Tokusatsu Podcast
What's a good Tokusatsu Podcast to listen to? I've already ruled 2 of them out but would like everyone's opinion.
|
HJU Radio, based out of Henshin Justice Unlimited, is fun, especially if you like WTF@TFW and want more Vangelus. It's updated pretty sporadically, though, and when it does come out it can run over four hours long, half of which is usually pretty off-topic.
There's a new Rider podcast with a lot of potential called Rider Break, which is currently a solo project by a dude called Igadevil, who's probably one of, if not the greatest expert on Kamen Rider in the English speaking world. There are only a couple episodes up so far and they're mostly just him talking about the show and answering questions he got off Twitter. Like I said, though, it has a lot of potential. Those are the main ones that I've listened to. |
I've listen to HJU Radio, the fact that one episode goes on for 3hr and has multiple parts was a turn off. I may give it another shot.
Then there's RRR (Rider, Rangers & Rambles). I listen to their latest episode and couldn't handle it, immature boob jokes only 15min in gave me a bad impression of the cast. |
Superhero Time on http://www.tfradio.net/ They do have some immature jokes (mostly your mom) but they are a lot better than RRR, which I turned off after 5min ;)
These guys are weekly, most of the time, so there is lots. They always cover this weeks Kamen Rider and Sentai episodes, plus a random episode of something at the end. I like em. :) Also, I seem to be the only person who likes long podcasts (Superhero Time is NOT long). Whenever I see 3, or 4, or 5hrs on one I jump for joy! Then again, I listen during work so that's why :p |
Maybe we should try and start one for here.
Maybe it'll be good. |

I'll give them a shot thanks! |
Well, I only do daikaiju rather than tokusatsu as a whole, but you can also check out my podcast, Earth Destruction Directive, the link to which is in my signature! :D
|
I can't stand RRR, or the three nimrods that are on there.
My favorite is probably HJU. The only ones I've seen recently that have been multiple parts are the Toku 101's, but that's really not HJU, it's TheFwooshcast main guy really with people that have been on HJU. So it's kinda like a crossover podcast. I personally don't mind the longer podcasts. |
I am contractually-obligated to also recommend "Supehero Time" for its cheap comedic value. :)
I can also toss out a recommendation for "Destroy All Podcasts DX"; they only occasionally handle toku-ish materials but its usually entertaining. |
I can't listen to the HJU podcast. I tried twice. It's so disjointed and out of any kind or order. I haven't ever heard a toku podcast that really tried before.
|
Start your own one here.
With blackjack, and hookers. (As for an answer, I really can't listen to any of them. They start sidetracking early on and I lose interest often times by the 8-10 min mark (If that long)) |

I listen to Superhero Time. I tried to listen to RRR once, but when they were talking about the Cho Den-O Trilogy they did it all in stupid voices which really put me off. I've been thinking about giving them another shot but at the same time I've also got so many podcasts I'm behind on.
|
Is RRR really that bad? I listened to one episode a while ago and don't remember it being exceedingly awful or anything.
But yeah, Rider Break is pretty promising, mostly because of the lack of a 2 hour section about what Igadevil's "been geeking on", not that I dislike HJU Radio, it's just, you know, I want to hear about tokusatsu, and not disjointed rants about whatever it is someone watched the other day. I've heard people complain about the off-topic bits of WTF@TFW, but at least they're usually still talking about toys. |
^ WTF will give you heads up and are aware but the other guys... for no reason just talk about stuff i don't want to hear lol!
|
I need to join a podcast so I can gush about ponies and promptly get kicked off after one episode :D
|
We don't even have a podcast yet and nevertheless... you just got yourself a ban from ever appearing. :lol
I had to give it two different tries before I could actually finish a HJU Radio podcast. I don't think I ever would have if it wasn't for the one-two punch of Vangelus and Igadevil. Although I still have to give them hell for that Toku Toy 101 and the Ultraman and Godzilla section, heh. I've never listened but I don't think I could do RRR at all. Quote:

I literally just recorded a new show yesterday and it is available to listen right here (direct link to MP3). On it I talk about the IDW miniseries Godzilla: Gangsters and Goliaths. Enjoy! Personally speaking, I would love to find a solid Super Sentai/Kamen Rider/Ultraman podcast. Like I said earlier in the thread, my favorite tokusatsu and my specialty knowledge-wise is daikaiju, so that is what I talk about on my show. But I really dig the TV stuff as well, but I am not knowledgeable enough nor up-to-date enough to incorporate it onto EDD. I mean, I could talk about classic PR (pre-Ninja Storm) till the cows come home, but I'd really like some of the smarties here to put a show together to talk about the current crop of shows. |
^ I've been watching Sentai, Rider, and Toku as a whole for over 10 years. I wouldn't mind taking part in that.

|
Would be cool to be part of a Toku podcast. I just hate the ones that interrupt and speak over everyone every 5 minutes.
|
I'm serious folks. If the interest is there, get together over PM and work out a time to get together on Skype and record one. Or record one on your own. Podcasting does not require a lot of special equipment -- mostly a microphone, and a headset if you are doing it over Skype. I record Earth Destruction Directive on my MP3 player and edit in Audacity, for example -- nothing fancy.
|
It would be interesting to be a part of in some way, but it takes practice runs of the podcast, and getting use to eachother speaking through microphone.

All I'm saying is that doing a podcast is not something to be intimidated by (not suggesting you are, by the way, this is a general comment). |
HJU Radio, Superhero Time( hi Paladin), Rider Break and Dan's Toku Rants( hi Nick) and Toku Talk
|
If We're going to have a toku postcast here i want in.
|
I'll also throw out a plug for Superhero Time. It's very funny, but also to the point. There's not a whole hell of a lot of rambling and the cast is knowledgable and fun to listen to.
*really hope ExVee doesn't read this and gets a big head* |
Here's an idea... instead of telling TokuNation to host a podcast, there seems to be enough of you guys to start your own Toku podcast :D
It should be real simple. For those of you who want in, just start one. Just don't affiliate it with this site though... for legal reasons you know :) |

And if it's unaffiliated, I'm not banned :lol

For Kaiju fans, I would actually strongly recommend the Kaijucast. It's fairly organized, has plenty of solid discussions, and includes some really great music.
|
From The Command Center is pretty fun if you like Power Rangers.
They even go over the Sentai whatever show they're doing was adapted from, which means it's educational! ;) |
I'ed think it be entrusting to here a podcast from TokuNation, though the problem is finding people with chemistry, knowledge, and time to make a good podcast, so ya be fun and I would be entrusted-in listing to or possibly doing. (though I doubt I whould be on it) However I can recommend HJU Radio, IDK I kinda like what they do for a 3-5 hour podcast, but ya I could see how it would be to long to listen to, but I can easily recommend SuperHero Time it's a fun fun show with your mom, a nickle, and segwaying off a cliff, plus an commentary on an singular non-modern EP ever week, I love that show and is my main listen too. Also need to listen to ikas Rider Break some time

Just want to put a feeler out there, anyone who is up to joining a podcast and is able to edit? Life suddenly catches up and we find that no one has the time to edit :(
|
I cover toku on my podcast every so often if that helps? Rangercast was the podcast that got a lot of us into doing our own shows back in the day.
|
You can check out my latest episode of Earth Destruction Directive right here:
