I am cautiously optimistic!

Samurai Jack was an amazing show, I'm really excited to see this. Not too surprised by it though, I know they've been wanting to bring it back in some form for quite some time.

It's unfortunate that we won't have the incredible talent of Mako Iwamatsu this time though. Of all the many things I loved about that show, his performance as Aku was at the top.

What I find interesting is the fact that it's gonna be on adult swim. The main target audience for this is gonna be people who watched the original show when they were kids, so going for a slightly more adult take 12 years later seems like a smart choice.

I can't say the news really mean much to me, as I never had the chance to get into Samurai Jack, but I know lots of people have wanted this for a long time, so it's pretty cool.

I'm rather interested in how this will go down~

Curious to see how being on Adult Swim changes what Genndy decides to do with the content, how far he'll be willing to go with the ratings now that he's unhampered by a TV-PG rating.

Pretty sure it's not just gonna be oil and wires getting spilled and sliced through...

Um... I was 19 when SJ came out and it was written way more for adults than it was for kids. It was very cinematic, had some of the best sound mixing out of any cartoon ever, and the stories were very mature. Yes, there were moments for the kids to enjoy, but overall, only those that were much older were going to get the most of that show, especially with episodes like the three blind archers, the 300 spartans, and the one with the shadow ninja.

Then by your logic Avatar, BTAS, and quite a few other shows were written for adults. Because clearly if a show is for kids then it must be written and talk to them like kids. Why challenge their minds or give them genuinely well produced shows that can be targeted for them but also accessible for adult viewing? Heck Dairanger, a show you love is one of the more mature shows in the Sentai world, but it was for kids. Or is that impossible since it dealt with fairly mature themes that are would be beyond children?

Clearly you are the master of media knowledge and marketing for television and production behind shows. I hereby bow down to your excellence.

Thus why I said slightly more adult, I know Samurai Jack is pretty mature to begin with. Anyway, I doubt it was really written more for adults than kids, I assume it was written to be good first of all, with demographics being more of a secondary thing. Regardless, the fact that it was a PG show on Cartoon Network means it was still a show for kids. (i mean, heck, i could say a lot of these things for adventure time but that doesn't make it not a kid's show). And I'd be willing to bet most people who did watch it did it when they were kids even if they didn't necessarily "get it" (though they easily may have).

I mean, I guess. Again, I've never really watched it outside of a few episodes when Netflix had one of the seasons a while ago.

Having watched Samurai Jack as a kid, I really just enjoyed it as a whole. Jack as a stoic and calm hero rather than some action kid, the deeper storylines, even as a kid, it was just so much more than I could've ever asked for~

I am rather curious how the series will proceed now that they can have full blown violence against other people, rather than machines and monsters.

Barn, you should definitely check the show out, or if anything, at least check out the three episodes I mentioned.

As for Dairanger being for kids, yes it was, in Japan. Dairanger would never be allowed to be shown in the US on TV uncut and be geared towards kids.

What makes you think that? Aside from a couple of blood shots (And the sake episode, I guess), there was nothing in Dairanger that was too extreme to show kids.

Anyway, while I am more of a casual viewer of Samurai Jack than an outright fan when the show was on TV at the time, it really does suck that I find out that it didn't a real series finale and I am nevertheless happy that the series is supposedly going to continue, at least for its fans more than anything else, and yet at the same time and I hate to be that person but I'll believe it when I see it. Sorry. :/

There's nothing wrong with that. There's been a lot of nostalgia bait in recent years (Granted it's been more on the gaming side of media, but still) that has had tons of flops as well as successes.
We all have to temper our hopes with caution.

Mako had a aid during Avatar while he voiced iroh. His aid learned his speech partner and speech perfectly when he replaced mako due to his passing he was good replacement and I think he did aku in CN related games

Yeah, at the time Gennedy was planning to do a movie to finish the series off, but then the PPG movie bombed so CN scrapped it. It was strange too because there were a lot of episodes that felt like they were preparing Jack for his final battle.

I definitely think the dude that took his character in Avatar over is the way to go.

Cartoon Network needs to bring back Megas XRL and I will be happy for the rest of my life!

If I recall right, doesn't Dairanger have that drunken fist yellow ranger? While that's a bullshit excuse, as tons of anime have made up the "medicine" excuse to show those fight scenes, I think that was the reason the footage wasn't used (or at least one of them).

Not a fan of such a large time skip, but I'm more concerned that the darker tone won't be too jarring.

The main question is who will voice Aku since Mako is no longer with us.

Don't know if such a huge time skip is necessary really. They could've just picked it up like 1-3 years after the last episode. Or directly after it.

Also it doesn't really need to be darker, the show was already perfect in tone as is.

Probably Greg Baldwin, Mako's understudy who studied Mako’s voice when he was still alive. Baldwind continued the role of Iroh on Avatar after Mako’s death and already voiced Aku once in a videogame.

It's being aim to the people who grew up with the original TV show and it's on Adult Swim now. They probably want it to be darker.
