Episode 031 - Second to Last Episode
1 Attachment(s)
The clock continues to tick on the time left for the Talkin Toku Podcast. Please join Chris/Kickback, Jordan/Den-O, Tom/Sentai Tamashii, and special guest host Eric/Trekkieb47 for an episode that works more or less as a prelude to the final episode of Talkin Toku. This brand new episode features commentary on the epic Triplet Meltdown from the actors that portrayed the character Trey of Triforia. We discuss how everything tokusatsu sucks right now (is anyone seriously watching and/or enjoying Ninninger?), comments regarding the actors chosen for the upcoming Power Rangers 2017 Movie, and take a look back at some of our favorite memories of our podcast over the last 2 years. And throughout the entire episode, zero fucks are given. Stay tuned for the very end of the podcast for a preview of what's in store for the final episode of Talkin Toku! Would you like to be part of the final episode of Talkin Toku? Submit a .WAV or .MP3 recording of a message YOU want to send the hosts of the podcast and we'll include it in our final episode! Does Tom know to expect the nudes, by the way?

Another fun episode. It'll be sad to see the podcast go, it's been fun. I'll be sure to try and send in a message for the last show. :thumb:

A): Why is this ending?
B): What "Triplet Meltdown"? |

B. From what I can gather, it seems that the actors for the original Zeo Gold Ranger (the DiFillippo triplets) made a Facebook post bashing some current Power Rangers actors for disrespecting their legacy as the original Gold Ranger (a pretty arrogant and largely unfounded accusation). Drama ensued, and they deleted everything about it (i.e. "ragequit"). Someone with more info is welcome to shed some light on this. |
A. Actually it's because their schedules are getting more and more loaded. So they don't really have the time to make more. Well, they have the time to make them as good as they have been.
B. No earthly clue. |

Is Tokusatsu really suffering? I don't follow Ninninger or any of the current ones heavily (Not at all), but all of this makes it seem like the fandom is dry-heaving at present. Are any of the future offerings worth involving oneself in? |

Dino Charge I can't personally speak to since I won't be able to catch up until Netflix uploads the newer episodes on account of Viacom being a twat. |
I'm sorry but toy-driven or not, still too early to write off Ghost. Most of these neo-Rider shows, and even some past series, need at least until the 15th episode or so to know whether or not its potential will be shown. Even Gaim went through with that since stuff didn't get really interesting until like episode 12.
Right now Ghost has a lot of interesting stuff starting up; Specter's little sister, his apparent connection to Akari, the weird relic-guy's motives, etc. Does it suck that we kinda have to wait to see how things go with these shows before we know if they're gonna be good or not? Yes, but it's not like that's a new thing. |
You might not be able to write off a show entirely, but I don't see why anyone should give a show 15 episodes to see whether if it finds its footing or not. Yes it may very likely pick up in the later episodes, but if its failing to grab people before then it's naturally going to lose its audience.
To be honest, I have very mixed feelings about Ghost at the moment. It isn't awful and I do like the fact that the whole "collect eyecons" thing isn't going to be the bulk of the plot, but the new powers every week thing has grown very old very fast. Nothing feels special any more. |

Well, not too long before we start getting them flyer and pamphlet scans for Juohger.
Too bad Ninninger did not live up to some of the pre-show hype(although I personally did enjoy some of the episodes from late summer to this fall). The whole collect all them pokeshurikens didn't catch my interest as much and I feel Star Ninger was introduced too early into the show. Drive in retrospect, felt tad boring during fillers, but felt okay later on as they brought in Kamen Rider Chaser and started wrapping things up. Ghost so far I have no huge complaint overall of the show but still a few: 1. No huge wow factor 2. Some of the stuff feels been there done that(The whole 99 days-to-live thing doesn't really feel original because we had that in 1992 with Zyuranger already and Burai had 1 day, and Tokon Boost, though looks cool, feels like a recycled Hibiki Kurenai). 3. Takenaka feels like he doesn't belong at times despite the fact that he is the guy who gives out them clues and is an awesome actor in his own right(watch the original Japanese Shall We Dance and Sumo Do, Sumo Don't, he was fantastic in those films). So far things that I like about Ghost is Onari and regular appearances of Nishimura Kazuhiko(best Super Sentai lion)as Ryu. The MMPR 2017 film cast looks alright. No complaints. Hope they do their best. Now where's Bulk and Skull. AND ALPHA. |

That and the expense to host it no longer was warranted. Releasing 7 episodes a year but dropping $200+ a year for hosting is not a good financial decision and I refuse to go to a Patreon or a crowd-funding. That's not what we're about. B): The Deflippo Triplets who played "Trey of Triforia" had a meltdown. People now believe it was their page manager (Cody), but either way it was in very very poor taste. |
Alright fine. I'll record something special for you guys. Maybe I'll talk about that time I was supposed to be on the show but Google flaked out on me lol.
