This year, the Ultraman brand will be half a century old.
And to commemorate this fine occasion Tsubaraya gives us Ultraman Orb.

Ultraman Orb will be the 42nd Ultra hero, and is a Ultraman who borrows powers from past Ultras such as Tiga, Taro, Zero, etc.
By doing so Orb can type change in many ways to fight the kaiju threat.

Our protagonist is a nomad drifter by the name of Kurenai Gai played by famous actor and Kamen Rider Den-O's bad guy Kai, Ishiguro Hideo.

Main director will be Ultraman X's director Taguchi.

Zeperion Specium: A form that borrows the powers of Ultraman Tiga and Ultraman.
Can perform various beam attacks to fight.

After Ultraman X which was fantastic I really look forward to this (as well as the X movie of course). Assuming it is a new show and not a movie.

I heard it will start on July. The month the first Ultraman aired.

I love his look and his form changes. Really excited for this series.

Looking at the full scans, really looks like Ultraman now has to a) have a whole bunch of alternate forms and b) pander to nostalgia forever and ever to exist at all.

His forms look good though. Especially Burn Might.

Not digging the Ultra suits, but I enjoyed the hell out of the last couple Ultra series and really hope that this keeps up the quality.

Unless there's something we haven't seen, I'd assume that Specium Zepelion is the "base" one.

I don't dig the suits (yet), and Ishiguro Hideo plays the protagonist? Interesting. I hated Kai in Den-O, but more because of how lazy they shoehorned a bud guy into the last couple of episodes which made no sense. His acting wasn’t bad so I'm willing to give him a chance in this show and forget about Kai.

Also, Ultraman X's director? The more people from Ultraman X working on this the better.

I was really happy with X and Orb is on the same track.

So is this supposed to be the Gokaiger/Decade of the Ultra series?

I haven't watched anything Ultra except for the first Ultraman series. Tbh I don't think I could picture the premise without the goofy glory of the Showa era.

UltraMan Ginga, UltraMan Ginga S, and UltraMan X had goofy moments too. I am watching the first UltraMan series right now and they are the like.

Also UltraMan Ginga and UltraMan X had past UltraMan series references and guest stars but yeah this one is definitely more of the Gokaiger/Decade of it.

In what sense? It's an anniversary show but the story doesn't make it sound any more "Gokaiger/Decade" than Ginga was.

Ultraman usually has tighter continuity in general.

I think it's just using cards to access the powers of older Ultra characters is giving him that vibe.

I guess, but both X and Ginga did similar things as well.

This looks more "Anniversary Conglomerate Character" than Ginga or X do. At least more explicitly so.

I should give X another spin. Currently watching Mebius and loving it, but I wasn't thrilled with X watching it "live", so to speak and I feel I might be missing something there. X is a cool design though.

Ishiguro's character Gai feels like he will be entertaining.

I've always adored how the miniatures looked in Ultraman. The more modern shows look really nice and its obvious that care has been put into creating them. Also the new Ultraman suit looks really good.
