Power Rangers Dino Charge 5" Red Ranger Gallery
40 Attachment(s)
Dinosaur Might, Ready to Fight!
TokuNation is ready to ring in the new year with yet another gallery from Power Rangers Dino Charge! And today we're taking a look at the 5" Dino Charge Red Ranger! Packaging It seems that for this years rangers Bandai of America has stepped their game up from the rather bland semi-circular packaging of the Super Megaforce 5" line to what we have here. For Dino Charge we've been treated to some detailed packaging with pretty rad and elaborate graphics & images. Taking it's cues from the Super Megaforce line though this new 5" line also features a nice stock shot of the ranger in question on the back as well as a multi-lingual bio and a short list of stats. The packaging mistakenly labels the Red Ranger with the name Lucas, which was the original name for the character. The name was changed to Tyler when it was realized that Lucas had been used previously for the Blue Time Force Ranger. In any case it appears the change was made too late into the toy lines production cycle to change the name. A cross-sell along the bottom also advertises the other 4 Dino Charge Rangers as well as the initial villain figures for the line, Fury & the Viviks. Main Figure At this point there aren't many surprises left for figures in this scale. The Super Megaforce 5" was liked by many but was not without it's faults. While the figure were of decent quality most of the time they suffered from all too generic sculpting and parts reuse. While I'm sure that will happen here as well, for now Dino Charge Red Ranger is a fairly solid figure. It's standard fair as far as BOA figures go, but it's a pretty decent representation of the character. Definitely much more so than the barely articulated 5" Red that came with the Dino Cycle. While most of the basic tooling is similar if not identical to the Super Megaforce line, the Dino Charge suits feature much more detail, as do their figures. You'll see the standard hip peg hole and basic joints on theis figure. But the scaled look on the upper arms, the newly molded gauntlets, a decent head sculpt, and a hinged shoulder pad can go a long way to making a cheap figure like this look a little nicer. That being said I've seen reports from numerous collectors about sloppy paint applications on their 5" Dino Charge Rangers. While the paint apps are hardly accurate in the first place (inaccurate back of the suit and Dino Com) the overspray of silver on the Dino Com itself is pretty bad. Things like this are all too common in mass market toy lines like this but it's still a knock against an otherwise fine figure. Accessories As is the case with the other 4 simultaneously released Dino Charge Rangers, the 5" Red Ranger includes only two accessories: 1 - Dino Saber. Molded entirely in a lime green plastic this is the one part of the figure that does not exceed the predecessor line. No paint apps on the accessories makes look rather cheap. At least if you're going to cast it in a single color get that color right. While the blade should be this color the entire weapon shouldn't be. Though no one color would have really gotten the job done for this one. The sculpt is otherwise fairly intricate and detailed, a nice paint wash could actually bring quite a bit of that out. 1 - Dino Charge Morpher. Suffering from the same gang molded color issue as the Saber, the Morpher likewise has a great amount of detail that just can't be seen that well. If anything this accessory should have been cast in solid yellow rather than green to at least try to simulate what it should look like. Obviously these weapons don't combine into the Dino Cannon at this scale but that would have been a nice touch. Though it's only two accessories it's about the best we could have expected for a figure of this size at this price point. While they certainly aren't perfect, they do get the job done. Final Thoughts While I've never personally been the biggest fan of the 5" Power Rangers line, it's apparent that the Dino Charge 5" Rangers are nicer than what we got with Super Megaforce. Are they perfect? No, far from it. But for a collector on a budget who wants to own their favorite ranger this is a pretty good stand in. Paint & color issues aside the 5" Dino Charge Red Ranger will look great with most any other 5" ranger figures. |
Not a bad looking figure
Nice! I'll be getting at least one of these, to keep up the eclectic ranger collection that Super Megaforce has started. Did not expect to get into these five inchers, honestly, but I did, and I'm lovin' 'em. Too bad about the green weapons, but hey, at least they're not in the figures hands, in package! No more stretched out hands and warped weapons.
I love that they stopped switching the scales and noe have a universal scale. Now only if they can ban the roid rage in the ranger world. lol
Joking aside I really love the design and even roided out it translates awesomely. The real trick will be getting the whole team.... |
Even now I still can't justify buying anything from this line.
It's okay. The body is still funky.
Having the figurart means I so that be buying it, but it's always nice to see boa improve
An acceptable figure, given that a lower price point is naturally going to drive quality down. The only realm qualm is that the morpher is the complete wrong colour, as stated in the gallery. I guess it was probably cheaper to do both in one colour but it feels really cheap and sloppy.
I think this Red pulls off the muscle look well, and seeing the actor for blue big muscles wouldn't be out of place for DC Blue
It's a nice looking figure, but, good god, those weapons are eye-searing....
Hey, neat, a holster.
It's funny to know that Bandai of Japan is using this body/style for their newest Sentai show's toy line.
