Kamen Rider Drive Episode 33: "Who Killed Shinnosuke Tomari?!" Discussion
Our hero has fallen! Can a new power save his life???
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams are at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Great EP.
|
Pretty hype. I can't wait for subs :D
|
So, as expected/feared: Mystical science sparkle sparkle, hero comes back to live, no consequences. Fuck this shit. I want to like it at least a bit because it reminds me of Back to the Future with the Tridoron charge and all, but it still sucks. I'm absolutely disappointed with this.
Type Tridoron looks decent, I kinda like how the Tridoron disassembles and becomes armor. The only real cool thing I generally liked about this was that Krim could take control of the body and the suit actor being able to reflect this change with his body language. Seiji Takaiwa at his best again, this guy is fantastic. The composed tire of Flare, Shadow & Spike looks pretty cool, hope they make more of these. But I hate how he had to use that stupid Formula Canon again for the finish. A good Rider Kick accompanied by the effects of the three tires would've been much better. All in all pretty decent, chance to do something really great consciously ignored, more of the same, nothing really stands out. |

It's not the Formula Cannon, by the way. Its name is the Trailer Cannon. He used Shift Speed in it this time, so it was technically the Speed Cannon. And I liked the ending attack with the Trailer Cannon. Why? Because watch very carefully. That's not an energy Tridoron he shot. Type Tridoron uses Tridoron for its armor. He reverted to Type Speed and shot the actual Tridoron at Freeze! |
Type tridoron is awesome! I love that belt san can takeover and the whole tire kakimazeru thing

I'll wait for subs to clear the situation up, it just looked like the typical resurrection for me. |
Drive has been an absolute blast. This episode was amazing, showed a lot for the secondary cast and Type Tridoron has to be one of the coolest Final Forms yet, in terms of design and movement.
|
I'm getting a lot of Fourze vibes from this, with Shin coming back to life via the Shift Cars, like Gentaro did with the Astro Switches. Shin combined with the Shift Cars as well as the Tridoron itself, like Fourze's Cosmic States needed all 40 (not including Rocket States) astro switches. All in all, it was an excellent episode, and Drive's really starting to pick up. I can't wait to see Episode 34.
The secondary characters really shined in this episode. I love the design of Type Tridoron, looks much better than it did in the scans. |
So is Type Tridoron essentially W? Two souls, one body sorta thing? Kinda hard to tell with no subs
|
W in that it's two personalities in one
Kiwami in that he has all the fruit/car powers |

It's subbed now by the way. http://over-ti.me/releases/kamen-rider-drive-33 |

Very good episode. There was a lot of cool stuff with the supporting cast that really did make it feel like the show was taking Shinnosuke's death seriously and not rushing to his revival. It reminds me a lot more of when this happened on Kuuga than Fourze, since you have time to see all of the fallout. I really like how Nira seems to be folding into the main cast, too; he's been a major pain in the ass, but it's cool to see him coming around and helping out... -ish.
I liked the resolution of the Gou plot, too. The show did a nice double bluff there, with him obviously being brainwashed but Chase trying to comfort Kiriko by lying and saying that he was secretly undercover... only for him to actually be secretly undercover. Did not see that one coming. It really raised my respect for Gou... until he threw a hissy fit and almost tossed Brain's tablet into the river. Stay moronic, my friend. As for Type Trideron... meh. I'm not really feeling it. The bottom part is so solid that it reminds me of pajamas and the helmet is awful. If it had cool powers that would be one thing, but the composite tire gimmick looks really dumb (and I honestly thought the show had abandoned tire changes months ago). I did like its debut fight overall, though. I am so happy with how this show has been evolving. I think I've hit the point where most of the stink of the first half is washed off for me and I am legitimately enjoying the show a lot now. |
It's a little strange hearing the Krim talk out of the belt when he is doing the tire call outs but then swapping in to the human body for speaking lines.
...I breaks the logic for me. why swap when you can just say it now! The plot with gou is so stupid that I actually enjoy it. "Oh sorry guys I was just faking it so I could talk to Siri on this iPad...I didn't mean to let people get killed, I guess it wouldn't have hurt to let you know what I was doing" Lol...really? I'm glad the show is officially off the toy product phase of its run and back to trying to contuine a story each week |
Huh. With subs, the revival process actually made a fair bit more sense...
That said. One thing really bothers me: "I transformed right before the explosion. That's how I saved Kiriko. But let me give you a closer look." WHAT? The only form he'd have available to him is Tridoron itself. And transforming into Tridoron requires assimilating the car. So how in the hell did he transform if the car was still intact and on fire? I guess it's possible he could have removed the Tridoron Shift Car and quickly replaced it with Speed; I can believe that the act of him canceling his Transformation dissipated the fire, but how then did he protect her from the flames if he didn't have any other shift car abilities available to him? |

