Kamen Rider Gaim Gaiden 2 - Poll and Discussion
Ryouma! Zack! New villains! New stories! And more dancing.
|
I have to say it was a lot better than the Zangetsu/Baron movies, and those were still very good.
Duke's Movie: - First thing's first: I'll probably never look at pomegranates the same or even eat them for that matter. You'll see what I mean when you watch it lol. - I know there is debate on what is considered "dark" on this board, but watch this movie and tell me otherwise, again you'll see what I mean. - It was nice to see some flashbacks of how Ryoma met his fellow Energy Riders. With that being said, I feel like there's no need for Yoko or Sid to get their own movies (as much as I'd love them to) because in these flashbacks, we see what kind of people they were before becoming Riders. Unless they think of a good story, otherwise it would be redundant. I liked Sid's flashback because it pretty much is in line with his motivation to get the Golden Fruit in the series. Knuckle's Movie: - Takes place after the events of Movie Wars: Full Throttle - We get more flashbacks such as how Team Gaim and Team Baron first crossed paths, how Kaito became leader, etc. - We get cameos from our favorite secondary Rider characters who just happen to appear in the nick of time. - I never liked the design of Maron Arms, and after seeing it in action I still don't like it. - Seems Neo Baron is some kind of Fight Club - The civilian and Rider fight scenes were very brutal but Zack really got to hold his own (surprisingly), and in the process we get flashbacks of Zack and his life before Team Baron. - There is a specific scene between Zack and Peko that I know you crazy shippers are gonna blow way out of proportion. That scene is more of a brotherly love and they make it obvious that Zack and Azami (Peko's sister) have feelings for each other. All in all 2 very good movies, can't wait to see what they do with Gaim Gaiden 3. Plus the song "Dance with Me" is absolutely great. |
So are subs out yet or no? from clips I've seen it looks good but plot wise I have idea. anything is better than the first movie where the motivations were pretty much nothing.

Anyone know where the RAW's are?

I have the money on Blu-Ray. I will probably watch it RAW tonight on my PS4 until subs are out.

So it seems that a third Gaim Gaiden may be in the works. Similar to the first 'season/volume' those who purchased either Duke or Knuckle were linked to a questionnaire asking which Riders they'd like to see in a potential third feature: Kurokage, Marika, Gridon, Bravo, Ryugen, Jam, and/or Gaim.
They're pretty much milking a great series dry and need to end it. I loved Gaim but it's almost been 2 years so it needs to die off. But if I had to choose, I'd like to see a Gaim Gaiden for Jam. It would be an interesting choice as we only know about Kougane is (mainly) from the summer film so it'd be good to look into its past or its journey for revenge. There isn't really much more you could delve into for the other choices since either the other Gaidens or the series have pretty much given them enough details about them or their past. |
How are they milking the series? Two spinoff movies and the normal crossover is like to much to bear isn't it?

Gaim has become the new Den-O where they are milking it after the show ended. I won't mind one more Gaim direct to video special.

-The black and white flashbacks are so tacky. Unnecessarily so. Speaking of, these weren't the best flashbacks. Sid's in particular was kinda random and the other two meetings weren't particularly exciting either.
-Why does Takatora's Driver not have the right sounds? Seriously, I don't even know what that was but it sure wasn't "Soiya!" Weird. Anyway, Duke Gaiden wasn't terrible or anything, just kind of...uninteresting. I don't really feel like it offered a whole lot. -Knuckle's opens with a shoehorned romantic interest. Jeez. Yeah, Gaim Gaiden, Zangetsu's wasn't enough. I mean, thankfully they don't focus on her that much, but it's still totally unnecessary. There really isn't anything she did that other members of the cast couldn't have done. -"Let's move Zack to New York! So we can make him go back to Japan after three minutes! Yeah!" -Man Mitchy must have pulled that briefcase from Helfheim or something. Also, where did he come from. Also, why aren't the Kureshimas fighting against these guys again? -Well that's stupid. Jimber Marron has kind of a Ryugen Yomi thing going on and they didn't bother repainting the back of the helmet. Looks dumb. --D...did they just kill Zack? For this crap gaiden? It's unclear, but the fact that the possibility is even there is dumb. Man...Knucle Gaiden is just kinda pretty dumb. |

