Shuriken Sentai Ninninger VS Kamen Rider Drive SPRING VACATION SPECIAL! Discussion
In lieu of the normal "Super Hero Time" programming block, this weekend we get a special crossover!
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams are at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Uh...does anyone know where the back-up steam is? Cause this one is not working for me.
|
At least nobody is complaining this time about it taking away from the Kamen Rider show's story lol.

Like last year, this combo is funny but darker. I love how Special Unit keep arresting Ninninger and the ninjas keep using technique to escape :lol UFOMaru was dissolved is really unpredictable, but that was a nice plot to explain 2 worlds are colliided and timeline is being alternated. However, I'd like to have more interaction between non-Red members and Special Unit, sadly there's nothing to happen. At least last year we had that interaction better. This year is like Akaninger vs. Drive. Btw, a good episode, hope that they keep doing special combo like this |

Only watched the first 5 minutes so far, but Kouta behaved better with people he didn't recognize. Shin had nor real reason to attack those five, especially after encountering the good Roidmude a few weeks back. He shouldn't have gone in guns blazing. |
I loved it. The "I saw a giant robot" bit could have been better.

Here's a fun little tidbit while we wait for the subs:
http://i.imgur.com/pZdcC5v.png The white globe above Takaharu's head is a fairly old Super Sentai prop known as the "Neon Ball." It has been reused for a variety of shows: *As a piece of Vyram's base in Jetman *Bandora's telescope stand in Zyuranger *Seen in Dairenoh's cockpit in Dairanger *Used as laboratory equipment in Kakuranger *Seen as part of Pyramider's cockpit in Ohranger *Integrated into a background device for Gingaman *Glimpsed briefly in Psyga's base at one point in GoGo V *Last seen stuck in a closet at one point during Hurricaneger. I'm amazed the thing still exists. |

Also did anyone notice Kishi Yuji was Dr. D? Funny how someone who was the red hero in a car-themed sentai becomes the guest vilain. |

Wheres the subs for this?

Subs are up now.
I liked it. Had to resort to a backup stream to watch it live but it's a fun episode. It has the advantage over Gaim in that neither series is in that big of a continuing plot right now (there is the Chaser thing going on but that isn't really as urgent as what Gaim had interrupted) so that helped it from the start. The idea of a sealing shuriken and a viral core combining was a very good one, and the Shocker twist was a perfect way to tie it into the movie. There were a few problems with it (doing the villain-robot gag again, the fact that they immediately start fighting on seeing each other) but I liked seeing the characters meeting and making it explicitly a universe-travel thing helps with continuity. |

Is it at least better than the Gaim/ToQ crossover? That was so damn dreadful I'm not sure I want to even watch this.

P/s: This episode should have aired last week because of delaying of Ninninger, so don't bother with Gou being able to transform |

I would definitely say this crossover was better than the Gaim/ToQ one. Much more explainable, a little less overly complex. Timing could have been a little better, and the whole "I'm on your side" bit was drawn out to fill in the hour.
That actually brings up a good point. Is Gaim now so over the top that if he's placed into anything, it's like a plot god mode where nothing can touch it? Just noticed how he's not part of the movie wars Grand Prix. Then again, that actually gives more screen time to my favorites like OOO and Blade. How many times can Shocker come back? As a belt? Really? Wake me up when they bring him back through his underpants. The only Heavy Pressure then would be the fart noises. SMH. I get it, they've run out of Heisei era Riders to make the old school fans moon over, so they're just going to regurgitate new ones, put them into old Heisei uniforms, and call them by number. I'm not sure whether to be insulted or not, but since I live in a country where regurgitation of original ideas is considered the norm, I'll just have to accept it. Five episodes in, and I'm tired of Takaharu. Is that bad? |

He endured the time-alterations of Shocker do to his Overlord-abilities. In the movie he enters the Grand Prix disguised as "Shocker Gaim" and helps the other Riders to combat Shocker. He get's taken out by Rider 3 alongside Double, this scene can be seen during the credits of the spring special. |
^ Ah....I see it now. Thanks guys.

Soooo Tomari fights body stealing androids that slows down time, yet he finds the idea of spandex wearing modern day Ninja obsured?
You'd think that after all the crazy shit he's been through he'd learn to keep an open mind. |

Well when I watched the raw for this special I was dissappointed but now with subs it was a really nice drive. The special talks about existence which I have pondered over which is really nice and how is the special twisted? The explaination for stuff that happens works very well too, therefore I dare say this is better than Gaim/Toq EDIT : Oh my, Doctor D is actually a Shocker scientist before Drive even happened... Red Racer plays the role well too |

That Turtle Cannon is the best monster I've seen in ages :)
But, lack of good Ninningers aside, this was pretty good. Mach getting his ass kicked by Sango was good, and the confrontation between the Chief and the Last Ninja... Well, I liked it. The episode overall was pretty good, not excellent, but it does make me want to see the movie. And it makes me wonder if the destroyed Roimude counts towards the total... I guess this is sort-of canon. Maybe... |

Yup. Kame Bazooka showed up in the first two episodes of V3 and killed the double Riders.

Man, that ending was....Aburpt. If I didnt want to see the movie before I really want to now. I love the lore ther are digging up for this alternate history thing. Looks to be really good. Still pissed drive didnt get a nininjer upgreade the the Trideron marou didt show up pre movie.
One another note, how are the nininjers going to show up for the movie if they have been wisked away back to thier home? Good episode, also nininjers being treated like decade is not cool. |

... And now that Rider 3 shows up, he returns the favor by officially killing them! ;D |

Those first few eps of V3 are fantastic. I'm always happy to see Kame Bazooka turn up again :D
Really enjoyed this special, and I have to say GP is the most excited I've ever been for a Taisen film. Sure the concept has been done to death but the execution is really interesting this time around. Rider 3 is shaping up to be a great character. |
I'm so lost now... So Rider 3 killed Ichigo and Rider 2? So what is their explanation for them coming back however many times in crossover movies?

Oh man, did I not like this. Drive and Ninninger are both shows that can deeply annoy me and this special managed to take and amplify all of their obnoxious qualities. The second I heard the captain and ninja grandpa in the same room I couldn't start fastforwarding fast enough.

How exactly 3 comes in existence to begin with I don't know, but I guess the film will cover that. |
