This was a fun episode. Although it is kind of sad that the dad doesn't get to be a full ninja, it was pretty amazing when he got a tornado out. The umbrella/pen Yokai was also a cool design and their indirect ninja plan was funny.

Definitely high on my best episodes of the season list. Very heartwarming, and not too over the top. All the focus was on the YOTW (Youkai of the Week), which made it less messy.

It's definitely getting better. I like the new General, this bad buddha priest guy. He's got brains instead of the previous one's brawn.

Also, anyone else think that the dad will eventually become something like a SilverNinja, or a 7th ranger for the series?

Probably not. The series made it pretty clear that he doesn't actually have powers, at least none that he can control.

But that doesn't mean that he can't lend the occasional hand, like Swan did in DecaRanger...?

so, I finally caught up and can definitely say, this is a really fun show. :)

If he could ever control his powers, yes. But as he can't... probably not really. Swan could use her powers when ever she wanted to and she did when it felt necessary.
Tsumuji can't just call his powers. They are there when he really needs them, but he couldn't just join the fight whenever he feels like it.

Wait, is Tsumuji just like his son? Can't do anything in practice, but once on the field, it somehow works?

No. Takaharu sucks at technique and is most effective when he fights.
Tsumuji does know the technique, but has little to no powers to use. So far, when he saved his children in this episode, it was the only time where he could actually properly perform a ninja skill.

I think they could bring him back.
maybe in later episodes we'll have some cool gramps and father teamup fights, who knows?
but for now I'm happy everyone's favorite awkward ninja dad got to have a turn in the spotlight.

Loved this ep - was very touching and heart-warming. We need more episodes like this.

Crazy theory : gramps sealed the Shuriken of the End into dad, and that's what is blocking his nintality.