Basically each of the normal Lockseed's have a different noise instead of "Mix!" if their slotted in the Genesis Core when attached to the Sengoku Driver. The noise that the Watermelon Lockseed makes, is "YOH!" which is exactly the same sound effect used in this Gaiden, for some reason... that's my little tidbit of the day. Anyway Duke's Gaiden was interesting... though there was one line they said that made me wish it could have been different. Takatora and Ryoma talking about how they used to traverse Helheim together back in the day, I would have totally killed for a story with a fresh Takatora and Ryoma, with little to no combat skills, fighting for survival when first exploring Helheim. We still would have gotten Lemon Arms out of it, and it would have been a nice precursor to the show. With Ryoma eventually realizing that he needs to make stronger belts (AKA The Genesis Driver) once they run into a very powerful Inves. It would be past the evolved state, but nowhere near the Overlord state. Knuckle's Gaiden was enjoyable, more enjoyable than Duke's was for me. The romance bit was a tad forced, and when we first got confirmation this was happening I didn't think we'd get Jinba Marron. I honestly thought Zack would have gotten to use Banana Arms if this was in the middle of the series. Or that if it was after the series he would just become a Black Baron. Needless to say I got my wish of Black Baron so there's that. I did enjoy Jinba Marron though, I thought it was cool to see Zack finally get a form that can give him the power to match stronger opponents. That ending was really ambiguous though. They couldn't just have a scene at the end where Zack wakes up in the hospital and has a touching moment with Peco and his Sister? To wrap this long post up, if we were to get a new Gaiden, I would want it to be Jonouchi. If only because I found the moment in the finale where he took the mantle of Kurokage to be touching. And while Gridon would be fun to bring back, I'd prefer it if Jonouchi became Kurokage again to take up the mantle permanently, maybe even use Matsubokkuri Energy to get a Jinba Form too. |
Duke Gaiden....
Well, that was a lot of bromance. Doesn't matter though. I just watched for Minato. mmmm.....Minato. Knuckle Gaiden.... I actually thought it was quite good. It's what I imagine a real life Street Fighter would look like. (Fun fact, apparently that beefy dude Zach goes up against is an actual K-1 fighter. I think I'd wet myself.) I would agree about confusion over what the point of sending him to So You Think You Can Dance was in New York, other than having a real Kevin Bacon PTSD moment. I did not however feel confused about the ending. He lived, which is why he's dancing by himself at the end. Also Baron is off on his dance timing, so I know it's a dream. Baron never effs up the timing. Overall Zach was one of my favorite characters other than Oren who got just enough fight time for me to squee, and a little Micchy time, who I still love to hate to love. The moral I got from this story is don't be afraid to dare to dance for your dream to punch people. That's a lesson we all can learn. |
If you've been able to use this website without noticing how much I don't like the first Gaim Gaiden I applaud you. So as you can expect I went into this with the lowest of expectations, expecting to watch the same painful cash grab as the first was. However I am genuinely surprised at what I got out of this!
The Duke half is actually genuinely good, and by a country mile the best of the four Gaidens. Unlike the Zangetsu one it managed to cover some of the untold backstory without raising further questions that will never be answered. Though the villain had a rubbish kit bash of suits, the backstory made a reasonable amount of sense and felt like a good tie in with how Ryouma works. The Sid and Minato flashbacks were well done, and Lemon Arms looked great. Very happy with how this turned out. Knuckle on the other hand is ridiculous, but the kind of ridiculous you can sit down and laugh at how genuinely absurd it all is. Shura gets kicked off Team Baron by Kaito, then turns up a year later practically idolising him, starts a fight club and then pulls out plans to build a giant laser?! It's super dumb, but the whole thing is shot in a way thats meant to make it feel all dark and super meaningful. The link between this and the Duke Gaiden was nice, but was only there so they could pull a really weak "here's some more Drivers" explanation out of thin air. Micchy suddenly pulling out a driver with some fancy new Lockseeds was just as weak. Black Baron was pretty uninspired, and Jimber Marron is easily the ugliest concoction Gaim has ever produced. Its a hideous suit. Kaito makes me laugh so much though. Him just joining the team and going "mine now" is priceless :lol So yeah, better than the first two but still not enough to make me want more of these. At this point the only Gaiden I want to see made is a Kougane one because he's the only character that I think has any sort of interesting story to tell. Well, the others do too but not ones that can have new toys shoehorned into them. |
Watched it today and I enjoyed it a lot. This Gaiden is definitely much better than the first. While Gaiden Baron was completely irrelevant and uninteresting and Gaiden Zangetsu was just not good both Duke and Knuckle Gaiden are fantastic.
They both tell stories worth telling and they make sense independently and together. Duke’s half was very interesting as it gave me what I was always craving for while watching Gaim – more back story for the New Generation Riders. I mean yeah, we only get two short flashbacks for Yoko and Sid, but they work. And Ryoma gets a lot of focus (as he should) and I like that we see him in the phase we’re he hasn’t betrayed Takatora yet but knows he has to do it eventually. The action was generally good, they got around the crappy looking Zakuro-suit by exclusively using it in a dark and moody setting which made it work. You could still see the individual components bashed together without sense, but it looked good because of the setting and the nice shine they gave to the armor. I also wasn’t really excepting to see Lemon Energy being used so I was really satisfied when Ryoma did use it in the end, and the cinematic shot at the end with all the New Generation Riders was drop dead gorgeous. Simply amazing. Knuckle’s story was nice as it gave the character a fitting epilogue. Yes Shura is kind of stupid, especially after he played the James Bond-villain with his city destroying machine, but he was there so that Zack could get more development and I enjoyed that. The story makes sense for him, and the flashbacks were really interesting and well done. The action was good again, especially in the rain. Nothing breathtaking but still nice. What I loved most about this part however was that we still saw the old gang even though I didn’t expect them. I physically applauded when Oren got into the action and when we saw Micchy again. Only to deliver the ex-machina Driver, but hey. And the end was again perfect. Zack having his imaginative dialog with Kaito and dancing to the music of the end-credits. Pretty cool. So if anyone’s asking me I’m fine with more if it’s on this level or even better. Honestly, I really need a Bravo Gaiden before they stop. Oren as a character and Metal Yoshida as an actor deserve their very own story. |
Duke was kind of boring, but it was still okay. Knuckle was great! The story was so good and I'm glad that took place after Gaim. I wish Kaito's Genesis Driver was still working so Zack could use Marron Energy Arms.

