Yup, that's the ugliest Godzilla suit I have ever seen. Jesus Christ, it's hideous.

And what's up with that giant tail?! Godzilla always had a long tail, but never was it almost bigger than the main boy. Looks awful. So yeah, as far as design goes the Legendary Godzilla wins.

Don't know if I even want to watch this movie to be honest... which is sad because I freakin' love Japanese Godzilla movies. But this looks really bad so far, the rest of the trailer wasn't very interesting either.

I like what I'm seeing so far. Cant wait to sit down and watch it in the theatre.

I get what they're going for with that design, but it just isn't working for me. The shortened snout with a lot of teeth isn't really something I'm into, the tail is too damn long, and while Godzilla's arms have basically always been short, they look a little too noticeably short and too skinny for the body size. I'm also not really big on the burning Godzilla look.

I like the street shots, though. Monster movies with street shots tend to focus on the people reacting to the monster, rather than focusing on the scale and destruction of the monster itself.

But this Godzilla just doesn't look to hot.

I'm very hype up for the movie. The movie looks really good. I really like the darker feeling of the trailer and the special effects look really good. Godzilla himself looks scary as hell.

Looks very overly dark. But i like it. I hope this comes to dvd here in the U.S. one day.

At first I was like "Seems like a teaser for a Godzilla film." Then when I saw his suit I just could not stop laughing. The tail is so long and his arms look too small and when he opens his mouth it just did not look that great. Then the shot with the explosions and the camera panning up, his smile just made me laugh more. The city destruction looked pretty good and the civilian scenes look okay.

The only other Godzilla film I had seen was the 2014 film so I am not the best person to judge this trailer on. I was hoping that this film could introduce me to the Japanese side of Godzilla, but this looks like Godzilla should be serious and his suit just failed at it.

I just think Godzilla standing there, wagging his tail in the middle of the city with a stupid grin on his face is so dumb. Like, "oh no! This giant radioactive terror! He's going to destroy the city!... probably. Right now he hasn't moved much."

I'm probably entirely wrong, but I have a feeling this could be sort of a red herring. That they're presenting this charred monstrosity as "the new, gritty Toho Godzilla" but in reality, it's just a disfigured imitator, and the REAL Godzilla is gonna show up to kick its ass by the end of the movie.

Maybe that's just wishful thinking. Lol.

Tail looks a little ridiculous, but I'm excited for this. It looks like they're playing up the angle that he's a victim of the atom bomb, like the original Godzilla. In that context his charred and grotesque appearance is entirely fitting.

I don't quite get the red thing, but I am digging the whole degenerated/mutated look they gave him. Though I'll admit, the tail being uber long is pretty funny. Still pretty excited for this to come out and with it looking like they are going for a more serious tone I'm a bit more interested.

Godzilla in the past had a pretty long tail in the pail. I think a long tail allows him to destroy more buildings in a single sweep.

I have mixed feelings about this. For starters, the arms are far too short, the tail is a tad too long (but I like how he waves it around and such) and the mouth is a bit weird. I don't know how I feel about the "burning Godzilla" look but it makes sense if they're going for atomic bomb monster look like the older incarnations. I feel like he also just moves WAY too slow in this. However, this trailer is likely more of a teaser and is only meant to show us tiny portions of the movie. There will likely be a lot more action and faster paced scenes in the actual films. Also, Hideaki Anno is known for being a huge Kaiju and toku fan, so I feel like he'll provide a lot of fanservice-y moments. I can't see him going experimental with it.

Rumors are that Godzilla is going to regenerate as the movie progresses.

Honestly, even the small arms are kinda working for me here; makes it seem less humanoid (or less like a human in a suit). I may end up not actually liking this movie, but I'd like to get a figure of this design.

I just feel that the arms are too small, since a lot of lizards have arms (Er...Front legs) proportional to their body, not t-rex stubs, which is off putting to me.

Man this just looks really really bad. I was kind of on board for the design (whether it's mid mutation or not) but seeing it in motion here it just looks terribly goofy and silly. The tail is ridiculous, the arms comical, and that expression is just dopey. On top of that whoever cut this video together did a really poor job of it. It just feels so disjointed. I expected much much more from this movie than what this teaser is providing so far. I'll keep an open mind but for the time being this looks like it'll be an easy pass of a film.

So word has it that the Godzilla in this movie is going to be all CGI. :-(

Guess I'm one of the few here that actually really dig the new Godzilla design barring the overly-long tail.

If the arms weren't so puny, I'd like this design.

I liked what I saw outside of how lifeles he moves.

Wow. So much tension in such a short trailer! Really dig the design on this Godzilla. Ive been waiting for a gritty design.

What feels a bit jarring is how very animated he is while roaring at the start of the trailer compared to how he barely moves at all (aside from his ridiculous tail) during the rest of it.
The trailer is so short that it's hard to tell which is a better representation of how he actually moves. Was shaking his head around while roaring just a fluke and he'll mostly be a lifeless statue from the waist up the whole film, or did the trailer simply limit us to shots where he wasn't doing anything?

Like the overall design, although some of the Heisei designs are more my cup of tea.

Someone settle this for me, at 32 seconds in, is that Kanji Tsuda from Ryuki/Shinkenger/Garo?

I don't know, i can totally see Anno going experimental. Im not sure conventional is in the man's vocabulary. That said, i am cautiously optimistic. That 'burning' look seems more like burned and bloody tissue to me. If they intend to portray godzilla as a victim lashing out in pain, it could work, even though the godzilla design doesn't thrill me.

EDIT: The long shots do seem to be reminiscent of the original godzilla's speed and movement. It feels more like the first one, at any rate. Also, with that choral background music, i can't help looking for comparisons to evangelion. This film ought to be considered on its own, but i still wonder if there won't wind up being some similar themes or motifs...
