Ninninger Episode 39- "The Son Of Kibaoni Appears!" Discussion
A new challenger approaches- Mangetsu, son of the great Kibaoni General! Is there enough Nintality to defeat him?!
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Kasumi choosing not to go Transcendent was kind of weird but her using it to make a different finisher (and then piloting Shurikenjin by herself without any clones and chaining finishers) was damn cool.
The villain plot was kind of cool but somewhat predictable. |
Mythbuster Confirmed: If the whole series was about Kasumi, it would have been the best series ever.

What's the pun with Mangetsu ? I guess it has something to do with hands giving his apparence.
|
So, wait a second. Shurikenjin was destroyed, that's the whole reason why they have the new one. So how are they able to pilot it still?

This was an okay episode. Mangetsu is just annoying. I hope they destroy him. MomoNinger was awesome especially with the Chozetsu and Gekiatsu sword. I wish she got the Chozetsu armor though.

I liked this episode, but I didn't love it. Mangetsu is an interesting idea for a character, so we'll see where this goes...
My main concern is that... we're less than 10 episodes from the end. I know that most Sentai series' big story beats don't kick into gear until after the Christmas episode, but I definitely feel like we should have a bit more momentum built up by this point. Introducing Mangetsu was a start, and they've been seeding shady doings with Kinji, but I'm beyond ready for some actual story movement. |

I did quite enjoy this episode though. Mangetsu seems like a well-needed addition to the bad guys, and Kasumi eps always prove to be reasonably fun. I don't quite understand how both mecha could be around at once when Pandamaru is supposed to be possessed by Kasumi, but whatever :lol |

It's just... I'm starting to get worried. My appreciation of Ninninger (and kind of any toku show) has always been contingent upon the creators nailing the ending, and the closer we get to it, the more concerned I become that they have the space to do something special. I'll always like the series for its unusual charms, but it won't rank very high in my estimation if the story just peters out. |
As much as I'm not liking the series as a whole, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I'm glad that they kept Kibaoni Mangetsu's true personality a secret in last episode's preview, because the reveal of that along with him utterly destroying Fuuka in the process was great.
Kasumi got some well-deserved character development, as I liked her well enough but always found her to be a bit too much of a know-it-all/I-told-you-so kind of character. Seeing her experience failure that could have had dire consequences was a great change of pace. Her un-henshined fight with Mangetsu was also extremely well-done. Will next week's episode continue this? I personally doubt it, but if the end-game stuff can at least be on par with this, I guess I'll be satisfied enough. |
Heck, even I am starting to get worried about the end game, and i've been defending this series all along. Maybe this episode was the beginning of the end, and Mangetsu is going to finally kick things into gear (he's clearly capable of it).
