toku fan stereotypes?
 

I've heard a lot of people make stereotypes about toku fans and think they all look this:

or that their life revolves just around toku, or not physically active or their immature and all that nonsense.

anyone else deal with these stereotypes

that fat nerd pic is often used for nearly EVERY nerdy stereotype. not just toku.

I say our misconception is that we like power rangers, but that's about it.

we're pretty nice to everyone except when we disagree we often are rude, but we respect everyone's opinions. thats a stereotype I've seen among toky fans.

That stuff is as true as the stereotype that all toku fans are male. *cough*

Stereotypes for nerds are pretty much always the same and interchangeable.

Dont know anything about specific toku related stereotypes since I always just here from people "Whats a Toku?".

I was told, yesterday, that they should get kids to moderate the MMPR Forums since PR is a show meant for kids. Apparently my fandom had an age limit, who knew.

ew, no.

Is there even such a thing as the MMPR forums?

With that mindset, we should also get kids to produce and direct MMPR, since it's meant for kids.

Every time somebody looks at my collection of figuarts Riders, they go "Are those Power Rangers?"

Well except for my teachers, because they're all Japanese and know what Kamen Rider and Super Sentai is.

I honestly never understood how Riders (Armored characters) are constantly interchanged with Power Rangers (Spandexed (Not really but you get the idea) characters) to people with little knowledge of either.

It's like if someone asked "Why isn't Batman in the Avengers?" thinking all costumed comic book heroes were in the same universe, they see "costumed superhero from Japan" and think PR because "PR is from Japan, right?".

Because they are descended from similar design asthetics.

Well I seen people compare Ultraman to Power Rangers as well. It's not like Kamen Rider is the only Toku series that people compare Power Rangers with. I remember one person thought Ultraman Ginga was a Power Ranger character when he saw me watching the show in the lobby room a year ago.

But...They're not. Aesthetically speaking, they're worlds apart, with glossed armor and heavy suits underneath, large helmets with separated eyes, and more details extending past the torso.

In all honesty, Rider figures should end up more associated with Ultraman, aesthetically speaking.

Honestly comic book superheroes always had more in common with Power Rangers than Kamen Rider did to me.

The only real similarity to me was that they both wear helmets.

I get that too. I also remember when someone saw my Mazinger Z figure and ask what Gundam was that lol.

Well, they were both made 5 years apart and diverged thier styles from there. And for casuals to recognize a Rider as a Ranger must mean something right?

Pretty sure we're not a known enough fandom to really have a stereotype.

I tell someone I'm into tokusatsu and I get a blank stare.

They look more like Beetleborgs if you ask me

we're really mellow about different opinions.

^ That's a really good thing imho and I prefer it by far over the horrible fights in the Sailor Moon fandom.
