Help finding the best Sentai series
 

I can't do the older stuff sorry. I've tried.

And I'll say this now. Go-Busters was great. Abaranger was good from what I saw of it, I mostly watched it for Abarekiller. Beast.

Anyway, If it's amazingly goofy, I can't do it. If it's very slow, or extreme J-drama, I can't do it.

Suits and powers are kinda key, but The actual story and characters need to not be lame as hell either.

Btw I'm coming From Kamen Rider Gaim, OOOs, and Decade.

Shinkenger is pretty good. And seeing as Decade had a crossover with Shinkenger, perhaps it might be a good place to look.

By the way, when you say "Older stuff" how old do you mean?

Probably anything older than Abaranger

That kind of diminishes what you can watch; Abaranger isn't that old and almost every season after it is pretty goofy. But I would agree in suggesting Shinkenger. It has the same writer as Go-Busters and a similar tone.

If oldies did not work I will not force some of my favorite 80s sentai, but I will suggest Carranger and Megaranger.
Also watch Hurricanger, Dekaranger, Gekiranger, Go-onager, Shinkenger, Gokaiger, aKyoryuger and ToQGer.

So basically all of them? lol I'm extremely picky. And sense Shinkenger was by the same Go-Busters people apparently I'll try that first

I highly suggest Gekiranger. It will most certainly not disappoint. :D

even though it came before Abaranger, you should still jump on Jetman.

I would say Dairanger is pretty good, but since you don't really like pre-Aba then I'd say Shinkenger.

Gekiranger

Goseiger's always an option. Fun, upbeat, full of hope. Angelic MtG cards, regal suits, classic giant robot designs, Land/Sea/Sky dynamic (literally, they have an attack called "Gosei Dynamic"), and above all it will make you hate Megaforce even more.

Though it is quite divisive, especially when Eri bakes a cake. Some attribute it to being between Shinkenger and Gokaiger. Others that it's just a dull series, still more say things that aren't too charitable to series at all.
Either way, go with Goseiger if you want lighter fare to boost your mood if you aren't after J-Drama and the like.

I like promoting Goseiger.

what old sentai have you tried watching?

and how old have you gone? some of the best sentai are the older seasons like Bioman and Jetman. there's also Dairanger and Kakuranger, GoGoV, and even Carranger.

You want to find the best Sentai? Then be open to any suggestion. I know you have you preferred standards, but if you keep yourself in a tight box you may miss out on a great series.

agreed. you should be more open to suggestions. sometimes the best Sentai are the one's that are different from the others.

plus, by saying you don't wanna go further than Abaranger, you deny yourself of Ninja Sentais! why would you deny yourself the hypest Sentai?!

I would also drop a recommendation for Gekiranger and Akibaranger (both seasons; 26 episodes or complete awesomeness). But Akiba makes a lot of references to older series.

And if I can shamelessly plug an older season; I think you should give Liveman a shot. It isn't goofy, there are idols in it (Toei sprung to get two idols to be rangers for the season as a treat to the fans), the story is great, and the ending is exciting, sad, and satisfying. I understand you don't want to watch anything older than Aba, but Liveman is definitely worth the watch.

Gokaiger is good and its a faaar better then decade the extreme J-drama series
but you need to have watched or at leased have knowledge of the old sentai's to have a blast with this one

I highly recommend Samurai Sentai Shinkenger.

Ironically, that's my favorite stuff. I don't like how they started using so much CGI when Gaoranger came out. I watch stuff like this for the suits.

As for newer stuff, I've heard that Dekaranger and Gekiranger are great, and i've heard good things about Shinkenger as well. I've only seen the first episode of Gekiranger, and it was pretty cool. Awesome suits and powers. The lead character was pretty high energy and goofy, but then again, it's hard to find newer Sentai that isn't very goofy. The more serious ones are the older ones.

IMO I really liked Dekaranger, Gekiranger, Shinkenger, Magiranger was pretty decent to me, Gokaiger was alright.

None of it to me is the "best" but in itself they are all so great.

You should start with Tensou Sentai Goseiger. It's an excellent series to pick up and enjoy. It has great characters, the best Other in Gosei Knight, the absolute best Sentai villain in Bureduran, and what's agreed to be the best Sentai team-up movie. Goseiger vs Shinkenger. And 199 Heroes.

You should start with either jyuken sentai gekiranger or kaizoku sentai gokaiger

If you're not into older stuff, you can't go wrong with the newer stuff. It's usually pretty excellent.

Since you've already seen Go-Busters, that leaves Shinkenger, Goseiger, Gokaiger, Kyoryuger, and ToQger. Of those, Gokaiger is the most consistently entertaining, but they're all high-quality shows.

Beyond these, you start venturing into SD series territory-- which, if you're like me, is best to do after you've developed an irrational love for the franchise, cause you're gonna need to forgive A LOT to enjoy them.

I feel like Gokaiger was a pretty terrible place to start, simply because of how often they change suits. Unless you're already familiar with the series and simply haven't watched any yet, it seems like the Gokai changes would just get annoying and make very little sense.

Can't really agree. Gokaiger was my starting point and the Gokai Changes were one reason i got interested in Super Sentai and wanted to watch more. I wanted to know more about those teams and so i started watching.

I think the best way to start is think of a topic of a sentai that may interest you (in my case if not for Gokaiger it would have been dinosaurs) and just start watching the show. If after a few episodes you find it not apealing just switch. That's how i do it anyway XD

I'm with you. I had only watched Shinkenger (and random untranslated episodes of other seasons I could find online in the Limewire era of internet file sharing... oy) before checking out Gokaiger, and I thought it was a blast from start to finish.
