Shuriken Sentai Ninninger Episode 2- "Become The Last Ninja!" Discussion
An exiting adventure ended with a startling confrontation! Will the Ninningers learn more about their family secret???
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams are at 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Pretty funny episode. I enjoyed it.
|
Fire Extinguisher Kappa is genius. His but rockets reminded me of Gamera in the best ways :lol
I felt better with this episode than the more rushed initial outing. The show is start to click for me a little more each time. I was excited for it from the start but the first episode was a little jarring to me. Glad to see the pace get back to some normalcy this time. |
I like how we got a cool blue again and Shurikenjin Drago is awesome.
Now next episode we finally get Gabi Raizo the ichibanyari, who I am hyped for considering who he is played by(the best teacher ever, Zanki). Also, when I went to the toei site, I notice he has a hanya mask on but with the center area torn away. Creepy yet cool. For those not familiar, this is what a hanya mask is. http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs47/i/20...paaatricia.jpg |
So apparently Blue is Harry Potter, look at how them throw magic element in this episode made me went LOL all the time. On the one hand, it's pretty unique & cool. On the other hand, it just made the show weirder. I expected this show should be more serious than ToQGer because of the obvious reason, but from 2 episodes so far I should learn to accept the funny scene that they are using.
Shurikenjin Drago is cool, I still want more of it. |
I loved how everyone's magic attacked only White. She is going to be the pratfall character for sure.
So far the break of the tropes are: Passionate Red Cool Blue (Or Royal Dick Blue) Joking Yellow Sisterly Pink Bubblely White. |
Subs are out.
Pretty fun episode, but the rivalry between Red and Blue is pretty annoying and Shurikenjin Drago got way less screentime than it deserved. Monster-design continues to be amazing, fire-extinguisher Kappa is genius. Doesn’t beat Jason Voorhees-Weasel but still cool. The pacing is better and I liked the comedy too. |
Does over time do MP4 formate on there stuff. I don't like converting due to half the time converted to raw with out the subtitle track so do they do MP4 file.

Do you really need to convert though? Both VLC and Media Player Classic Home Cinema play MKV just fine. Or do you want to watch it on a TV or Console that can't work with the format? |

Overtime’s SD is mp4 while there HD is mkv.

Nininger's off to a great start.
I like that they didn't do the obvious thing with the Elemental Shurikens by giving Red fire ETC, I also like the fact that the powers don't seem to be confined to one Ranger either Not sure how I feel about Blue having a catch phrase though...it kinda got old pretty quick in this episode. |
Really awesome episode. I absolutely love how they are doing a new take on the whole Leader vs Second in Command rivalry you get alot in sentai. Its just so cool that you get the rivalry between them because the second in command doesnt want the same thing the leader wants. Usually its the 2nd in command who wants the leadership role but here Yakumo couldnt care less about becoming the Last Ninja. He just doesnt care about being a Ninja but does it anyway because thats whats expected of him by his family.
And then they make it even more unique by having them being rivals regardless because Takaharu doesnt like Yakumo being an ass about the whole thing and first has to proof that he is as good as he always brags about. Normally the rivalry is what prevents them from getting along with each other in Sentai but here its the thing that makes them work together in the first place. Action was also really good again and I like Shurkenjin Drago. The Set they used for the mech fight was pretty awesome and I liked how they made the earth tear open during the finisher. |
This was a good episode.

Well, it was a step up from the premiere, but I'm still not super feeling the show. The characters are completely unoriginal and just reuse stock traits from past Sentais. I can deal with that if done well, though, like in Dekaranger. I'm about ready to smack Takaharu in the face, though; he's almost Jan-level hyper and obnoxious.
The biggest drawback to me is all the over-the-top goofiness. I've complained about that a lot in Drive already, but with Super Sentai it is usually one of the key things that will drive me away from a show. If Ninninger is going to keep that up, it's going to really have to make up for it in other areas or I'm tossing it in the "F This Shit" pile next to Magiranger. Also, Shinkenger called: they want their headquarters back. And helmets. And villain gimmick. |
it was good
faar better then the boring 1st episode the grampa was funny and the sword finisher CG moves is really cool the AkaNinger guy is lame his personality gives me vibes from Kyoryuger King im looking foreword to next episode that's going to focus on the yallow sentai |

Has Kasumi/Pink been in any other tokusatsu before? She looks really familiar.

