Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, 20 Years Later
Just found out via the official Power Rangers Twitter account, today is the 20th Anniversary of the theatrical release of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie!
What were your favorite characters/scenes/quotes from this iconic movie? |
I was wondering why the movie was all over my Twitter feed :lol My favorite scene has to be Adam learning his Ninja Power is the frog and being all depressed about it. And then she kisses his forehead "Yes, a Frog. Like the kind that turn into a prince". I loved that.
|
Really? That's pretty neat.
I remember loving the CGI in that movie. I was stupid :p |
Umm... Honestly I can't think of anything.
Other than when the Falconzord acted as a bridge for a train. |

Loved the movie as a kid. I remember renting it from Hollywood Video and watching is at least 3 times a day. Still dig the suits that used.
|
God...even when I was younger I remember thinking the CG zords and monster fights were awful even for mid-1990s standards.
Still...I did like the suits being actual armor, and some of the fights were good. Adam's ad-libbed "I'm a frog." line still the most memorable line. |
Watched it last night along with RangerCommandPowerHour's commentary of the movie, excellent way to rewatch.
Id say my favorite part is all the total 90s aspect of it. Also, Dulcea. |
The first saw the movie with my dad back in 1995. I was four years old and I love MMPR at the time. My mom was going to give birth to my little sister soon and my dad wanted to take me to a movie. The movie was a lot of fun and I haven't seen it in ages. I'm glad that Power Rangers is taking shot on being on the big screen again. This movie was ahead of its time since the movie came out 12 years before Transformers and they didn't know how to make giant robots in CG at the time.
The CG in this movie was bad even back in 1995. The Lawnmower Man in 1992 had better looking CG then this movie did and that movie's CG was a step down to Terminator 2's CG (which came out a year earlier). |
I loved all those sweet ass flips bro.
|
This movie may have been all kinds of bad, but for kid me back then, it was the best. :D I think the movie represented the climax of my Power Rangers fandom as a kid. After that, interest gradually started to wane before it died out in Season 3.
This movie definitely holds a most important place in Power Rangers history. Here's an oldie but goodie, a behind-the-scenes look into the production of the MMPR movie: THE ORIGINAL MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS MOVIE FACT FILE |
I remember when my next door neighbor gave me this movie when I was a little kid. It's what eventually got me into Power Rangers.
|
AJJ's magnitude of hotness was beyond all normal recognition/imagination in this. This movie furthered my crush I had on her when I was a youngster lol.
Also, Ivan Ooze was a one-liner machine. Definitely made the movie epic as hell. |
One of my favorite lines from the move was when Ivan walks into the Command Center and says. "Ohhhh, pretty fancy-shmancy, but that's what you get when you invest your money for 6 thousands years." Or something like that. One of my favorite scenes is that same scene, but when Alpha tries to karate chop Ivan.
|
I also remember when I saw the movie in theaters, the theater was pretty empty. I remember seeing the movie during the afternoon with my dad and we where like the very few people in theater along with three or four other people.
|
I saw Turbo in the theatres.... I know, not really related, but you mentioned theatres and....
|
The movie had cool happy meal toys. I remember each ranger came with their own zord which was awesome.
|
Yeah. They were cool. I liked the little Morpher the best.
|
I never got to see it in the theaters. Always regretted that.
|
90s CGI is absolutely HORRIBLE!
|
It was an awesome movie back then, and is still one that I enjoy. Though I don't recall seeing it in theaters... so as unlikely as it is, I kinda hope some local theaters bring it back for just a couple of showins leading up to the new movies release.
|
I do want to see a blu-ray release of the original MMPR movie when the new movie comes out in 2017. I remember Fox re-release both movies on DVD in 2013 for MMPR's 20th anniversary with different packaging on DVD from what I can remember.
