S.H. Figuarts Kuuga Renewal. It's simply the definition of a perfect Figuart.
|
To list off my top 3, I think they'd have to be, in no particular order:
SHF Drive Type Speed I dropped Drive early on, with quickly declining interest in it's annoying characters and dull protagonists, but I do have to admit that the Drive suit is a beauty. While I'm not a fan of his later forms, the Type Speed suit just looks lovely. While I don't own it, it's definitely a figure I'd love to add to my collection~ Legacy Saba -Insert mini Tommy and JDF rant- That said, I'm so glad Legacy Saba turned out so well. Coming hot of the heels of my finishing Dairanger, it's so wonderful to have the option of an accurate Byakkoshinken that's better than what both the states and Japan provided some 20 odd years ago. It's a thing of beauty. SHF Doras I loved Kamen Rider ZO. It was interesting and, while not the best, kept my attention well and just a joy. However, ZO's biggest failing is that, design wise, he just wasn't anything special. Especially in comparison to his beautifully designed villain, Doras. I love the guy, and is an amazingly designed kaijin. I'm saddened that I couldn't pick one up, but's definitely on my want list. |
BakurenOh- hey, it was a Toku Toy I got this year! :p
Deinosuchus and Ammonite Zords- because even if they're cheap BoA toys, WE STILL GOT THEM AND THEY ARE EXCLUSIVE TO POWER RANGERS! HAHAHAHA! Jungle Deers- same camp as BakurenOh, but this guy makes the list for being quite decent. Plus we now have an official reference point for quality! Souchaku Henshin Kiva- another "this year for me so HAHAHA!" entry, but aside from how the shoulders work, it's a really nice toy and a good stand in for an ACTUAL Kiva Figuart. [insert meme here] |
I got a bunch of Figuarts this year but only a few actually came out this year. The highlight of those would likely be Baron Mango Arms. The only Baron I've managed to get, but man he's a beauty. Fantastic sculpt and detailing. All the Gaim figures are great, but of the 3 I got from this year (4 if we're counting the Orange Arms rerelease) Mango is the best.
Drive and Mach are both great figures as well, though. And the Ghost Eyecons are fun, whatevs. |
I love the SHF Agito Renewal. Great all around figure, and a outstanding representation of one of my favorite Riders of all time. I also think the DC villain figures deserve a mention. I might not personally own any of them, but they were a very welcome surprise.
|
I didn't collect any of the Drive, Ninnger and Dino Charge roleplay toys. My top three favorites would be (in no order):
S.H. Figuarts Kuuga Renewal S.H. Figuarts Agito Renewal S.H Figuarts Mach I really like SHF of Drive, Mach, Type Wild, Rider #3, Ryugen Yomi Arms and Blue Beet too. Just focusing on the figuarts that I bought that came out in 2015. |
Not in particular order
Figuarts Sangou, almost perfect release, too bad his left leg is a bit longer than his right, it happen in all sangou figuarts I encounter Figuarts Kuuga and Trychaser 2000, such a perfect release it gives 2 things that Kuuga needed, a better figuarts representation, and a Gasgas Pampera bike. Figuarts Maul, words can't describe how good this figuarts is, ofc the movements are a bit limited, but as far as the figuarts goes, it's fairly accurate and almost able to do all of the movement of maul in phantom menace. |
1. DX Shurikenjin. I just love the aesthetic is has. Plus, the whole robot controlling a robot suit is something out of the ordinary and a thing we havent really seen in sentai.
2. Dx Senpuujin. Ordered it December of last year but got it January of this year. I always loved the Hurricanger mecha. Too but that they suffer from crappy plastic issues like clip breakage. |
Shinkocchou Seihou Kuuga. Perfect release, awesome figure.
I really hope we get SS Ultimate Kuuga and N-Daguva-Zeba soon-ish. Second place would go to Ryugen Yomi I think, the weapons are really great and I love that they even included a Kiwi Gekirin. |
I havent bought a ton of toys this year so this will be rather easy.
- SHF Tridoron - SHF Drive - SHF Mach So, done :lol |
Figuarts chaser
Figuarts new kuugs Legacy blade blaster Dino charge plesio zord I'm sure mach would be on there if i had him. |
SS Kuuga. Both my favorite figure of the year and probably my favorite SS figure overall. Great sculpt, great paint, just an excellent figure all around.
Figuarts Rider 3. This guy was my biggest surprise of the year. I didn't care about him initially, but after looking at galleries of him and getting him in hand myself he's amazing. His design is the perfect representation of a modernized, updated Showa aesthetic. His color scheme is striking as well, and the jet boosters on his belt make for some great action shots. Figuarts Drive Type Speed. The Drive suits have been pretty hit or miss for me, but Type Speed was a big hit. The suit itself looks great with the striking red color scheme, and the detailing on his back is excellent. The tire gimmick gives him so many dynamic posing options, and he looks great with all of them. The only drawback to him is his unfortunately sparse set of hands or accessories. |
I haven't bought much in the way of Toku stuff this year, but:
Agito Renewal Kuuga Renewal Hibiki Legacy Tigerzord |
Shodo Vs were a surprise hit for me. I got them knowing they would be fun little figures but I'm really enjoying them and really happy that the line is continuing and they seem to have a plan with where they're going.
