Does it have a reversible cover? Any episode listings? A booklet?

if this does well think there could be a chance of getting other sentias officially brought over to the US?

If my other releases by Shout are any indication you get episode listings on the inside of the cover and that's it.

The only thing special here is it's existence. Zyuranger is an untested niche of a niche. The fact that there is no English audio instantly makes it unmarketable to most Americans as many refuse to even consider subtitles (including many Power Rangers fans that would have a passing interest). It's either a bare bones release or no release at all. Asking anymore then the basics is asking too much.

Uh... why would you want English audio for a live action TV show? That would be pointless.

I was just hoping since they were direct copies of Toei's dics but with subs that they would include the booklets that Toei put with their DVDs. Guess I'll just throw my booklets into my US case.

And you are seriously undermining the demand for this thing if you think it is only a niche few who would be interested in this. Once word gets out that this has been released, it will sell. Shout just has to advertise it and make sure stores carry it. And I mean all stores, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, King Soopers, etc.

You're way overblowing how popular this thing is going to be Kain. This isn't a casual purchase item, it's specifically targeted at people like us. This isn't like Power Rangers DVD's at Walmart or something.

Big retail stores besides FYE is unlikely to carry this. Even my local Best Buy didn't have Shout! Factory DVD of Ultra Seven when it came out. You would have to buy the movie online or FYE.

If they put more extras on the DVD then that would double the price. The more content on the DVD, the bigger price that the DVD will be. As for no booklet, I guess they must have not have time to add one. I believe August on Facebook said that Shout! never ask him to make a booklet for the DVD set.

Hey I think we should be happy that Zyuranger is getting a official DVD release in the US when fans for years thought Saban or Disney at the time would never allow it. Media Blasters wanted to put out the Sentai shows on DVD back in 2007 and Disney said no.

Agreed. Let's just count our blessings this is even happening. I don't need anything extra, just the episodes. Who knows, maybe down the line if they keep putting these out we'll see something special but they don't need to make it fancy. All they need to put out is "Super Sentai in United States."

Well, it is a lot harder to sync up dialogue from a different language to live action footage than animation and not have it look like crap.

That doesn't exactly change the reason why someone would want a dub over subtitles though.

personally wile i can watch subs it is really difficult for me to read the subs fast enough some times so given the choice even if it;s inferior i go for dub as it is easier and more enjoyable to me as i can see what is going on in the scene more

While I dont have a problem reading subtitles I can see why some people prefer dubs. Living in a country were pretty much anything gets dubbed anyway helps that :lol

I just don't feel there's a need for a dub at all. Subtitles are great in my opinion, a majority of shows in the toku genre can only be seen that way anyway. Give me subs and I'm happy. I don't need a booklet, or episode descriptions or anything else with this release for that matter. I just want to watch the show and own it on disc as opposed to the fansubs I'd had before.

Where I will take issue with these subs is if Shout continues this lunacy of supplanting Kyoryu Sentai with Super Sentai. "Super Sentai Zyuranger" is not the name of a show and I will be ridiculously pissed is that's how they subtitle the roll calls. They're argument of 'its more recognizable" as a term only goes so far. If they try and shove into the subs I will be pissed.

No they don call it "Super Sentai Zyuranger" in the show itself. They already showed a picture on twitter that in the show itself it will be subtitled as "Dinosaur Squadron Zyuranger" :)

This thing would shelfwarm if it was in all those stores. This IS a niche item. Its for Sentai and Ranger, Toku fans. Your random everyday person wont buy this. Even if it was becuase MMPR, once they see what it is, they'll pass. HOPEFULLY this sells well enough to continue more releases.

Exactly. It took a miracle for the final VRTroopers volume to be released, and it was shown here in america before. Hell, we still dont even have the final Beetleborgs volume. :(

In all honesty, while it's actually rather admirable that they're not trying to sell this on PR's coattails, it's probably not going to sell well at all with Power Rangers taking a surprisingly small amount of the cover.

It's nice that they're trying to sell Sentai for what it is, but without POWER RANGERS plastered on the cover, it won't catch the casual fan's eye, especially in a non niche store.

I'm not saying it is going to be Bayformers levels are popularity. I am saying it is going to sell to both anime fans and Power Rangers fans if it is marketed well.

Live action is different though. You can't make the audio not look like they were out of sync.

Then how do they expect to sell them if they aren't selling them in stores? If they market it, people will buy it, kids and adults. Anime fans will check it out. Power Rangers fans will check it out. Even those who impulse buy and come across it may buy it. Not everyone surfs the internet. So if it isn't sold in stores, how are they supposed to make new fans from people if they don't even know it exists?

No one sold those series in stores. In fact, I did not even know VR Troopers came to DVD until it was announced that it was canceled.

I'm not saying it is going to sell millions. I'm saying that thinking only 100 people in the entire country are going to buy it is foolish. I get 75-90 people in my Toku panels every year at NDK, and I even have people who have to be turned away because the room is beyond capacity. And that is just at a convention with an attendance cap of 7,500. Imagine how many Toku fans there are at a convention of 50,000 people. Then add on just random Walmart shoppers be it kids, teens, or even adults.

But whatever.

BTW, when I said I want something extra, I don't mean it having to be special features on the discs. I just mean giving us like an episode synopsis booklet or interviews and images of the monsters like Toei puts in each of their DVDs.

It doesn't matter whether it looks out of sync or not, the purpose of a dub is EXACTLY the same. I don't think it needs it either, but the people who don't want to watch subtitles for anime are going to be exactly the same when it comes to live-action shows.

...so, any chance we can start getting some Rider dvds released stateside? I mean since Dragon Knight managed to win an award, it would be a great service if we were to see the show that inspired it get a similar treatment to the one that inspired MMPR.

At the moment, no. This is happening because Super Sentai was included in Shout's licence for the Power Rangers DVDs. Shout doesn't even have the rights for per-Zyuranger Sentai. I'm not saying it never happen, just not in the near future.

Also, Ryuki is still tied up with Adness Entertainment (the company that made Dragon Knight).

I remember Kpa from Sci-Fi Japan saying on Toho Kingdom that Shout! Factory has no plans to release Kamen Rider on DVD. It's possible but unlikely at the moment. I won't mind if the original 1971 series gets a proper DVD release here in the US. Just release the DVDs as Season 1 before you put them in one big box set.

I just don't see why any company would choose to release Kamen Rider (Outside of maybe Black RX) stateside.
There isn't any brand recognition outside of Hawaii (Didn't some series air there?) and didn't the First fail when they brought it over?

I don't see why there has to be some sort of brand recognition to release something in the US. If that was the case, only 5 anime series would ever be released.

The First failed because MB failed to promote it. I put far more effort into promoting it at the time I worked at Best Buy than MB did.

They can bring over Ultraman stuff over here in the US like Ultra Q. Ultraman does not have much brand recognition over here neither. Ultraman: Torwards to the Future and Tiga bombed and where quickly forgotten in the US. There's the original 1966 show but I doubt most people under the age 40 or 50 grew up watching it.
