What happened to Hurricanger?
 

Random subject maybe, I was looking for a torrent for Hurricanger and and I can't seem to find it in any of the usual places.

I know that any show that Shout has done gets taken down, but why is Hurricanger available to stream in its entirety and not download anywhere now?

Other shows that would be great would be Kakuranger (I know its being released, so that I understand) and I wish Timeranger was finished being subbed (not likely soon).....

Anyone have any info?

Hurricaneger hasn't been completely subbed by fansubbers. It does however have HK bootleg subs, which are probably what wherever you've found it to stream are hosting. Finding them to actually download is probably tougher, I can't say I've ever looked.

Being HK subs the accuracy of them is questionable. I've heard these ones in particular are good enough to follow, but there are probably other people here better to verify that than me.

The only full subs available for Hurricanger are Hong Kong ones. However they're actually really good. The translation is nice and there aren't many issues with the subs themselves (my DVD set lags for three episodes before returning to being synched up perfectly). I own the show on a two disc set and while the video quality is not that great (cramming over 20 episodes onto a disc will do that) but it isn't outright terrible. I don't know what the quality would be like for the download or stream. The set can be found easy as can be on ebay if you want to buy it if you end up liking the show a lot or wait for SHOUT! to get it.

Official or not Hurricanger is really good show so I suggest watching it subbed or raw.

Also of note my subs are white, not the yellow ones you can find sometimes. So very clearly there are two sets of HK subs out there, so your mileage may very as I can only describe the ones I have.

Kakuranger is already out on DVD. I did a full review of the set earlier this month.

I'd advise you not to bother with the bootlegs, though. I know like four translators who are interested in and/or have already started working on Hurri, so it's only a matter of time before we get a proper set of subs.

So everybody is talking about the HK subs being bootlegs and not official...but...aren't all of the subs technically bootlegs? Outside of what Shout! has given us, of course.

It's really less a case of technicality, and more a case of separating the bad from the decent :lol

"Bootleg" has negative connotations, so people refer to bootleg subs as poor quality, sometimes mistranslated subs.

Just pointed out that this was not, in fact, information he already knew since he was under the mistaken impression that the set was coming out in the future and had not been released yet. Our friend was just letting him know that it was in fact already available, which is valuable and relevant information.

No, the subs themselves aren't. But the video and audio can be bootlegs, as in bootleg recordings. The term is, however, mostly used for commercial items, such as fake brand-products or illegal DVDs and CDs and stuff. Since subs are usually non-commercial, they're technically not considered bootlegs.
HK subs on the other hand are non-lincensed, but sold as official products, which is why they are considered bootlegs.

Are those scrubs from HK subs, or are they subs from a new group? First I've heard of Shushutto at all.

'Scrubs' is in their name, so.

I hope this doesn't stop the people who're translating this from scratch, though. That's what I'd much rather have. :\

Same. If I was capable to do it myself, I would, but my Japanese still isn't quite enough and I have no one for the technical stuff.

Also, considering how meh CruelAngel's Agito was despite getting scrubbed by GomenRider... Scrubs are not the best option.
(Seriously, translating a "Miss Satou" as "sweetie"- yeowch, that one hurt. Which only proves that GomenRider didn't know enough Japanese to save those subs)

Ais (our translation checker and head of SkewedS Translations) took a look at Shushutto's first episode and seemed impressed. But it's worth noting that he translated up to episode 28, so these scrubbers may have been using his work as a reference 'til now. So I'd recommend waiting until they get to 29 to see if the quality still holds up ('cause they'll only have bootlegs and captions to go off of), but that's just me. :X

Would Japanese captions help? Hurricanger's got them if you wanna take a swing at it :P And I think you'll wanna recruit for stuff like timing, but generally speaking AegiSub isn't that hard to figure out so it may be worth considering :)

(Though, it doesn't change the fact that I still know other people who want to do this series so y'know)

I probably won't have the time anyway as I'm gonna be back to university soon and then hopefully start working next year. I'm just in vacation mode right now xD

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. Someone mentioned something was in the works. I never followed up so I was surprise to see it like everyone else. I don't know who or they is behind it but better than nothing I suppose.
