Worst/Least Favorite?
 

Everybody bashing on Sun Vulcan got me thinking: most people have a favorite Sentai, and I know which series are generally thought of as the best, but how about the worst? And what is everybody's personal least favorite series?

Edit: just to be clear, there is a difference between a bad Sentai and a Sentai you didn't enjoy. Keep that in mind as we go forward here.

Worst: Sun Vulcan, easily. Like by far. Easily the absolute worst season. It was so bad, even the red ranger left the team, lol.

Favorite: Shinkenger, but Carranger is quickly getting in the top position along with it.

Out of the ones I've seen: DaiRanger and ToQger are my least favorites. I have favorite characters and parts of them but they both have bad endings.

Sun Vulcan, however if you want a less obvious answer Boukenger ranks pretty low with me too.

Out of sheer curiousity, what didn't you like about ToQger's ending?

Depends because to me the worst sentai is a toss up between Goseiger and ToQGer because I couldn't even stand to watch the entire series.

The worst Sentai I have seen from start to finish though? Go-Busters. There are a lot of things it tried to do, and I give it credit for that. However, the characters were uninteresting. The episodes themselves were down right boring. And the plot was just as bland. Messiah was one dimensional and the only reason he isn't worse than Dokoku is because he actually did something occasionally.

My least favorite is Dairanger. And Boukenger, though I enjoyed it more than Dairanger.
Sun Vulcan is still not a show I liked, but the second half was kinda entertaining and I liked Hiba as Vul Eagle.

My two least favorite Sentais are Boukenger and Dairanger. Which still doesnt mean that I think that they are bad shows or that I didnt enjoy them. I have a really hard time to "hate" a Sentai in general. Its not like Kamen Rider where some shows can get me absolutely furious.

Gonna go off topic for a second. I haven't seen Sun Vulcan but what's wrong with it exactly?

This should come as a surprise to nobody who knows me, but Zyuranger is by far the worst Sentai I have ever sat through beginning to end.

Zyuranger's biggest issue is simply the story. For starters there is way, way too much filler. You'll get about five or six episodes of story (save for the first ten) and then it's nothing but a rather long stretch of filler. This formular is rinsed and repeated throughout the entirety of the show. I don't even really mind there being episodes focused on kids whether they are filler or plot, but the amount of filler is just aggravating and boring. Which would make you think that the main story is at least good. Well guess what, it is just as boring and that is what makes Zyuranger kind of painful even more.

You start off with ten plot driven episodes that are executed pretty well but then fall prey to countless filler and when the story actually comes back it is just not interesting in the least bit. "But Poe what about Burai?!" Burai's story had the potential in my opinion. The first part is kinda nice, but his sort of death/revival is kinda lame to be frank, and his teaming up with Bandora is forced. Yeah he wants to kill the Zyurangers, but why forcefully team him up with somebody if HE is the ONE who wants to do the deed? Of course that brings us to his second story...and god is it painful. I'm sorry but while the first half is at least decent the minute he's restrained in the room is when his story goes to the can for me. I could go on and on about Zyu's story, but I'd need all damn day.

"What about the characters Poe?" They're...there. Nobody really ever develops save for Burai switching to good, and even then that amounts to "Oh hey, I don't hate you now. Let's fight!" Aside from him all of the Zyurangers are simply there and the same beginning to end. I'll admit I'm was surprised at Bandora's story and her having a pretty good reason to go after Earth. But even that is sort of ruined because of it only being revealed in the final few episodes. I wish this would have been more known earlier in the show to let it build and build. But nope. Burai dies, filler, oh yeah Bandora hates dinosaurs and stuff I won't really spoil. Point is that the characters are pretty much just wallflowers with only Burai and Bandora getting any real development that is just almost forceful in Burai and too later for Bandora.

Action of the show? It's decent. I don't really get why some people praise this show for the mecha fights since they seem pretty normal for the time. Yeah DaiZyuJin is God and has some extra powers, but they didn't make the fights all that interesting. Music is pretty good and definitely fits the fantasy theme.

So...yeah...there it is. Zyuranger is simply the worst Sentai I have seen in full, possibly even the worst toku I've seen. Actually scratch that, it is the worst toku show I've seen. I would much, much, much rather watch something from most Disney era Power Ranger seasons, or force myself to watch Dekaranger, or even MMPR. Heck I'd much sooner give Blade another shot than ever watch Zyuranger again.

20 straight episodes of nothing happening. While people say the red swap improves the series, I never reached VulEagle II.

I haven't seen anything before Boukenger so i can't say much of those seasons, but of the ones i've seen. Probably ToQger, i didn't hate it i liked the characters but i just kind of got bored halfway.

I try to get into Goseiger, Ohranger and Go-Onger. They just bored me to be honest.

My choices are still limited as I've only seen all (or all available) of Shinkenger, Goseiger, Ninninger, Bioman, Maskman, Liveman, Jetman, Zyuganger, Dairanger, Kakuranger, Carranger and Megaranger.

Of all of these, I'd have to say Zyuranger. As many have said, not that it's bad its just my least favorite of all of these.

I've seen a handful of eps of most of the pre-Jetman currently incomplete series and of these so far the one I couldn't even get past episode one of was Goggle V - I can't believe they use rhythmic gymnastics equipment as their main weapons!

I've seen worse. Remember what Jack Black's biker character in Anchorman did(the first one to be precise)?
Throwing it is one thing but doing a one-man Goranger storm with an animal? That is the worst.