I got a fair new new Toku S.H. Figuarts, but topping the list are Chalice and Shadow Moon. Both really great! A little disappointed in some others too, unfortunately. |
Has to be Figuarts Proto-Drive for all the reasons previously mentioned. However, I also think that Figuarts Ryugen Yomi was awesome as well. Hands down my favorite suit from Gaim!
|
Oh, let's see- I did buy some of the new toys instead of mostly getting old ones, after all xD
Figure-wise, there's three SHF to win my heart. Of course Kamen Rider Mach and Drive Type Speed, for all the reasons already mentioned. My third pick is the Broken Helmet Version of Kamen Rider Blade (or Broken Head, as it says on the package, lol). While it is technichally just the same figure as the regular Blade with a darker color and less extras, they just did a pretty amazing job at the cracked helmet and the face- my only two nitpicks with this one are that they could have used an actual metallic paint for the suit instead of just a darker shade of blue (I generally wish they would have been more faithful to the show in that regard with all Blade figures) and they kinda messed up the eyebrows, as they are a bit too thick and have a slightly different shape and angle than those of Takayuki Tsubaki (in that particular scene), so it doesn't look as much like Kenzaki as it could have. But yeah, it's just minor stuff. I didn't really buy a big amount of RPG toys this year (though I've played with some), and the only one I got was the Mach Drive Honooh- which is a December 2014 release, but still amazing. Loud, annoying.... I love it! For collectibles, the DX Shuriken take the cake. I have the Shironinger one and it's beautiful. It doesn't have too many sounds, which that makes you want the Ninja Ichibantou even more (nice marketing strategy), but it's still enough to have some fun with it on its own (for now). Also, I love how it lights up when you activate it. That's about it... as usual, I bought more photobooks (and also Bandai Fashion goods) than actual toys this year ;) |
My top Toku Toy is SHF Drive Type Speed. He's the only toku toy I got this year that waws released this year.
|
I own about none of the toku toys I want but my fave toku toy that I've seen has to be a tie between Lion haoh, Gekiaitsu Dai-oh, and the ghost driver.
|
Everyone seems to be in agreement about drive, but I feel mach is a much better standalone figure, able to do far more by himself. He also has many many more parts than his co-star.
|
I... don't know? Only toku things I got this year were Figuarts.
I guess Mashin Chaser would top it then. But all three Drives guys I got (Drive Speed, Mach) were pretty good. |
I'm pretty much strictly a mecha collector...so my top two faves from this year would have to be the Legacy Tigerzord and DX Shurikenjin (and, from first impressions, I thought I'd hate that figure...but it definitely grew on me).
I keep trying to like the new Sentei mecha (Jyouou King?), but I must say that, for a 40th anniversary line, I was hoping for a one-year return to the 80's styling...where you had a mech with simple, sleek lines that - at first - doesn't look like component parts but then splits into vehicles...complete with an air-carrier. |
From this year I bought one new Toku item. The StarBurger. I love it. For obvious reasons.

Well, a lot came out this year, and I only got a little, so if I only count what I got:
Legacy White Tigerzord - Simply the best imo. Show accurate, and completes SHF White Ranger, and prepares for Legacy Thunder Megazord Legacy Megazord - What I missed out on during the first few runs. Need the rest of the team to complete Ultrazord. Just happy to finally have it in my collection. S.H. Figuarts Thor - A good figure, and my favorite Marvel character. Not perfect, but, I think a great companion, or upgrade to the Figma release, and companion to the next on my list.... S.H. Figuarts Iron Man MK45 - A beautiful rendition of the film suit. Initially, not top on my list, but after some reviews and galleries, he grew on me. Then I got Thor......and it was like he needed a teammate. My first Iron Man SHF, as I've been on the fence with the other releases, prioritizing higher want releases. S.H. Figuarts Kivala - Another wonderfully made female Rider. My experience with most Toku shows is minimal, this my knowledge of her was as such. But a bit of Wiki-ing, I have a bit of insight. But on looks alone she had me. Instant buy. S.H. Figuarts Masked Rider 3/Sangou - Same as above. His looks alone made it a instant buy, but admittedly, in the face of virtually no Sentai releases, Rider has been a bigger focus. Only thing I nick it for is a lack of more accessories, namely, wishing he had at least a Shocker Sword or Staff like some Ichigo releases. But experts on this character would probably say it's unnecessary. S.H. Figuarts Black RX - A must buy, who I kept overlooking until he went up in price. Now the MMPR/MR teamup can happen, and it makes way for my next big purchase... Honorable Mentions (those I don't have): S.H. Figuarts Rideron/Ridelone - Another instant buy, and the second reason I had to get RX. Now I need this, Biorider, and all three bikes, and his series will be complete. S.H. Figuarts Tridoron - one I'll likely never own...or not any time soon. Feature wise, the better of the two Rider cars, and not being a big Drive fan, love the design of this car. I'm already a sucker for 1:12/6-inch vehicles especially Figuarts-centric ones, and this delivers in spades. Bandai even compensated for Drive's tire & properly molded his seat. Lights, panels for his weapons, and the modular gimmick all add up to a worthwhile release worthy of another grail car, Machine Itasha. S.H. Figuarts Star Wars - I'm grouping all releases as this whole line, while hit or miss for some, is a boon no one saw coming...and it's not over yet. Marvel Legends - Although I haven't bought any in recent months due to my Figuarts obsession, the fact Hasbro has been on their game, with such an overflow of releases this past year is to to say the least a figure lovers dream. Star Wars Black Series (6-inch) - More love from Hasbro. With Bandai's entry into the franchise, Hasbro's had to bring their A game. They've done pretty well in my opinion, matching Bandai's offerings & leading with some of their own. Fans now have a choice in design & cost efficiency. Here's to bigger, better releases in 2016.....& hopefully.....the return of Super Sentai. Ya feelin' me Bandai? Where's my Dekaranger Swat? Where's my Kingranger? My Magiranger Legend Mode? Where's that damn Figuarts Lord Zedd?!? |
Well, the only really toku thing I got was TK Mashin Chaser, and he's cool :)
