Toku Spider-Man comes to US comics
 

Not sure how newsworthy this really is, but I guess it's worth mentioning. There's a big Spider-Man event going on now that's bringing together Spider-Men, -Women, -Girls, -Pigs, -Etc. from all over Marvel's multiverse. In the latest issue, this includes the character commonly referred to as Supaidaman, the star of the first Marvel and Toei collaboration from the mid-70s (the others were Battle Fever J, and - technically - Denjiman and Sun Vulcan). Naturally, this appearance also includes the grandfather of all Super Sentai/Power Rangers mecha:

Well that explains where Leopardon went missing.

As much as I loved the cameo and how hyped they made his entrance I'm sad that the precursor to all sentai mecha got wrecked by one bloke in a matter of seconds, would have appreciated actually seeing him fight more.

Considering I'm the person who broke this news yesterday, you can see I'm pleased :lol

I of course manage a comic shop and had copies of the issue to peruse. So I tweeted out photos of the above pages on my personal account and spoiled it for everyone. But it was worth it!

It's always cool to see Japanese Spider-Man back. I still wish that we can play as him in a proper sequel to Shatter Dimensions :(.

Oh dude its all good. I had half an idea to do a front page article on it but since it was more a one-off appearance than anything, and it would primarily be because I'm a HUGE sucker for Toei Spidey, so I couldn't justify it.

Toei Spidey making his first big appearance in a US spidey comic is huge enough news to me but I'm sure it won't come of anything. We get stuck with pointless (to met at least) new ongoings like Spider-Gwen & Silk though.

Has Toei Spidey even been released in the states? I'm pretty sure it's been subbed but has it actually been released? I would so buy a DVD of it.

Marvel had it streaming on their website for awhile, but I don't think there's any physical release.

There was a physical Japanese release but that doesn't help us :(

Marvel indeed had the entire show streaming for several years but pulled it back in 2012 I think. Some sort of issue with the streaming rights.

I think it's really cool that he showed up, and even cooler that he wasn't just a joke, and treated with as much respect as the other Spider-men by the other Spider-men.

Did Spectacular Spidey show up in this?

Yeah, he's there. I think the justifiably much-maligned 90s Spider-Woman is the only major no-show (I haven't seen Best Spider-Woman, but apparently she's in a coma or something).

Wait, are you sure Spectacular Spidey was part of this? I remember reading back before the event started that iterations like the movie Spider-Men and Spectacular Spider-Man were most likely gonna be excluded due to Sony's copyrights over them.

Then again that could have been worked out since then.

Sorry, I misread that; I thought you meant Superior Spider-Man. No, the only cartoon Spider-Men are the 60s and 90s ones.

Well no, the current Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon one is also in it. He teamed up with the Miles Ultimate Spidey.

Um... no, they didn't leave them out. They just, uh... aren't in a position to help (or breathe; a lot of people are salty over that).

I thought that was the 90s cartoon guy. I didn't really read any of the lead-in stuff; I only started this because Ben Reilly is in it and I was interested in the Spider-Gwen hype.

That and Pryde of the X-Men, as I recall. Man, I watched the ever loving crap out of that show when I was a kid.

Does the greatest Spider-Man villain of all time at least show up? (And by that I mean the Prowler. He was my favorite Spidey villain when I was a wee lad. I was a weird kid, I know).

But it isn't actual Ben Reily. He really is dead dead. This is another Ben from a verrrrry similar to the 616 universe, but the real Ben will never come back :(

Yeah, and he's not wearing the Scarlet Spider costume. It's all Marvel will give me, though, so I'll take it.

This was an awesome issue, especially because of Takuya and Leopardon, I wish it would have done more damage though.

So how long before Diamond Select releases a Toku Spider-Man figure where the base is Leopardon's head? Because that needs to become a thing.

I was definitely hoping they would show up in this crossover. Pretty awesome that they finally did. :)

I personally love Japanese Spider-Man myself. I think they took something from America and did a cool take on it unlike something like Godzilla 1998.

This is cool. I'm probably going to get in a book form if/when that's released.

I doubt this is the only time we'll see him. They're probably going to do a thing with the three Japanese Spider-Men later in the story.