I just would like to say that there's a difference between having something be your least favorite and having something be objectively bad. I only mention this because tons of people are posting "I don't think it's bad, I just didn't enjoy it" style disclaimers.

See, while the characters didn't really do much developing through the series, I really liked all of them. Maybe it's just because that was the first series I had seen and had no grounds for comparison though. Also, the two-part episode where Burai gets Dragon Caesar is quite possibly my favorite episode (or two) of any toku I've ever seen. Otherwise, I agree with your complaints. The mecha fights don't really seem much different than any of the other mecha fights from that era, aside from the fact that I remember them being a bit more frequent. There was tons of filler and I actually almost got bored of the series before Burai showed up.

For the record, Goseiger really was bad.

Then again, the only things I actually remember about Goseiger are Gosei Knight and Brajira, so that might be telling of something...

I haven't seen it so I have no opinion on it (aside from really liking the mech designs), but I haven't really heard too many good things about it.

I take it you're a Goseiger fan? *looks at name* :lolol

GoseiWonder, dude, stop freaking out everytime someone says something bad about Goseiger. As long as we enjoy it and know the show's strong points, everything is cool. If they don't like it, it's not our problem. We know it's awesome :D

My least favorite sentai show is, as many people before me said, also Goseiger.
The biggest problems I had with the show were mainly the story and its pacing. For me, it felt the series was just repeating the same pattern several times over, before making its big reveal with a certain character.

While such pacing can be excused with having an interesting cast of characters, making it a character driven series, Goseiger unfortunately also lacks that, in my opinion.
The ranger characters felt very inconsistent to me. For example: in the second episode, Hyde saves the day by showing effective leadership through logic. In another episode, where each of the Goseigers gets a turn in leadership, Hyde fails when he tries to open a vault by attempting every combination there is. The series was never consistent if he was an effective logic thinker, or unable to think outside the box, making him ineffective in situations where that is required.
I felt this inconsistency with almost all of the ranger characters.

It is not so bad that I regret watching it, as it has some good elements, such as one of the villains and the finale. But it is simply the least favorite of Sentai shows I have seen.

I can respect what people didn't like about Goseiger. The first time I watched it, I gave up 15 episodes in. Then I went back and watched it again and loved it. But that is just my opinion on the show.

Now Zyuranger is my next to least favorite because it was boring. Everything felt like filler except for maybe 10 episodes for the Burai arc and another 10 for the ending, but those were only part of those episodes and not the main focus of them. The kid of the week thing (although did feature ToQ 6's actor) was tiresome. It hurt my feelings how we were expected to accept that these warriors from millions of years ago, woke up to fight and quickly and easily adapted to modern day Tokyo, got jobs, and made a shit ton of friends (all under the age of 12). That was a bit much for me. There was no development of the rangers at all. Bureau had the most development, then he died *spoiler alert*. The most fleshed out character on the show was Bandora.

My feeling about Sun Vulcan are pretty much the same; the rangers were boring. They just sat around the restaurant waiting for stuff to happen, stuff happened, they went and fought, then came back and made fun of Vul Panther. Roll credits. Every single episode was like that. Even the original red ranger bounced after a while. I didn't blame him. Even the villains were boring. The biggest set back was how much they relied on Denziman for the show; I know it was meant to be a sequel to Denziman at first, but it still could have stood on its own. The only bright spot of the show was the Vul Stick; that shit was the most dynamic weapon in sentai history. It worked as a weapon against henchmen, could destroy a super computer in a single throw, or destroy a helicopter while is flew high above it's owner (all happened in the show). The power of the Vul Stick was so inconsistent, that it became a game to se what new feat it could accomplish. That was fun; the rest of the show was not.

I know that everyone has their own preference when it comes to sentai nd I think that is awesome. Like seriously; after 39 teams, there is no way that there can be a consensus on which team is the best or worst and I enjoy the debate on the matter.

Oh I know it has flaws, the whole "yay we won! Wait, a NEW enemy faction?" thing can rub many people the wrong way (I personally see it as giving me 3 seasons worth of the show in 1 season's time and how that would actually play out if you gave [favorite season of KR/SS] more seasons and why you may not want that, I personally didn't mind how they did it) and yeah, differing opinions are always welcome in discussion. :)

But you've got to admit the timing was perfect for that response. :lol

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. Where is all this Dairanger backlash coming from? I don't love Dairanger as much as many (I wouldn't even place in in my top 5 list), but anyone saying it's The Worst Sentai Ever is literally crazy.

For me, Magiranger is BY FAR my least favorite, and in fact it's the only Sentai show I've ever actively disliked. Despite having some cool villains (Wolzard, Nai and Mare), I think everything else about the show is juvenile garbage. There are definitely great ideas and design elements, but I legitimately cannot stand a single one of the characters. They act like they're mentally handicapped at almost every turn. I wish Houka, especially, would die in a fire.

Good thing that nobody said that its the worst sentai. Only their least favorite. Just because something is "good" doesnt automatically mean that people will enjoy it.

Word. Misunderstood y'all. Was just surprised by the multitude of anti-Dairanger sentiments on the first page. There's typically a reverence for Dairanger, so seeing so much dislike was jarring. :lol

Well, it's less a reverence and more one person constantly vouching for it at every opportunity around here :lol

Still, in the "greater fandom," there seems to be a consensus (or as close to one that this fandom can muster :lol ) that Dairanger is a "Good Sentai Show."

Dairanger was rather above average for me, but that's really the best it could get.
