Didnt expect that to happen.

Any source to this? I want to believe that this true but I can't see us having both American and Japanese Godzilla movies coming out so soon after each other.

Oh wow thanks! I didn't think Japan will do another Godzilla movie until Legendary Pictures is finished with their movies. While I love Legendary's Godzilla, I'm looking forward to see a normal Japanese Godzilla movie again. I feel like a kid again with the new Godzilla stuff coming out in the next few years.

Never expected to see Japanese movies alonsside the Legendary ones, but hey, definitely not complaining about it. :)

Oh goodie. A Godzilla movie that won't having Mr. Military boring Mc-not-Quicksilver from X-men DOFP.

Although I wonder is there's gonna be some territory that either japanese and American franchise can't cover to hurt sales of the other. We know certain monsters are Gonna appear in Godzilla 2, but I don't think Toho will use them for this movie.

Best news in the world! I'm not really into the American takes on Godzilla, give me Gojira any day of the week! I'm stoked!

Toho no doubt want to keep the coals burning. With Godzilla 2 not being released til 2018 this will help fill the gap.

But 2014 godzilla got released in Japan...... wouldn't it cause confusion there too? Are you saying that the American moviegoer is more stupid then the Japanese moviegoer?

Not exactly, if there was only japanese or only american flicks I could see it happening with no problem.
It's more the fact of releasing two Godzilla movie series that are unrelated to one another at the same time.

Meh. My first reaction is to be excited, but the Legendary version was so good, that going back to lame suitmation is kind of a downer. We finally got real Godzilla, going back to cheesy rubber costumes is gonna seem like a farce. Plus, Final Wars sucked. I'm keeping my expectations rock-bottom.

I disagree. I think the suits are just as good as the CGI. Plus, there are things that CGI can not give that a real suit can.

Not to mention Japanese movies are lucky if they even have a quarter of the budget of an American film, so the CGI would look god awful.

Final Wars might have sucked, but it was done that way for its anniversary as a send off to everything from before. Not only that, but it was directed by an action director. I doubt we will ever see anything like FW again for a long long time.

1. Casual movie goers couldn't even get the new movie, so why should be care about them?

2. It is Godzilla. They will release it in the US and I'm betting Sony will be the ones to license it. In fact, we are in an era when we will probably see a US release within a year of its Japanese release as we saw with the last few Millennium movies.

I'm just surprise Toho is doing a new movie so soon. I always imagine Toho would wait until Legendary is done with their Godzilla movies. I just hope for a new director and writers for the movie that are good. I don't want Masaaki Tezuka and Takao Okawara back since I find their movies to be mediocre at best. I would also hate to see Wataru Mimura back as a writer for the movie since his writing was terrible in my opinion.

Wonder if the new film will reference the Legendary film in any way, even if its a jokey one-liner like the Millennium films had.

Crossing my fingers for suitmation!!

Well the only movie of Godzilla was the legendary one. So maybe if this interests me I could see, what I guess is a new era from Japan.

I want Kaneko to do another movie.

I think Kaneko was mediocre at best. G2k was pretty dull, GvsM, GvsMG '93 and GvsD were okay at best. I think the 90's for Godzilla in Japan was pretty hit or miss for me.

I definitely can not agree there. Kaneko gave us something new with Godzilla. Not to mention GMK has the best effects of the series since Biollante. His Godzilla was vicious and looked down right evil, the way Godzilla should. The characters were interesting and the mythological aspect was incredible.

G2000 is also a great movie as it had great miniatures and a badass looking Godzilla suit. MechaG 93 and Destoroyah rock too. In fact, I would take even the bad movies of the 90s over any of the crap Toho pooped out in the late 60s and 70s.

I don't know, Godzilla being the incarnation of angry souls from WWII was pretty dumb.

And the design on G was also quite meh. He looked downright weird in most of the scenes. Which was sad since he was pretty evil in this one.

No, he was immortalized by them. He was still created by the atomic bomb, but he also had the souls of the dead within him. It makes sense.

Definitely can not agree there. The last time we got a Godzilla with that much emotional range in his face was in the Biollante/King Ghidorah suit. This Godzilla looked evil. He felt evil. And he was just straight up evil. Not to mention the amazing effects this movie gave us, especially when it came to realism.

I thought you said Takao Okawara when I made my post earlier. I was too tired when I posted and now I feel so stupid. Kaneko is a great director and having him come back would be awesome. GMK was the best Godzilla movie since Biollante in my opinion.

Do they state that anywhere in the movie or do you have a source for that? Only asking because I really want to know and only remember that they said in the movie he's a collection of angry souls. Your point is much better though.

But isnt this also a straight up sequel to the first movie? If so he wasnt created by the bomb, only awakend.

Maybe I was a little bit too fast on this one, I still like him (and the whole movie for that matter) especially the face, but what I still remember where the weird shots of him from below where he looked lika a fat crocodile. More the movies fault than the suits I guess.

I think it depends on which subtitled print you see. The Sony dubtitles one says he was the incarnation of the souls of the dead while if I recall correctly, the one from the Region 3 DVD says he is powered by the souls of the dead. I could be wrong on the exact wording as I haven't seen the R3 DVD subs in about ten years. Either way, it is supposed to be a mix of both.

I hope Warner Bros will release the movie in the US with some type of release in theaters. From what I've been told that WB has the rights to anything new with Godzilla as of 2014.
