Garo: Gold Storm -Sho- discussion
Here we go again: another spring, another new Garo series. A preview episode aired in Japan yesterday with the proper season premiere airing next week. Over-Time was kind enough to sub the preview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsJi_ASPFus Here's to another fun year in the vaguely distant future with Ryuga, Rian, and an actual practical suit. |
I've been interested to watch GARO for some time now. Is this show standalone or is it a continuation of another GARO series.
|
I can't wait for this, I love Ryuuga and Rian and less CGI will be amazing too.
|
Sometimes I wish they did a new GARO series, this time they'd have a real FEMALE Makai Knight!

I would love for that to happen too, but I'm not holding my breath. |

I can imagine for the next series, if Raiga still appears and hopefully Kouga comes back. I would imagine 5 Makai Knights (4 boys & 1 girl for the first time). I would imagine the female one wielding a rapier mixed as a whip. |
I agree it's a BS rule, but it doesn't really bother me as half the time Makai Priests/Alchemists are cooler than the Knights. I don't feel as if Garo is lacking badass women, they're just badass in a different way. Though I will admit it would be awesome to see Jabi armor up.

Magic can be sexist, what can I say? |
Too bad they don't throw in more all rounders like Dan who is both strong in weapons and magics.
They should also make a spinoff of some male priests band to balance out the number of knights. |

First episode is up at Over-Time. You can also find the preview episode they skipped over at TVN.
I liked the first episode. A lot. After months of sub-par Kamen Rider and an incredibly dull kick-off to the new Super Sentai, it's so nice to have a show that feels interesting and competent again. It doesn't have quite the same old school Garo feel as Makai no Hana, but it feels closer than TOWSITD did. I'm glad to see that this show should avoid Makai no Hana's biggest failings, though, given that Gold Storm is going to be a single ongoing story instead of episodic. Amemiya's more directly involved this time, too, it seems, which is usually a good sign. The premiere does a nice job of catching us back up with Ryuga and Rian. Obviously, those of us outside Japan haven't had a chance to see the movie yet, but I don't feel lost - the Garo suit (yes suit, not CGI, thank every deity ever) is different and Ryuga has a new scabbard, but the show isn't making a big deal out of it. The main point of Ryuga's background is still the de-blackening of the Garo armor. No mention of Aguri or Takeru, but I don't mind; I can do without another season of Junya Ikeda chewing on the scenery. The main story so far centers around some kind of powerful sword. A couple of Horrors (one of whom is played by Masahiro Inoue) try to retrieve it but only end up with half when it splits into two pieces and flies off. No explanation yet, but it also releases some kind of crystal with an LCD countdown display. I assume it's a countdown to release some kind of gigantic, topless destroyer of worlds. Onore Dickeido. Ryuga and Rian mostly just fight a Horror. There's some good fight choreography and character moments (plus I'm pretty sure I saw a Keita Amemiya cameo, if I'm not mistaken). The action is definitely looking good so far, even if the main Horror this week is still in CGI. Another one appeared that looked far more like a suit, though, so ideally we'll get a mix of CGI and practical monsters again. The new opening song is probably the weakest so far, very unmemorable. The ending is performed by several actresses from current and past Garo shows, most notably Mary Matsuyama in an all-white Rekka costume. Sakina Kuwae's orange and purple jumper looks fucking terrible. The song itself isn't bad. But yeah: good premiere, pumped for more. |
Was a pretty good first episode. I dunno if I like the new Garo suit or not yet though. While I appreciate the shake up, that collar is potentially overkill. I was momentarily confused by Zaruba's new hat as well :lol

so wait do we have are first female makai knight now is this continustion of maki no hanan or continuation of one set in the future

Hell yeah, my Garo fix is back.
That was a good first episode. Maybe the fight with the twins lacked impact, compared to some more brutal fights in TOWSIDT. I wonder how they will manage the precious CGI scenes this time. In TOWSIDT there were cheap episodes with less effects, and a few other were shiny CGI packed action fest (damn that ep. 9 with the fight in the aerial subway ! One of the best Garo moments ever). |
Will there be any more makai knights in this series? In REAL armored suits not CGI?

