Favorite 80's or 70's sentai?
While I have been a big fan of this stuff for a long I have not had the chance to watch every season. Up until now I have largely ignored any of the seasons pre 1990's. So I was wondering what your guys personal favorites/recommendations are.

Maskman is one my favorite sentai.
|
I actually really enjoy Battle Fever J for what it is. Liveman is pretty cool too. I haven't watched much else from that era, but Changeman and Maskman are both held in pretty high regard.
|
Liveman. Of the series I have seen from start to finish in the 80s, it is the only one that has truly blown me away. The rest I've watched I found to be mediocre to average.
|
The most of the 70's and 80's sentai had the best audience.
|
Always Liveman. Such a fantastic show.
|
Battle Fever J and Denjiman are great. Bioman, Changeman and Liveman are pretty good as well.
|
Flashman, Liveman, Turboranger.
|
I really love JAKQ. I've seen a paltry amount of it, but what I have seen blew me out of the water. It's so fun.
It's the opposite of the question you asked, but I quite dislike Maskman. |
Flashman and Changeman.
They're actually two of my favorite shows. Changeman has a fantastic villain that sells the idea of this guy actually being a cruel tyrant. It was one of the first shows that went above and beyond in giving you this set of characters in the villains with more depth than what was the norm at the time. The world feels rich and well thought out and, again, the characters in general actually feel like there's more to their personality than the color they're playing. Flashman's fantastic on all sides, it's got a great core set of characters, a ton of interesting villains, and a unique story Sentai really hasn't done since. Flashman's story often reminds you that our heroes are on a time limit and everything is basically working against them for the majority of the series. Plus, it gives you one of the best fights, if not the best, in Sentai history, the final battle against Cowler. (really bad dub aside) I'm so glad Flashman is actually being subbed now. |
Haven't seen any in full, but I loved the chunks I've seen of Changeman and Turboranger. Awesome casts, villains and action choreography.

While I havent watched but an episode or two here and there I have to say the shows that drew my interest the most were, Flashman, Maskman, SunVulcan, Turboranger, Liveman, and Bioman. Any ideas where to start?

Why all the 80's sentai have hight ratings than today ?
|
Because there were fewer channels. If you have X amount of people forced to choose between 3 or 5 options, all of them are going to be huge. Today you have over 100 channels available at any given time.

But yeah, Flashman. Great premise with a fantastic payoff, wonderful villains and the stakes are huge due to the pressure on the Rangers this time around. |
Thanks for the feedback. I started watching liveman and I am impressed with it. For example a early episode has the younger brother of a character who died in first episode shows up and asks red falcon to help build a car that his brother designed. Of course they build it and a monster poses it and I thought "oh god here we go again the kid is going to try and protect this monster car". However instead they use the designs to make their own super car live cougar to fight it. In the end the kid is just happy his brother designs were useful. I am used to something like zyuranger that has kids being dumb kids all the time so this was refreshing.