She also played Hilda Gordon/Horror Girl in Uchuu Keiji Sharivan NEXT GENERATION and Uchuu Keiji Shaider NEXT GENERATION. |

Still looking forward for Starninger.
I heard that Starninger could make his debut in April according to magazine. |
I loved this episode a lot. Well Yakumo is my favorite since the first episode and learning more about him this episode was great. I enjoyed that he was a bit more skilled than everyone in practice but in battle him and Takaharu are the same level. I love the rivalry between them it reminded me a lot of my brother and I at times. I also felt that Yakumo wants to be a wizard more than a Ninja with his wand and the magic he was doing but still I am glad he changed his mind and wants to be the Last Ninja too. Kasumi is interesting I like Yakumo's line about her sharp tongue, but I think that's intriguing that she's blunt and says how it is. Takaharu is so much fun and I love how he landed on the water and they gave him the score of 9.8. I am so happy they are keeping the elements from the last two series of the nice mixture of Sillyness and Seriousness but definitely this is a different brand of sillyness than ToQger was. I love how their personalities definitely shine throughout the fight scenes. Fuuka was hilarious when all of their practices shots with the 5 Element Shuriken messed up and she got hit with all of them except for Yakumo's. Can't say much about Nagi but his fighting style is pretty fun and can't wait to see more about him next week. I love their Grandfather is so silly and fun. This show is a lot of fun, and I love the villains I can't wait to see the new General.

Yay, Blue is a jerk! The tropes are real.
MagiRanger would like their schtick returned. I also like that Kasumi is also really acerbic. About time we had a Pink without the cutesyness. She's a bit of a priss with a mouth. I <3 Fuuka. Just...yeah.... And yep, Takaharu is definitely Daigo 2.0. Unfortunate. I'd rather have a Red that doesn't just rush ahead on hope and guts. But I guess they wanted someone who didn't scream Shinkenger backup team. Everything about this series makes me think they took all the gimmicks of Gaim and dropped them into a Ninja setting. Not a bad thing, just so off the beaten path wacky. |
That was a pretty funny episode, I liked it.
So we have a blue/red focused episode, next looks yellow-ish (with a new villain), then we can speculate ep4 (5?) will be white/pink. If 1 or two more main villains are to come, the question is, after that what will be the quality of the serie with the status quo (until ep 16~17 with starninger arrival) ? ToqGer was weak in this domain, though some of them fillers were awesome. On smaller details, I'm not a fan of the MOTW design so far (an animal crossed with a mundane object with edo-period stylistic elements). I hope we'll see our 'ninjas' sometimes acting like real ninjas: more like little sneaky evasive and treacherous bastards than, *cough*, blond-guy-not-a-ninja-dattebayo. |
Star Ninger is showing up early this year. He debuts in april so more around episode 10-12.

So, that's a show, where in the very first episode, the battle cry "the ninjas who don't hide" renders the title wrong/out of waters/lol/wtf (and they HIDE the mechs btw). But I understand the title is marketed waaaaayyyy before the writer(s) begins his work. |
Quote:
They inherit the Ninja title but do things their own way regardless of the things they are expected to do. |
Ninja's that don't hide becuase they don't got no time for that.
Sounds legit to me. |
So far, so good. I did not even know that the mechs could swap seats.
|
I kind of loathed this episode for the first 10 minutes.
Two reasons... 1) I find Ninja Grandpa insufferable. I am not charmed in the slightest by that guy. He gives me Magiranger vibes, which, just, no-- please, no! 2) The actor who plays Takaharu/AkaNinger is objectively terrible. I know sentai actors usually get better after a few episodes, but this guy... he worries me. I kind of hate looking at his dumb face, and that might become problematic. But who knows? Maybe I'll come around. That said, I got REALLY into the episode once it started being about Yakumo. That guy -- and the actor who plays him -- is awesome. A lot of Sentai series are scared of having their heroes come into conflict with each other, and I'm glad to see that Ninninger won't be one of those. The teams are always better when the members don't get along 100% of the time. One last thing: Shurikenjin Drago is baller. |