Did someone edit the thread title? I could have sworn I set it as "Gold Storm Sho," since that's the title of the series.

It's a good start to this new Garo series.

The first episode was great. I am completely enthralled to have Ryuuga back, arguably my favorite GARO; and I love Rian too so great to see them both again. Decade is great in this, he plays an amazing villain and great to get a series villain (seemingly) in the beginning of the series always helps out too. I am intrigued with the sword that became two daggers because of what kind of power it holds, it definitely looked like an amazing sword so I am excited to see what happens when it's formed. I like the upgraded look for Zaruba with the knight helm look, it's nice to see he gets a new look too. The fights were kick ass like always, great to see Rian using her Madou Brush and her new gun to fight makes her feel that she has evolved from the last series; also she looks cuter too. Ryuuga is once again an ass kicker here, and his sheath has blades on it, that's a fucking great idea! I love how Ryuuga went from having one of the worse suits because it was CGI to having one of the best real armor suits ever, man that suit is beautiful. Honestly I am really excited for the next episode, and I am happy that I am finally caught with GARO that I can talk about it weekly!

Daigo = Giga has been confirmed to be in Gold Storm, as the knight who gets in the way of Ryuga.

Can anyone send me a link to watch the first episode?

I am similarly having a problem finding not only a subbed version of episode 1, but even a quality raw. I won't torrent.
|
Just go to Over-Time's page. There's links to download it there.

Episode 2 is up at O-T. It's another good one, too. We get some more backstory to this year's plot (it's n ot that dissimilar from Makai no Hana: the broken sword was a lock that held a powerful Horror in check and the daggers must be recovered before it reawakens but they probably won't be and Ryuga's going to have to fight a giant naked woman). We got a few new cast members this week, too, including this year's new Makai Priest and two beloved returning characters from that movie none of us have seen (one of whom looks like she got lost on her way to the Shougeki Gouraigan set).
There's some good action this week too, including a really cool untransformed fight. All-in-all, a very good episode. |

Fun fact, Hidezaku Ichinose, who portrayed the moth-winged Horror in this episode, previously portrayed Keisuke Fubuki, a member of the Elite Young Expert Squad (EYES) in Ultraman Cosmos

I must say, after 2 episodes, I'm enjoying this one a lot more than that. I like that Amemiya's gone in the opposite direction in terms of this one being one big long story, rather than the abundance of standalone episodes last year. Dammit, though, I wish the movie was more standalone. |

*checks TVN's cast page* Yeah, apparently she is. And Amily is the actress who played the albino nude demon lady in Red Requiem. Cool to see them both get expanded roles. |
dammit, Miki Nanri is just . . . HHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGHHHHH
i love her |
Another good episode this week. Kind of sad, but it was really nice to see Rian getting more character development. I think we saw more development for Rian in three scenes than we did for Crow in all of Makai no Hana.
New priest really needs to start doing something, though. As it stands he is adding nothing to this series by just laying around talking to his puppet thing. |
Episode 3's Horror of the week is none other than Sid from Gaim. Almost didn't recognize him without the facial hair and hat.
Anyways, I'm enjoying the show. Nothing else to say about it right now. |

I enjoyed Episode 2 a lot. Ryuuga and Rian I missed them a great deal because seeing them again makes me really happy. Decade and the girl are intriguing right now and I like this whole storyline with Radan right now, I hope the pacing goes better than Makai No Hana's. The daggers are interesting, when I saw it with the sponsors names in the beginning of the first episode I was like this show will have something to do with them. I love the people helping Ryuuga and Rian they were a lot of fun, and I did like that they mentioned Aguri, Takeru, and Burai as well; I hope they all make cameos in some form or another in this show. The fight scenes are really awesome and I loved the finisher they performed together. I normally wait for TV Nihon's episodes because I have only watched their subs on GARO but with that ending I might not be able to wait.
