Future Sentai Themes after Zyuohger
With Zyohger coming after Ninninger, I wonder if it'll be the last sentai... or if it can continue.
For what we know so far is that 4 animal-like humanoids travel to Earth and one human leads them against an spacial outlaw enemy. But what will Sentai do next after Zyohger is successful? |
What makes you think Sentai will end after Zyuohger?

I'm just setting this up poll up. |

How about a damn water themed series for once? The rangers are working with the marines or something and all of their mecha are based on ships and stuff? The monsters can be based on heat that are trying to dry up the environment to turn everything into a giant desert.
|
If time travel was used again, perhaps they'll use the historical figures theme like with Ghost.
Like what if there are rangers who are descendants... even their DNA is connected to anything ancestry. |
I still want a true space theme. A water theme would be awesome; there are plenty of types of sea creatures they could use. Also, knights would be neat.
|
Does this thread really need to be a thing already? It's damn near pointless to speculate on stuff that you don't know about. Waste of time.
|
Greek Mythologies would be good with each mecha/zord being base off of different monsters from greek mythologies. Imagine Super Sentai meets Saint Seiya.
|
I'm pretty sure I've seen this topic at least 5 times on this forum. Anyways...
I still think an insect theme would be cool, (as long as they don't do big bug eyes though, because I don't want a team of Spandex Riders) but now that Dr. Kain mentions it, I'm fully behind that water theme. Also, why is the poll so Rider-centric? |
I'm still hoping for monsters. The series as a whole could have a great variety in the team, zords, and MOTW. By extension, Urban Legends and Mythology could be incorporated.
|
Mismatched themes. I (And probably many others) had a funny little idea of a team of heroes whose themes are wildly different from each others. Like an animal guardian themed hero, a military themed hero, a technology themed character, etc etc.
It gives for a good chance of variety |

Warship theme for once. There was a rumor about it during the airing of Kyoryuger. My hope for it still up to this day.

Super Sentai.....IN SPACE!

And I guess what I'd really like to see is something supernatural. Maybe like Magiranger, but less about benign spells and something that feels more like witchcraft. Maybe mecha or weapons based on the Sephirot or tarot major Arcana? Maybe I've been playing too much Persona, heh. |
Why is the poll titled and modelled after Rider themes?

It would be interesting though, to say the least. I wonder how it would be handled. |

Anyway didn't Zyuranger/Abaranger/Kyoryuger already do prehistoric beasts? If you want to get technical they haven't done "Ice Age" beasts yet, but still. A mismatch one would be cool if they brought warriors from different cultures together ex: One Samurai/Ninja, One cowboy, One knight, One shaolin/monk, One gunsman like a modern day BFJ. |

Jumbled themes would be cool, but have all the mechs be cars or mech versions of the rangers or something |

What if each ranger's suit was based on a different Yokai? For example, there could be a Shisa, a Kappa, a Nurikabe, etc. Well, Nurikabe might be hard, but it could make a cool (or extremely boring) mecha piece. |

Same with Timeranger. People complain that it had no time travel, but it was meant to focus more on the broken heroes, each with their own problems and working for a better tomorrow. |

Cowboy theme. I need that to happen before I die.
And no, StarNinger from Ninninger doesn't count. |
I don't know if Wolf theme Sentai Team is a good idea

Assuming that a group of people are going to act racist is pretty racist in itself.
I think a cowboy theme is too (lack for a better term) western for them to do. Just how people question whether or not ToQ can work for PR, all of those same questions arise in regards to cowboys for sentai. Pretending to be a cowboy isn't really a thing in Japan; that is why Star Ninger and Ninja Black are from America. They stand out as the exception, not the norm. |

Even though pointing out a culture's racist tendencies isn't necessarily racism, he probably shouldn't have been joking about it, as it's a sensitive topic. |
The definition of racism is belief of one being better than the other, but making assumptions based on stereotypes or misguided thoughts is also racism. I honestly think race stuff is only sensitive because we don't talk about it. And when it is brought up, people want to dance around each other and end up pissing each other off; the only way to progress is to admit there is a divide, talk it out, and come to a conclusion how we can close that divide.
Regardless, I still can't see Toei doing an all-out cowboy theme. The cowboy theme barely held up with Star Ninger (who doesn't really do anything cowboy like other than saying "Yee Haw") |
A cowboy theme would be silly because I don't think Japan really ever cared about cowboys. The wild west thing was always, well, a western fad. I don't think it'd interest Japanese kids.

A lot of Japan's stereotypes of Americans (i.e., that we're loud, brash, gun toting, ill-tempered, grizzled, Levi-clad individualists) are rooted in the cowboy archetype, as popularized by early John Ford westerns in particular. Do you think it's coincidence that the only American Sentai heroes have had overt cowboy mannerisms/affectations? Westerns were distinctly not an American fad (look at Spaghetti Westerns, which were written, directed, and produced by Itallians, filmed mostly in Spain, and tuned to European tastes). Even today you see plenty of Japanese takes on the western. Sukiyaki Western Django springs immediately to mind, and I'm certain there are others. Whether modern Japanese children would be interested in Cowboys is another question. But I suspect there is a market, as proven by this year's 6th ranger-- which is traditionally one of the most important and highest selling Sentai product lines of any given year. Bandai wouldn't have allowed a Cowboy 6th if westerns, or at least the idea of them, weren't still somewhat alluring in Japan. |

As from what I've seen when it comes to toys, aside from popular franchises such as Pokémon and Yokai Watch, kids here still really dig cars, or vehicles in general. |
All I meant by that was that it seems like every time an American shows up in Sentai, they're a cowboy. They wear cowboy boots and a cowboy hat and say Yee-haw. Just look at Kinji and Jiraiya. Also, Starninger transforms with a hamburger and his super form wears a poncho. It's like how any time an Asian person shows up in an American show or movie that has any level of action, they either pull out a sword or some mad martial arts skills.
I'm not trying to be offensive, but those stereotypes do show up in entertainment. I'd hate to see an entire show based around the theme of it. Edit: Proof |
But...Richard Brown, and Diane Martin, and Ramirez (...Kinda)...
