Should Power Rangers have a male Pink Ranger?
Does anyone think Power Rangers should have a male Pink Ranger?
With a lot of men wearing pink nowadays, I think it could work as long as the character isn't gay or effeminate. A gay/effeminate male Pink Ranger would be seen as promoting gay stereotypes, which is only suitable for a series rated TV-MA. Two of my Power Rangers fanfiction teams (Power Rangers Fairy Magic and Power Rangers Global Force) have male Pink Rangers as the leaders of the teams and neither of them are gay. |
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that pink is your favorite color. Nothing wrong with that. And just a little tidbit of info, as a gay man, I hate the color Pink. I also hate Purple. Granted I love Kyoryu Purple/Violet, but only because of her dinosaur. I also hate any colors that are variants or shades thereof the previously mentioned colors.
But a str8 male Pink Ranger would be interesting to see done. |
Nokaman, my pet project Sentai, has a male pink. Heck, the only reason he's pink is because his suit motif and mecha is a pig.
And he's also about as effeminate and camp as the squid in a trucker cap from Squidbillies. |
I just don't see it going over well, especially in Power Rangers.
Do recall that at one point Bandai tried to pass off the Dino Charge Triceratops Zord as purple. Personally I'd rather see more female blues, but that's another subject entirely. |
Nah.

MPR, on another side note, do you know what kind of can of worms you may have opened? Just thought I'd ask. *chuckles*
|
I don't know how well it'll work in Power Rangers, but as an idea I don't think it's too bad. As long as they don't play into bad stereotypes it should be fine as any colour.

Personally no offense but I say no because well usually pink rangers get the shaft on power rangers because they are either damsels in distress, annoying, or just plain rude/crazy. (Btw i hate that pink rangers are treated badly. Just saying so i don't get called a sexist.)That and if their was one he'd most likely be gay and Saban would be getting a lot of hate from any homosexual male viewers.
|
I don't think we'll ever see a Pink Ranger be leader of the team (at this point it's Sentai tradition that Red is the leader). I would dare say we'll get a female Red before we get a Male Pink. Just because in the US the color pink is now seen as a gender neutral color thanks to social activism, in other cultures pink is still seen as a feminine color.
aka - if Sentai doesn't do it, USA won't do it, and the question of whether or not Sentai will do it will depend on where their social activism is currently in regards civil rights regarding gays and lesbians. |
Only if the footage has a male pink ranger, which will never be the case.
BTW, Kickback, Time Pink was the leader of the Timerangers. :lol Oh, and there already was a red female. |
I'm not sure whether they'd be willing to provide a proper male pink (and seriously, the pink ranger being gay is such a stupid idea that even they wouldn't trip into it) but we have had temporary male pinks in Sentai; Right, Tokatti and Hikari all changed lines into pink on multiple occasions and the male Gokaigers went pink once, although I don't think they adapated that change into Super Megaforce.
|
The real test will come when/if ToQger is adapted into Power Rangers. When they changed lines the male characters shifted to yellow and pink. That might be as close as we get to ever seeing it happen.
|
I don't think Power Rangers will ever have a male pink because I can't see Super Sentai having a male pink. The line changes in ToQGer were as close as we might ever get.
|
And in truth, I would not have any issue with a male Ranger who is gay; I just would have an issue if they were to make him a Pink Ranger. If Power Rangers were to have a gay Ranger, I would prefer him to be either a Green Ranger or a Black Ranger. The reason is because a gay Green or Black Ranger would get more focus than Green or Black Rangers normally do.
So, in summary:

An extra ranger who only lasted a few episodes and most of her appearances were focused on how much her teammates thought she sucked as a leader compared to her male counterpart. |

I dont see it happening for a long time. Sentai footage recently has Red focused more and more. Even so, this is a kids show, mainly a boys show. No matter what progress going on, no way Bandai/Saban Brands approves past the basics we have had forever. I mean it took fans causing an uproar to change a TOY to its actual color, pink. As long as the show is considered a tradition boys show, we wont have a male pink ranger. MAYBE a female red as a main character, maybe.
But a male pink? Nope. |

I think a male pink ranger would work, but not as the leader. If they made a pink male team leader it would lose a lot of child fans.
|
I can see them testing this before going forward with it. Having an extra Ranger with pink and another color.
Then again, Toei has shifted Super Sentai incredibly in to the "This is 100% a kids program" category. The heads there may deem a male pink as something too controversial to put in children's programming. |
My answer is no.
|
I guess it would be fine if it were a comedy centered season to introduce the possibility.
I mean, Dairanger hinted that a male could be Hououranger, but it's been so long since then. |
No... I don't see the point or need of a male Pink Ranger. I can't imagine such a character being treated like anything more than a joke for the entire time they were there.
If the entire series was a comedy... maybe... but then I want the sixth Ranger to have a plaid uniform with a kilt and a bagpipe for a weapon. |
Normally I'd be all about equality in color choice but I think Power Rangers needs MORE female characters, not less.

That was never the question. The matter of jokes we were talking about was that it was a bad thing that they are using the color associated with women. And thats something ToQ never did because they dont have to treat their audience like that. |
If Sentai does a male pink, then absolutely adapt it to be a male. Do I want to see them try to turn a female pink into a male pink? Absolutely not. The fact that they turned Boi into a girl for MMPR is kind of stupid, and it would be even stupider if they did it in reverse.
Would I like to see it though? Sure. They just need to make sure the suit is designed well. We have been conditioned to see pink as a girly color for so long now, making it easy for it to still look feminine. Do I see it ever happening? No, not really. |
Sure!

I don't think is gonna happen.
