Why hasnt Sentai Had a Space Themed Season Yet?
They've had repeats of the car theme, dinosaur theme, ninja and samurai theme, but they've never had a Space themed season. And I mean a true space themed one where most of the action takes place in space. I don't know, maybe it just seems like a no brainer for me seeing how PR had two back to back space themed seasons.

Well, for PR, it was a combination of miscommunication and making money, since Megaranger made it seem like it was gonna be about space, when in reality the Astro Megaship never leaves orbit and the Mega Voyager kind of just bamfs to Earth once obtained. Lost Galaxy took place in space because IS made enough bank to save the franchise and they wanted to recapture that.
As for Sentai, I dunno. I guess they want to keep things grounded by having all the major events take place on Earth? |
You mean you didn't know? Tokyo is the only place in the world that matters. Honestly, its really the only place in the entire galaxy that matters.

Well how about this
TOO MUCH MONEY! It would be too expensive for Toei Toei are not Disney studios who have a lot of money than Toei! |

Seriously man, think before you post. |
But they're protectors of Earth.....

I think Sentai could work in space. It would be a neat concept. They could even have a special crossover where they bump into the Gokaigers~
|
Well Dekaranger had spacey stuff in it.
Actually, I would love to see a show where halfway through the rangers are banished from Earth and we spent the next quarter watching them planet hop until they gain new powers to save the Earth. |
Gokaiger and Flashman both had some space elements to them, even it most of the action took place on Earth.

I think the space theme is not popular like before.

It could work. Especially with the renewed interest of the space sheriffs, thanks to the recent movies and crossovers.
Would be cool but I understand the concept of protecting the earth serving as a mainstay for the series. |
We could have another mechas like of the megarangers ?
|
Like Megaranger how? If you mean a spaceship, I guess so.
If you mean in reference to it being a 1 piece mecha, 6th rangers tend to get those on a yearly basis. |
What about flashman?

An interesting show to check out might be Juspion. The first few episodes are entirely set in space and show the character planet hopping looking for an item before it settles on Earth. The biggest issue with doing a show out in space is definitely the question of cost. The reason Sentai always takes place in modern day Japan is because it's the easiest, cheapest setting to film. Anything else and you have to start building sets and probably get extras into costume. This is one of the drawbacks of tokusatsu compared to anime. What they could realistically do, though, is set a series in feudal Japan. Toei produces quite a few period dramas and so they always have period costumes and sets at the ready. |

Because they probably don't have a big enough budget to design different alien races.
|
I guess a totally-space series could happen, but I don't see it as a real possibility. At least, not one that convincingly takes place on alien-looking planets. Sentai's production demands require that they use a handful of regular urban locations and previously-erected soundstages.
I suppose we could have one where all civilizations in the galaxy look like contemporary Tokyo... but I think a ton of people would complain about that, too. :lol |
I guess it can be done as well as there is a certainty amongst Toei and Bandai, TV Asahi, and other sponsors, etc. that good merch and a convincing narrative can come out of this idea to ultimately print money.
