Dino Charge Ep 04 "Return of the Caveman" Discussion and Poll
The fourth week of Power Rangers Dino Charge brings us to a Koda-centric episode. There's a jail monster running a muck and he's captured Chase! Can Koda's instincts help them survive long enough to escape?! And there's a new weapon in the arsenal this week.. The twin Dinos making up the Dino Charge Dino-Cycle!
Tune in Saturday at Noon Eastern only on Nick! |
An episode?! About Koda?! This is just going to be too good! :D
|
The episode was alright. But it raised a lot of questions, all about Koda. Mostly if he's been alive for all this time, how can he not know these things. He should know about TV and how to tell time, and bicycles as well. If they said he was in hiding for that long I'd get it, but they didn't. Chalk it up with how he can't talk perfectly as something that should be explained but never will.
|
We now have Luckyuro as a Frankenstein like monster named Curio. At least they brought the character in.
|
It is implied that Koda falling to the icy water below in the flashback while holding the Energem means he was frozen and then thawed out. Don't know for sure but it's implied.
I was really impressed that they turned a Green focus episode in to a Blue focus episode. Overall a great episode - well paced until the end when it felt a little rushed to finish the battle, etc. An easy 5 in my book. |

With the line that Kendall said where she had Keeper help her track down Chase and then they "found Koda", Koda has only recently been "unthawed" (maybe a couple months) to see the modern world. Which is why he doesn't understand all modern things. |
So does this make Koda Captain America?

But I believe Koda will save the world! *AtLA theme music plays* |

Another fun episode, can't wait for more! |
A fun little episode and oddly enough I think this was one of the first episode to show the Sentai name for one of the zords. In the Dino Cycle fight scene you can see Red loading a beast battery with Gabutyra's name on it.
|
So Luckyuro is a Frankenstienian playmate for Poisandra and he's named Curio.
Fun! :) |
Some episode trivia I just found out on RangerWiki: Curio is voiced by Estevez Gillespie, better known as the voice of Tensou from Megaforce/Super Megaforce, and Slammer (the MOTW), is another guest voice appearance by Nic Sampson (Chip/Mystic Force Yellow)
It was a cool episode. And now we know what the US names of the Kyoryujin combinations will be. (So most likely, Kyoryujin Western will be Dino Charge Megazord ParaRaptor Formation, and so on.) |
Wow this is the first episode of DC I missed, this might end up like the last few years where I don't watch the show after the hiatus.

Another good episode. I like Koda's story and it was good to get some clarification.
But there are a few things that bother me overall. *I really don't think we need the narration at the beginning of each episode. That's gonna get old real fast. *Editors missed a "Gabutyra" in the Sentai footage. Not really a flaw, just noticeable. :P *"Dinosaur Might, Ready TO Fight." Ugh. The morphing & roll call sequence is padded enough already; adding a really strained rhyming tag at the end isn't helping matters. |
Anyone got a downloadl ink handy?
|
Haha, I was wondering if anyone else noticed the Gabutyra Easter egg, lol.
|
Anyone have a link?

Okay, THAT was awesome! They way the wrote Chase out of the episode in order to match the footage was very well done and if I wasn't familiar with how the sentai introduced each ranger one at a time I wouldn't have even noticed. Good on Saban for actually working around the footage in a creative way instead of just falling back on stock footage in an effort to get the episodes done as quickly and cheaply as possible.
Also, Koda is just awesome. First time I actually cheered for a ranger in a long time. Not half bad for a guy born over a hundred years ago. |

Another great episode. And with my big issue with Koda seemingly resolved (I definitely inferred frozen, but some clarification would be great in a future episode) I'm back to having no major issues with the show so far.
|
Did you guys notice that the Kyoryuger footage they used was from a Kyoryugreen-centric ep? If my memory serves me correct it is the one where Souji has a dispute with his father over his fencing style.
Anyhoo, kudos to the creators who managed to make an awesome ep without trying to forcefully match it to the source footage. Because they could have gone the easy route by making it a Riley ep but they said forget that and paved a whole new route with this ep. Looking forward to ep 5. |
Really loved the episode. Koda and Chase have a great dynamic together and are my favorite characters in the show right now. Funny since Nossan and Ian were my favs in kyoryuger as well :lol
The comedy in this show is really great and I like that it doesnt feel forced. Like Riley saying Koda not knowing what time is. Its just something he would say in this situation and it doesnt fell constructed to get a cheap laugh. One thing I didnt like was the Roll Call. I am a sucker for good roll calls and love them to death but PR has yet to do them right. It just lacks the energy a really good roll call should have. |
Koda didn't survive all these years by 'Vandal-Savaving' it, but more like 'Captain Americaning' it. Cool. Like others, this makes now 100% a-okay with his speech patterns and fears of technology.
Another few thoughts: - He referenced a sabretooth tiger last episode and it was shown in this ep. Good continuity. - Koda's shirt seemed to disintegrate as he escaped from the cave. :lol - They actually had the boy break/injure his leg. That action really upped the stakes and pushed the idea of Koda protecting this boy like a brother. |

It feels totally shoe horned in for padding. |

Man, I am digging this show. I liked the focus on Koda this week; we really got a good sense of who he is and how he's learning to interact with the modern world. I hope this is going to be a recurring thing - I don't need to see Koda attack a tv or try to ride a bike every week, but some occasional struggles with modern conveniences would be fun. He's basically Power Ranger Amazon and that is more than okay with me.
|
This was a great character center episode. I hope there more for the rest of the team.

Yep, totally cool with Koda now. And a solid episode all around.
|
Cool to see Koda's backstory. Also, sweet motorcycles. Glad to see those on a set again. Id say last time we did was... SPD, I think.
