyway, I doubt Saban would create another toku series again. It's just too easy to make Saban's "Saban's Power Rangers" by Saban, I guess. |
I really cant imagine another toku show here in the states unless some one calls it a power ranger knock off.

It's really easy for us to sit here & wish & hope that they will, but they most likely won't for the reasons everyone else said. They won't even make things out of already-made footage so I doubt they'll make things up on their own. And I know this is about original shows, but I kinda wanna bring these points up to relate to the topic. Atleast I think they relate. Sorry if they actually don't. ^^;
Normally I'd say "I don't get is why doesn't he just keep PR the way it is & release another Toku (preferably KR) as a movie series? Like the first KR movie is the American Adaptation of Double; the origin story, characters, everything you need to tell an original 100-120 min story. During that movie leave hints to a future Accel movie that'll be done 3-5 years later. After that have the third movie be a crossover between the two with a cameo for OOO. Basically Marvel your way to making movies every few years like the yearly Rider movies already do." However, aside from the PR curse other Toku has to face, there are issues with this idea. The CGI of the usable footage is something common moviegoers would never get over, deeming it laughable. The only way to circumvent this would be to make all new footage with a good enough budget, which will never happen because KRDK couldn't even get a good enough TV budget. Plus KR has lots of difficult-to-use footage since lots of the live Japanese actresses & actors appear near the suits during the series. That would take a certain amount of editing to deal with. No one out there would even think about giving Toku franchises not named "Power Rangers" (which most don't even know is part of a wide genre) a good amount of cash to make a movie out of. Would Lionsgate have signed on with Saban to make a VR Troopers movie? I doubt it. So yeah, we all know it won't happen because Saban, Bandai &/or Toei apparently think that older, unsuccessful shows should never be given another chance to be handled the right way. I mean the only reason KRDK was made was because PR was clinically dead on giving new shows. And not only did KRDK not do well enough, PR was back shortly there after plus they were gonna be released here as toyline-exclusives regardless. What gets me is the attention Kikaider & Ultraman are getting semi-recently. I know it's in limited ways but geez; those shows? Really??? I've got nothing against them or anything. I just feel that it's be easier to bring in shows that are a little more popular like KR. Anyway I hope I didn't ramble too much. All in all I feel that if they won't make anything with existing material they definitely won't create their own. They hardly ever do that for their precious PR, which even then gets halfassed quite often. Hope this made sense. XD |

I think I have a better idea of what you mean with Kikaider, but all of that is targeted to Hawaii specifically, from a small Hawaiian company that skews to the Hawaiian market, which got Kikaider (and Inazuman and V3, among other toku series) back in the 70s and has a lot of nostalgia on which to capitalize. It's not like we're getting the Figuarts here or anything crazy like that. |
Yeah, that's what I meant by 'limited'. Sorry if I wasn't clear. XD

If Saban did their own original show that is not a adaptation then would it really be a Tokusatsu? I feel like American Toku are shows or movies that are adaptions or remakes of the original Japanese shows or movie. Power Rangers, Dragon Knight, Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad and any of the other Saban adaptions can be view as American Toku because they are adaptions of Japanese shows.
|
Well mystic Knights is consider an American tokusatsu due to it follows the toku fomular if it follows the fomular I would consider it a toku

As in, very Toku. :lol |
They should take a long gone toku series like Gransazer and do their own spin on it.