Good episode,
|
I loving it! This episode blow me away!
I smelling that Shinnosuke and Kiriko end up as couple! Because they're partner and Kiriko was devastating when Shinnosuke was killed by Freeze. Was everyone shock that Gou was not affected by Freeze's ability and was actually undercover which Chase lie to Kiriko which is actually becoming THE TRUTH! Next Episode will reveal who is the REAL killer of Shinnosuke's dad. Not Freeze because he have someone to kill Shinnosuke's father for him and I put my money on Nira being the killer of Eisuke Tomari! Because nobody love him. They're hate him for being jerk to Special Crimes Unit especially Shinnosuke and He end up being fused with Brain. I give this episode 10 smile of 10 smile :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |
Well, this episode was okay really. 001's death was so quick, makes me think the shows gonna go down the same hole it was at before 25. Sure next week we get to see the real murderer, but I don't know.
Type Tridoron is an okay looking form, it'll be nice to see where they take Krim and Tomari from here. |
Pretty decent. Not really a fan of resurrection plots, especially when they feel kind of ham-fisted, like this one was. Let's try and see what happened:
Shinnosuke 'dies', somehow they don't do an autopsy on him to discover cause of death. Team comes up with a way to jump-start both Shinnosuke and Krim through making the Tridoron go fast and the introduction of a new toy. Gou gets an equation that will actually make it work. Explosions, Sparkles, confusing explanation. Is Sinnosuke's mind digitized, like Krim and Banno's? Is he now a cyborg? Can he take the belt off? And this is what, episode 33? How many episodes are going to be in this season? Minimum of 42 is what I'm guessing, maximum of 52. Problem is, I can't see them stretching it out to 52. We've hit the home stretch, and the current plot-line is resolving the murder of Shinnosuke's father. Strictly speaking, we only know why he was killed: because he learned of the Roidmuude's existence rather early on. However, everything else has yet to be established. We formerly knew that Shinnosuke's father was killed in the line of duty by being shot in the back, but now none of that is true thanks to the revelations of 001. We don't know who done it, and we don't know how. But that might take only 2 episodes to wrap that plotline up, landing us at ep. 35, with a minimum of 7 episodes left. Fortunately, I'd say that that is enough space to take care of the 3 remaining major roidmuudes. My greatest fear is that there will be a random major roimuude that shows up late in the series whom we've never heard of before, but is mysteriously more powerful than Freeze was, making for a tougher fight. And we have 9 episodes left, bare minimum. I fear for filler. |
Ah yes, I love a good Den-O twist.
ShinnoKrim was a nice touch, particularly in the change of visor between both. Type Trideron is also that same flavor of Den-O twist. Actually, I almost thought it was DenLiner form. Kinda bland when compared to Kiwami Arms Gaim, or Fourze Altered States. However, that shift car is nice. |

Wouldn't Shinnosuke in reality be in a coma instead of being labeled "dead" when Mr.Belt fused with him.

I think this is the first time they have done a " resurrection " episode where the one coming back is technically not dead.
One change to the formula at least. So, disturbing part that will likely have some negative sides to it later, Tomari and Krim are now fused, an interesting final form where two character control it ala W, but something tells me this will have an effect as we go into the last story arc. The final form is both solid and by the looks of it, quite powerful within the Drive setting, overall it does feel like they just copied Fourze for the final form including its power setup, though I assume this was decided not by the writer but by the people designing the toys. Chase is kinda becoming the weekly meat (( metal )) shield by the looks of it though. Seems there will be another reveal next week, though I think I already know what will happen. |
Ok I get to give my .02 :)
A really well done episode. I actually think they could have milked this story to 3 eps though...but that is just me. I like how they worked with all the secondary characters to really give that added characterization. The plot got advanced in a big way without feeling too forced. If the last few were second gear, than we are now shifting to third! With the fight...I liked how the suit actor switched fighting styles with the personality changes, it gave that added touch... Also I don't think they are fused unless they are in the final form. I say that because initially there was no face on the Belt, but after the fight, it seemed he was back there. |
Well, we know how fusing with something during combat ended in " Blade "
|
My gut is telling me that the murderer is either going to be a member of the special investigations unit based on the coat seen at the end of the preview(Hope it is not Honganji) or it will be someone that is close to Tomari or the rest of the department, such as Nira. I don't think that any of the Roidmudes would do it outside of maybe Heart, but something tells me he is not a part of it. Banno might be behind it, revealing that he is the true villain of the series, but I think that 001 just worked with the murderer to cover what was done. What do you all think?

This was a great episode, but I really thought 001 was going to be the final villain. Does anyone else find it creepy how Mr. Belt takes over Shinnosuke when he is not transformed?
|
I know we're supposed to believe Krim is this really nice guy, but I really don't like the way Shinnosuke's eyes glow when he takes over... Just seems to intentionally be ominous.
Also somewhat surprised Freeze bit the dust already. He essentially took the spot I'd figured Heart would as the first general to die, given the general formula for recent years (he's even the right color haha). |

Anyone else think that either medic or heart will be the final villain? |