These were pretty good. I would have preferred if Duke's was set a little earlier so we got more use out of Lemon and it just ended on him making Lemon energy (him breaking out the form we already saw in the series to finish off was a little underwhelming) but the plot was pretty nice.
It was nice to have something set right at the end and I do like Knuckle so it was cool to see what he got up to. The plot was alright but could do with being a bit more condensed (seriously, what was the point of that weird death-machine?) and the ending was kind of strange. |
Duke Gaiden: Eh, was alright. Nice enough mystery, not enough explanation as to how the guy made a Genesis Core out of nothing, but I didn't expect it. Cool seeing Sid and Yoko show up again, wish they'd done more, but with no drivers for them, what are they supposed to do?
Knuckle Gaiden: Awesome. Plain and simple (if crazy) awesome. More Oren and Jonouchi? Awesome. Mitchy as a rider again? Awesome. More Zack, easily the best rider in this whole Gaiden? Awesome. Sure, you could ask questions. How did Kouta not notice Hellheim being back on Earth? How did Shura get a driver? Since when did Peco have a sister? THose question aren't important. What is important is that Kamen Rider Knuckle is back... Or he was until he died. :( But seriously, this was an improvement over last time. Gaim isn't as close to me as it once was, but it was a good ride seeing all the characters again, and if they do make a third one, I'll watch it. And I'm sure I'll love it, Unless they kill of more people :p |
Did Zack die since he danced with Kaito in the end? Knuckle's story was more interesting but duke is still a cool rider. I learned a lot of their past now which was cool.