I was going to wait to pick this guy up in the TRU 6 pack but then I saw the whole set at Target yesterday and I just couldn't resist to buy them all... I love these figures but I'm hoping that I'll be able to create the kentrospiker with their individual weapons in the next line. I'm looking forward to picking up EVERYTHING in this line. I absolutely loved Kyoryuger (the first entire Sentai series I've watched) and I'm hoping Dino Charge is better than the last 4 Nickelodeon seasons.
It's okay, but there's two problems that really bug me about it. One is the shoulders and how massive they look, and two is the shade of red on the arms being different from the body. I know they're supposed to be, but for some reason it doesn't work on this fig. Maybe because it doesn't look like a layered suit like it does on the other figures but just tacked on arms.
Really decent figures for the price.
Oh my Zordon, those weapons are horrible Maybe if they were in the right colour, but not like that...
I love those group shots with the other dino reds, so cool.
He looks great with the other 2 red rangers!
Tyranno-Power! |
Looks pretty good, they are making better figures.
Looks good for a mass release figure. I think kids hopped up on sugary cereal while watching Dino Charge would enjoy fighting monsters with this guy and his crew!
for what it is i think it looks great. although it has the same amount as previous figures, it doesnt look as roided as them. the weapons, because of the color plastic, look like they should glow in the dark, but they don't.
The 5" figures continue to be decent looking figures. I've actually never gotten one so I don't know how good the articulation feels, but it looks to be not too bad. The garish colour of the weapons are a little odd, but not too too bad. From what we've seen from this wave, the villain is the main thing that's got me interested as a potential buy.
That doesn't look too bad, especially in terms of being a Roidy MaGoo. The SMF figures looked much weirder bulked up than this guy
I'm not a collector, mainly for many and spouse reasons, so this does not appeal to me in that sense. As a man-child who has a PR target demo kids I think this is a good figure. Show accurate enough for kids to play with and not have to worth about damaging a high quality figure. Though as many others have said...those weapons are awful. Who picked that color?
Almost like this better than the Japanese version.
While I'm not particularly a collector of 5" Power Ranger figures, this is a solid piece. Not to mention you can get the Dino Red Ranger trio together, I love that!
Figure looks great for what it is, but two things:
1. I thought his name was Tyler, not Lucas? They're gonna have to change that... 2. I wish the SMF 5-inch figures could have been the same height as the Dino Charge figures to begin with. Gonna be really disorienting. |
Kinda wish they came with their personal weapons. Hopefully they'll release the "Armed On" version in the future
Even with the lime green weapons and BoA's trademark Roid Rage Dino Charge Red is decent.
Why American children see Power Rangers as musclemen I'll never know, but I foresee fun for those same kids with this guy. He almost looks like he's just a grade below the Figuarts version, although that could just me making a rough guesstimate. |
Exactly what I'd expect out of a US figure. Roided out, decently detailed, lacking paint apps, comes with 2 accessories.
Would've been interesting if they had included the combined weapons, or hinged the sword so it could combine. And hey, at least it got a proper hinged shoulder pad instead of it just being painted/molded directly on to the shoulder. |
Looks great, can't wait to find it in NY
For what you're paying for, he looks solid. But as with many others, just not my cup of tea.
The figure really pops and stands out compared to the last few years of figures. That's credit obviously to the suit design but I still think these figures will be fun and sell pretty well only because they stand out so much more than previous Rangers.
Gonna buy the 6 pack at TRU when it releases. |
My favorite gallery as well. I love anything red ranger and seeing that dino team up pic made feel so awesome I have Toku in my life because it's certainly become my main hobby this far. Pictures like that are why I enjoy the hobby and find it so damn fun.
As much as i like the suit designs, this figure is too musclely. It like they're telling the kids"Hey kids take Steroids. They're very good for you.".

That being said, I enjoy these figures. Though they take the past 20 years of muscle-bound Rangers to a bit of an extreme, it doesn't look half bad. |
It's definately a move in the right direction. I really REALLY want them to start painting the weapons. Like, some DOLLAR store weapons are painted.
Well, it's better than I'd expected given what I've seen of Super Megaforce and BoA's apparent allergy to paint.
I just can't get behind the proportions, though. Several months ago, I spotted Super Megaforce Halloween costumes for kids, and they had these (somewhat obnoxious) molded-on muscles. It all just strikes me as a shame because it promotes this bizarre idea of what men are supposed to be built like, and it's totally counter to the actual show, featuring healthy, athletic suit actors. (Er, end rant.) I thought I'd heard they were going to produce some of the villains, though, and I... might actually get tempted into that. Kyoryuger (and ToQger) have some seriously great villain designs. |
I like these figures.
Nice. I like how the Morpher can be holstered on the side. Also, this guy with MM and Dino Red look amazing. So glad I got Jason's when I could. My area needs to hurry up. :lol
