I think I meant to do this a couple days ago, but the 31st kinda crept up on me. Anyway, it's that time of year again: time to look back at the shows and movies of the past year and discuss what stood out as being the most impressive for you.

As always, for releases of this year I'm counting any series that aired any episodes during 2014, including: Kyoryuger, Gaim, ToQger, Zero Black Blood, Power Rangers Super Megaforce, Ultraman Ginga S, Garo Makai no Hana, Drive, and anything else that may have slipped my personal radar this year.

And again, for movies I'm counting anything that came out this year as well as anything that came out last year but wasn't available as a dvd/fansub until this year. If you want to include stuff that hasn't been available for viewing outside of Japan yet but you're pretty sure is going to be really, really awesome, go ahead.

Best Actor should go to Mahiro Takasugi. he knocked it out of the park in Gaim and he deserves so much praise for his performance. a talent I hope to see more of in the future.

best merchandise I would say is lockseeds. those things are a great marketing tool and they can always make more. here's hoping for G3-X lockseed in the future.

Worst is almost definitely Legendary Powers.

Best Actress is easily Yoko Minato's actress (can't remember her name of the top of my head), because she does her own stunt work, automatically making her awesome.

wait, do you mean legendary rider stuff? no, those are great. I love legendary rider shit in everything.

best weapon is Banana Spear.

Best New Show of 2014: I really, really wish I could say Makai no Hana here, but the character issues were too big to ignore. So I'm going with Kamen Rider Gaim.

Best New-to-You Show of 2014: Ultraman Leo

Best Rewatch of 2014: Kamen Rider W (even if I'm technically only halfway through)

Best Movie of 2014: Kamen Rider Taisen Heisei vs. Showa

Best Male Lead Character: Raiga Saejima from Garo Makai no Hana

Best Female Lead Character: I am strong... I am strong... I am strong... Kagura Izumi Girl!!! (I really wish I could've said Mayuri from Garo, but the show's ambition for her were really held up by lousy execution)

Best Male Supporting Character: Everyone who isn't Crow. :p Seriously, though, Gonza from Garo. No contest.

Best Returning Character: Takumi Inui/Kamen Rider Faiz (it's a real tough call with all of the guys who came back in the Rider War movie, but I really liked Takumi's character arc)

Best Suit Actor: Minami Tsukui (seriously, this lady is awesome)

Best Writer: Urobuchi Gen

Best Director: Keita Amemiya

Best Producer: Really haven't followed who's producing what this year

Best Visual Designer: There was a Garo series this year. Amemiya, no contest.

Best Hero Suit Design: Kamen Rider Drive, Type Speed

Best Monster Suit Design: I'd need to go back and rewatch Makai no Hana to narrow down a specific favorite. To save time I'll just go with Eiris.

Best Weapon: Mashin Chaser's Break Gunner. Not a lot of challengers, though, as I universally hated all of Gaim's fruit weapons and Toqger's train weapons.

Best Vehicle/Mecha: Trideron

Best Fight Scene: Drive vs. Heart (again because I'm too lazy to rewatch all of Garo)

Best Dramatic Scene: Rei coming back to train Raiga as a child. (Garo Makai no Hana)

Best Comedic Scene: Can't think of anything immediately that isn't from my rewatches of Den-O and W. Nothing from Drive, that's for damn certain.

Best Song: Makai no Hana's first opening.

Best Piece of Merchandise: I haven't bought any toku merch this year, so Figuarts Hibiki out of principle.

Biggest Surprise of 2014: Crunchyroll streaming not one, not two, not three, but four Ultraman series.

Single Worst Thing in 2014 Tokusatsu: Zero: Black Blood

I say best hero suit design should go to Gaim.

Samurai with a good taste in complementary colors? yes please.

Best New Show of 2014: Drive by default, since I heard everything else was shit anyways.

Best New-to-You Show of 2014: Kamen Rider Faiz. The suits, the characters, the action. So good.

Best Rewatch of 2014: Didn't rewatch anything toku. But Gundam 00 was a good rewatch if we're counting anime lol.

Best Movie of 2014: Kamen Rider Taisen. I seriously love that movie.

Best Male Lead Character: Kouta Kazurba. Because he's an amazing protagonist and had a great deal of change.

Best Female Lead Character: Kriko from Drive. Because nobody else was even decent enough. Not even Yoko from Gaim.

Best Actor: Mashairo Inoue for being awesome as Decade again.

Best Actress: Yoko's actress. For being both decent out of suit an amazing in suit.

Biggest Toku Crush of 2014: Mai. But she's off banging Kouta now

Best Villain: Micchy. Because Yomotsuheguri.

Best Returning Character: Takumi Inui in kamen Rider Taisen

Best Suit Actor: The guy who always suit acts the main riders

Best Writer: Gen Urobochi. Because Gaim.

Best Hero Suit Design: Kamen Rider Baron lemon Energy

Best Fight Scene: Gaim kiwami vs Ryugen Yomotsuheguri. I still get shivers about how badass that fight was.

Best Dramatic Scene: Sagara expositing to God Kouta and Mai about thier roles and outa deciding to change it.

Best Song: Surprise Drive. Damn that is such a good song.

Best Piece of Merchandise: Break gunner. because it didn't get fucked over by compatiblity like secondary transformation devices usually do.

Biggest Surprise of 2014: That Super Hero Taisen GP is going to be much more similar to Kamen Rider Taisen then prior Taisen movies.

Single Worst Thing in 2014 Tokusatsu ToQger. All of it

actually, my favorite song of 2014 will probably be changed to Gaim no Kaze's "Your Song" because DAMN that is a good one.

ToQger. There's only about 3 new shows a year and ToQger is easily the best of them.

Minami Tsukui. It's so nice having a hot women my age in toku. Plus, I love it when actors get into the suits. Just wish she had more to do in the show.

Ryouma. He came dangerously close to winning.

Best Returning Character
Honestly? Faiz. I hate that movie, but I really liked the idea of a past rider returning with a guilt driven arc.

Best Hero Suit Design
Kamen Rider Sigurd. He's easily among my favorite rider designs of all time. Sigurd is a bit of a cheat, so if you don't like that, then Kachidoki Gaim.

Best Monster Suit Design
So many great choices with ToQger. It has to be the Dining Room Bros. They are table and chair monsters. They are amazing.

Best Weapon
Kiwami Arms. He gets all the weapons.

Best Vehicle/Mecha
I dunno, train dong. The mecha have been bland this year.

Best Fight Scene
Gaim vs Baron. There's really no other choice here. It's even better well running the episodes together.

Best Dramatic Scene
All I know is that it's in Gaim. Someone probably dies and Micchy is probably in the scene.

Best Comedic Scene
I dunno, train dong. There's probably better, I just have train dong on the mind...that didn't come out right.
