Kamen Rider Drive Episode 4 "What Does the Proud Hunter Want?" Discussion
What does Machine Chaser want with Drive!? The paintings are missing! Where have they gone? Can the police get any information out of Asaya Kazhiro? Will Kiriko be able to help Drive? As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams are at 7:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Can't wait for some Machine Chaser-Action, I have high expectations for this guy.

Just for reference, the SuperHeroTime programming block is pre-empted next week. Shows will resume in on November 8th!

Another solid episode in my opinion. Continuing to enjoy this show. Pre-subs I very much enjoyed Machine Chaser and his fighting style, and Drive's sword is fantastic. Ready to hear the discussions had this episode, especially what the Roidmudes were saying.
|
This show would be a lot more tolerable if they stopped doing car puns and stuff related to them. Degrades the show's quality quite heavily. I'm trying to enjoy Drive, but all of my friends are turned off by it because of those puns and the fact that half of the Tire Koukans are literally just the same with a slight twist?

It's not like there are car puns every 2 minutes or so... at least I don’t remember them in a negative way. And how are the Tire Koukans "literally just the same with a slight twist"? Every shift car has its own unique ability. If you would name some examples it would be a lot easier for us to understand why you can't enjoy the show. |
Same here. I dont really get where you are getting all the car puns from. Are you referring to the Weapons saying stuff like Full Throttle and U-Turn? If you do why all of a sudden is it in Drive a bad thing but the Drivers in Gaim screaming Orange Au Lait is completely alright? And I fyou just mean the parts with starting up the enigne and Shinnosuke getting in gear than there are not nearly as many as you make them out to be.
And the thing with the Tires is what I completely dont get. They look all very different from one another. |
No puns, how can you have no puns when the guy has a giant tire strapped to his chest. This is a light hearted series and it just has fun with the concept it's been given.
I have to admit to an extent I used to agree with the whole tire powers being all the same but that was when all I saw were scans and thought they were all kiwi arms. Their powers are all really quite unique, freaking taxi being a portal power was just clever. |

Great episode, really loving Drive so far, but I couldn't help but think of something..
What if Vegas and Dimension Cab's relationship was foreshadowing Akira's future? Cuz Cab was "taken off duty" and disabled just like him then ended up coming back thanks to some new power.. What I'm getting at is, what if Akira is destined to become Mach? Iunno, just a thought I had haha. |
The tradition for nearly all shows since Den-O is the secondary rider is a new character introduced at a later time. Zeronos, Diend, Accel, Birth, Meteor, Beast. But it would be really nice to see Drive buck that trend at least. That's a good theory.
Otherwise like I said yesterday this was a good episode. I believe we can expect that Rika is sort of like Shroud for Drive. Creating tech unbeknownst to him, but less douchey than Shroud too. The Handle Sword really does rock and it's clear that Belt plans to have more upgrades and features created for Drive & probably Mach in the future. Chase I'm really liking, look forward to the extent of his Koukan gimmick next week. |

A good episode, but damn, how did most of recently delayed episodes in KR/SS get new gimmick/form change/character/heavy plot? |
This episode was really good. I liked that Belt is also speculating that Chaser is based on Proto-Drive. Chaser as a whole is a pretty neat concept. A Roidmude that hunts other Roidmudes when they act too suspicious and risk that humanity could become too aware of them. Shinnosuke naming the Handle Sword was also a great comedy bit.
|
I do like the sword, but I think Drive gets too much gimmicks. I think they should slow down a little bit.
What sucks though is that we don’t see Chaser's thing for another 2 weeks. This dude is way more interesting then Drive IMO. Actually it would be cool if he was the star of the show. An Anti-Hero who does good unintentionally by hunting down Roidmudes who are about to ruin their cover with criminal actions. By doing that, he gets together bits of his past as a Kamen Rider and reawakens to fight the evil organization who created the Roidmudes. But maybe that’s exactly what's going to happen, except the part of Chaser being the star of course. |
Herbie the Freaking Love bug at 21:05.
I see what you did there. Hats of to you sirs. |
Not bad. Not bad at all. Some good fight scenes here and a nice resolution to the plot. But honestly? I'm not really feeling Drive so far. We're backsliding into the two-episode arc format and the tire gimmick seems to be actively trying to out-goofy Fourze. I like Shinnosuke and Kiriko, but the rest of the supporting cast barely registers and I'm sorry, but I refuse to get emotionally invested in the Shift Cars. I really hope this ends up just being a slow starter and that the show tightens its collective tie in the upcoming weeks and really gets into top gear.
In any event, the best part of the episode was by far the 10 seconds of Black footage from that blu-ray trailer. |

Gotta wait and see I guess. I remember back then that alot of guys gave up on Double after the first four episodes. Even now I hear from alot of people that get into Rider and start watching Double having a hard time getting past the first few episodes. Alot of what people say about how they feel about Drive just reminds me sooo much of the situation with Double its almost kinda scary :lol |
This is freaking amazing! I cried at Dream Vegas' back story with Dimension Cab, I can't believe I cried for the back story, what have you done to me Kamen Rider?! Lol. The Roimudes are definitely interesting with collecting the upgraded ones by a certain date, I am intrigued where that goes. Machine Chaser is totally badass and I like his story too, I definitely think he is Proto-Drive as that was a bit hinted at today. I also think that they are hinting that Hayase might end up as Mach with the whole Dream Vegas/Dimension Cab story and Shinnosuke being envious of them. Kiriko is a very awesome character, she already has more back story and character to her than the Gaim Females. I can't wait for more though it sucks we have to wait two weeks for it.

Good episode today. I kind of wish they'd let Kiriko actually shoot Paint, even if it didn't really do that much but she did get her smile back.
Dream Vegas and Dimension Cab being car-bros is adorable. Chaser is pretty cool too. Type Wild very soon then. Do forms normally come this quick? |

This is really not helping my opinion on Drive.
A big part of this episode hinges on us being emotionally invested in the saga of the Shift Cars, which is really hard when they haven't really told us a goddamned thing about them. And while I don't expect them to tell everything at once there's really no reason NOT to at least offer some brief insight. There's a big difference between "characters not knowing" and "writers not telling" the reason for something. The former allows the characters to grow & understand their world along with the audience and the story is usually stronger for it. Drive unfortunately is the latter. Mr. Belt & Kiriko seemingly know all about the Shift Cars & just aren't telling for apparently no reason beyond padding out the story length. That's incredibly lazy writing. |

Dimension Cab is the creepiest upgrade ever. It's like a chikan's ultimate desirable superpower. Also, kudos to running out of CG budget and just using a cut off camera shot of the legs. And the Steering Saber is awkward to look at, but seems more powerful than Den-O's Hissatu attacks. |
I wonder how many "forms" drive will end up with If we are getting type wild this fast. I hope they contuniue to make use of trceron as the show goes on beyond type wild and type Technic.

It's fine when it's being used as a set piece but I'm a little turned off by it during action sequences. Maybe it's the gimmicks or the real bad CG they use for it, I dunno. |
Good episode, really great action and Dimension cab was strange on so many levels. Loved Mashin Chaser fights and the plot resolved well, if not a little too quickly. The show is just too fast.
The Handle Sword isn't bad, also. xD |
