The Mass Effect Series
From reading the one thread about what people are looking forward to, ME3 was at the top of the list. ME1 was the reason I bought an Xbox 360. I was a fan of bioware from KOTOR. I played a little of ME1, and I went and bought a 360 and the game.
ME2 was amazing. Many upgrades, and some downgrades IMO, from ME1. I did think it had to many characters. I mean I loved all of them, but other than doing their character missions, they didn't add to the over all big picture. Or maybe they did. I am torn about that. ME3 looks amazing. I Can not wait to play it. Any other fans of ME want to share what they think of the games? |
Well, I've been two hours into the first Mass Effect since I bought it during Steam's Thanksgiving sale. I have to say, as someone who downright hates RPG games, I actually did enjoy what I managed to squeeze in of this one. I guess it was the setting more than anything, as I can hardly stand most fantasy-based fiction. I should probably start up with it again.

Owning a PS3, I've only played ME2, But I was amazed by it. Preordered the Big version, does suck that it releases the same month as Streetfigther X Tekken, which I also preordered.

Huge fan of the series here. While most people got the 360 for Halo, I bought it specifically to play Mass Effect.
Gotta say, I'm use to the player characters in these kinds of games to be mute, but when I first started playing ME, it blew me away that the character was voiced. I have the first game on PC, and bought the PS3 version of 2, I have the Collector's edition for 3 on Pre Order, normally don't bother getting collectors edition but all the stuff they crammed in there almost makes it feel worth the extra 20$ You gotta shell out. One more month..cannot wait! |

My favorite game series right now. I too began to fall in love with Bioware thanks to KOTOR. Mass Effect was the first game I ever played through more than once. I played through the game 4 times to unlock every achievement and loved every minute of it.
ME2 was an awesome sequel and I think they did a good job streamlining most things (except maybe, scanning planets for resources?). They did a great job of pulling me deeper into the world, and I just thought the environments seemed all around tighter and more enjoyable to spend time in. The difficulty was ramped up a bit, never did my insanity run, and I never did play through any of the DLC yet. VERY much looking forward to ME3, unfortunately I have a crap ton of games in my backlog right now, some of them being heavy hitters (like Skyward Sword, Dead Souls, Skyrim) but I know when my collector's edition of ME3 shows up, everything else will get pushed aside. |

i LOVE Mass Effect. the only thing i regret in my ME2 game was doing the leftover missions before going in to the big last mission. now all my crew including that cute assistant i had is dead :,( i think i might do the last run on a previous save if i have one, i need to get ready for 3!

Before you get legion make sure you have done any and all side missions you wanted to do. Then make sure you have done ALL of your teams personal missions. This means once you get Legion, you talk to him and get him to tell you about his mission. You then do this RIGHT AWAY. Do not do anything else but legions mission.

I've done the last mission with Legion surviving, and I didn't have his loyalty.

If you plan on going on any other mission after the crew has been taken, you
WILL lose a certain number of crew members: 0 Missions - Saves the entire crew! 1-3 Missions - Lose half the crew, and watch as Kelly Chambers is slowly killed 4 or more Missions - Everyone but Dr. Chakwas will die. |
it was so depressing doing the DLC missions with nobody aboard the ship (i usually save those for last) that i dodnt really care what was going on because i felt like i had failed so poorly at the end.
speaking of the end, so far both of the games endings have been a little... awkward. so after the big climactic battle, theres a few missions left over, and it just feels mundane doing them, knowing that the big enemy is defeated and youve saved the day, but everybody in the universe is like, "so what, you saved the universe. big friggin deal! go do my menial collection task for me, and ill give you credits yada yada yada". i hope the last(is it the last?) game addresses this issue. |

however i still have a problem with how the endgame in ME2 was structured. you must go to the final battle mission if you want to save Kelly and the crew, leaving a handful of side missions incomplete. you can either do them all before the final fight, but as we all know you incur a penalty. its an incentive to leave quests unfinished, which is stupid. logically after you beat the final boss most people lose interest and consider the game done and move on. the side quests are put there by the devs to pad out the game. i guess we should thank them for un-padding their own pad? i guess what im trying to say is, why have extra missions if the player gets penalized for doing them while the tension of the main story is still there? its a strange mechanic that seems unnecessary to the game experience to me, and should have been left out i think. |