Finally got around to watching this last night. Mental notes:
- I'm serious, when the hell do we get SHF Lemon Arms? That thing was gorgeous in motion, then again, I just love seeing rapiers in action. - Tsunenori Aoki absolutely nailed the Mad Scientist face. http://i.imgur.com/I93h48fl.png - I want a Gaiden of Micchy going around hunting down remnants of Yggdrasil. - Speaking of, I don't see where everyone's getting the "they're pulling Drivers out of their asses". He said that there are rogue ex-Yggdrasil scientists out there producing more. There is an in-universe source. As for where all the Lockseeds are coming from... I have to assume there were other labs within the organization elsewhere in the world working on the project that would have received samples to work with. - I don't understand why people think Zack died. Kaito was a hallucination or at most, a ghost. We've all seen Star Wars, come on people! |

I finally got to finish watching Knuckle's part of the movie. I like how they repainted SaGoZo's arm pieces for his Sparking/Au Lait abilities.
|
Well that was certainly... something.
Veeeery mixed feelings on this one. And it seems the consensus here matches my feelings on this one. The Duke Gaiden was alright but it felt kinda slow. I was never that big a fan of Ryouma so I was a tad surprised he got his own Gaiden. I dunno what it was but I just wasn't all that invested in it. Maybe it was because I wasn't too big a fan of Ryouma, maybe it was too dry and dark for my taste, kinda like the Pre Den-O seasons, or maybe I'm just weird. Eh, I dunno. But I loved the Lemon Arms Jingle. Freakin' of course Ryouma would have his say Incredible Ryou~ma! As for the Knuckle Gaiden... well it was balls to the wall crazy I'll give it that. For what it's worth I liked this more than the Duke Gaiden since this did a better job of drawing me in. But a lot of it was ridiculous yet I can't say it's bad. There were a lot of good moments like Zack's struggle to live up to Kaito's ideals. I mean minus the whole destroy the world part. The fight scene in the rain was unique since I can't recall the last time KR has done that. On top of that we learn why Zack started dancing, which was something I was hoping for. The things I didn't like though... well a distinct lack of Jonoichi for one. Don't get me wrong, he's there but he's not there enough if you know what I mean. I was hoping his screen time would mean as much as Yoko's did in the Duke Gaiden. What else... Jimber Marron Arms was not something I was a fan of. I didn't like the spiked half sphere fists and I hated the torso design. The whole Jimber Torso part only suits the Riders who's designs were Japanese in origin. like Gaim or the rumored Zangetsu Jimber Melon. Knuckle was what, a Medieval themed Rider I think. I wasn't too crazy on the design clash. Marron Energy Arms would've been a better choice in arms (Heck the toy shows it's got cooler sounds). It could've been a way to up Zack's power without looking completely weird. Also Zack may have died... damn. Oh and the ending song Dance With Me, love it, love it, love it. Not as good as Unperfected World or Lights of My Wish, but damn is it catchy. Now for my take on a potential Gaim Gaiden 3 I'm fine with it so long as we get Gridon and Marika for the next two. Those two had longevity without a whole lot of screentime. Okay maybe Yoko got a decent amount but shaddup I'm trying to make a point here. Plus they could both use a new lockseed. I smell Himawari Arms for Gridon and Peach Arms for Marika. However I am fine with Marika getting scrapped if it's for a Ryugen Gaiden, but only if the Gaiden is sort of a brothers reconciliation story with Takatora and they're off hunting Yggdrasil remnants. That sounds awesome. It'll probably be less awesome if they go with Jimber Dragon fruit Arms for Ryugen's Gaiden form. But yes, join me in campaigning for Marika/Gridon for Gaim Gaiden 3! |

*Peko and Azami run to him* Cue "Za-ku? Za-ku! Za-ku!" Zack closes his eyes and goes limp Then there's the whole hallucination thing with Kaito, who's kinda... dead. Look I'm not saying Zack did die, but I'm not saying he didn't. All I got was what I typed up. I'l just take it as ambiguous for now. |
I don't think a Gaim Gaiden 3 is going to be made. To much time has past already.
