Best Monster Designs?
 

Which is your favorite monster design? Which series do you think has the overall best monster designs? Which has the worst?

edit: By monster I'm referring to the monster of the week featured in each episode of a series, but main villains can count too.

...and I totally forgot to include my picks. Anyways...

I'm partial to Zyuranger's monster designs. I love the influence from classical mythology, and the suits looked a bit more modern and detailed than even a few of the series after it.

I'm gonna sound like more of a fanboy, but...Gekiranger's :lol
Every time I think of other monster designs, characters like 5 Deadly Venoms, Maki, or Long immediately come to mind.
I love the RinRinShi, and their evolved monster forms are amazing to look at. They're easily my favorite.

Mine are probably Gekiranger as well. The animal forms look cool and provide good variety, and they're believably intimidating and service the show's gimmick pretty well. Second favorite is probably Shinkenger, since they do a very cool thing of combining river-dwelling crustaceans with Japanese youkai, heh.

I don't dig Jetman/Dairanger/Ninninger thing of anthropomorphizing random objects. Or at least I don't anymore. I mean, you've seen forty of those, you've seen enough.

Are we talking about Monsters of the Week or just in general? I think my favorite is a toss up between the Saima Clan and the Dora Monsters. If we are just talking about the main villain's themselves though, then it would definitely be the Saima Clan.

I was referring to monster of the week, but we can talk about villains too.

I chose Kyoryuger because of the detail in its monster designs. Detailed that in some cases I didn't think it was necessary because the average viewer wouldn't notice it. Like the dangling bones on the robe of the Bone Collector, the caged prisoners in the cells of Slammer and the amount of teeth engulfing Tenacious D's face and the dangling pieces of diamonds from his chin.

Ice Age's design I like because his shoulders are icebergs in the middle of the sea with smaller icebergs surrounding the large one. The sea monster having boats as feet was creative so he was also a good design.

Dora Sphinx

Oh this, most definitely!!

In Dairanger Gorma's MOTW design was terrible. Guys in stocking/traditionnal costume with a random prop on the head (a few examples there: http://supersentai.com/database/1993.../vi-gorma1.htm)

It wasn't frightening and leaned more towards "cool" when I first caught glimpse of it during MMPR.
Also gave Jason quite the challenge if I recall correctly.

I completely disagree. Some of them are just down right awesome such as Lipstick Songstress, Key Jester, the Shitennou, and Bird Cage Vagabond.

Anyway, man, this is tough to think up an exact favorite Monster design. Right now I'm narrowing it down to either DoraSphinx, DoraReiger, Lipstick Songstress, or Jiin.

Jetman did have a lot of great designs, though. Not Keita Amemiya's best work - both Metalder and Kamen Rider Black RX were better, I think - but still a lot of good stuff in there.

Still better than anything to come out of Dekaranger. I love that show, but it has probably the most consistently bad MOTW designs I've ever seen in a tokusatsu.

I've always been a fan of this guy. I wish he was in Zyuranger though, not just Power Rangers...

I absolutely love the Trinoids that Michaela made in Abaranger. Some of those combinations were just ridiculous and hilarious, and really set the mood for one of the most fun seasons to watch in my opinion.

I've yet to watch Abaranger, but everything I've heard about it sounds really good. I've just always been a bit scared of the CGI, which I'm not much of a fan of. Is it about on par with Gaoranger's CGI? I can actually deal with that.

Yo guys come on, AntBazooka from Jetman is pretty damn cool. Some other from Jetman are pretty awesome too but they do have their share of stupid ones.

It was still the early days of CG usage. Their henshin scene is decent.

Some of the 80's and GoGo-V are at least my favorites.
