Great news!

Shout Factory TV, the digital entertainment side of Shout! Factory, will be live-streaming/marathoning Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger on January 23rd starting at 9am PST.

It will be hosted by August Ragone!

Aw man. I was hoping for a literal marathon of the entire series :lol
It probably would just be a little over 19 hours. Not too long :p

He is a film historian on Japanese cinema and TV shows. He wrote "Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monsters: Defending the Earth with Ultraman and Godzilla". He has been a huge Toku fan since the 60's. He is also a big fan anime since the 60's and 70's. The guy lived in Japan in the 80's and has met many famous people that work on toku and anime.

I met him at the double feature viewing my Alamo Drafthouse had of Monster Zero/War of the Gargantuas and he was awesome to talk with. Very knowledgeable and down to earth.

This is cool, but I own them on DVD, so I see no reason to bother.

That's actually pretty awesome. I'm also hoping this is a sign that their subbing efforts have been staying strong with Dairanger and that they'll keep continuing them through all the series hopefully. I know I already feel bad not getting Dairanger on Amazon yet since I know these sentai subbing efforts by them can use all the help they can get.

I think the point of the stream is more to interact and talk while watching, not just to sit in silence, you guys...

What the fuck do you think you'd be interacting with? The Zyurangers?

How would I interacting with people on a stream? If I were watching it, I would be watching it, not talking to thin air. :lol

The chat. Most stream places, and Im assuming Shout!s has one, a chat where you can talk to others watching the stream, as you are talking to us now.

This is cool, as i see it in another way Sentai is coming into its own here in the US. Maybe it means the sub releases are more popular than we think?

I probably will forget to watch this, but its awesome that it is a thing.

Wow, this seems fun.

I know I'm gonna do my absolute best to make it to this event since I really want to show case the support for official subs. Even if your like me and already own the shoutfactory dvds for Zyuranger I really encourage you to watch this stream as we can not only have awesome conversations but also show that subbing the original sentai is not just a fad but something that is supported by a good number of people.

"Ninja task Force Kakuranger"

Well, that just made my interest shoot through the roof. :lol

This almost embarrassing, but I pretty much forgot about this and/or didn't have time to involve myself with it.

Out of pure curiosity (as I've seen the episodes before and even have the Shout copy), which ones did they show? Was it just a few of the primaries, including the introductory Burai saga?

I thought this was supposed to be all day so when I got home from the movies and had an hour to kill I was like, "OH why the hell not, let's see how this works," but then when I went on, I couldn't find it.

It's still marathoning on the Pluto TV app on Apple TV, (channel 515, I think).

They played the first seven episodes. I caught the premiere, and yep, still one of the better Sentai premieres.

Don't have that or Apple TV.

Anyway, I watched those August videos posted and downloaded them because they are awesome. Although, for a man that lived in Japan, August can't seem to pronounce Zyuranger correctly. :lol He's an awesome guy though and I'm jealous he got to do something like this.

He is definitely a knowledgeable guy, but I must agree with his pronunciation as it feels lacking. I don't even speak Japanese as a second language, but it's not hard to do "Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger" if you've spent enough time with it. I also didn't care for the excessive translations he did to each individual series he happened to reference. He did seem to break in two things that stood out (video spoilers):

A: Zyuranger was dinosaur-themed in anticipation of Jurassic Park. Not the first time I've heard of a possible connection, but it was regarding the "Saban chose a dinosaur team to capitalize on the renewed dinosaur interest started by Jurassic Park" theory.

B: Very rarely heard of Japanese concern over Sentai content. The censors are notoriously different than they are in the states, but didn't know that similar PR complaints were ALSO Sentai complaints.

Expanded answers to both would be appreciated.

As a whole, I would consider using videos like this to teach someone about Super Sentai if they have serious questions about it. It's not the perfect "two-hour documentary" style we you have thorough, unhinged interviews with hidden details, but it would suffice in a nutshell.

I remember around the time Gokaiger was on air Japan had a Super Sentai special one-shot show that goes over trivial stuff(for example, stuff like Kane Kosugi, Sato Tamao, etc. having their start in Super Sentai, etc.) and remember them mentioning something similar.
