Ranger Nation announced at PMC
Since there's still not a news article on it and nobody else has posted anything, but I think it's something that definitely should be discussed, might as well start one...
So this weekend at Power Morphicon, Saban Brands announced the creation of Ranger Nation, what I've seen described as a one-stop shop forum for all Power Rangers news, reviews, galleries, discussions, and more. What's everyone's thoughts on this announcement? ---- Have certainly seen some pretty strong opinions against this in my brief perusal of Twitter immediately following it, but I'm not seeing it as too bad of a thing. Forums are sort of a dying breed, but fan-run ones will still always have their niche. This new official one probably will be heavily moderated and controlled, but that's where others will fill the gaps. It can't possibly spell the end of them. Heck, my older biggest interest, LEGO, has long had an official forum and yet there are numerous fansites that are still incredibly popular (and during last year's revival of BIONICLE they even utilized these fansites to host a massive officially sanctioned contest, recognizing their importance to their fans). You go to wherever the type of discussion you want to have is at and that seems totally fine to me. |
Sounds possibly interesting. Though outside of what you're saying, and the Ranger Nation placeholder page, I can't seem to find any info on the announcement. Got a link you can share?
As for this forum not reporting on the news, that shouldn't be surprising. This "Ranger Nation" is possible competition. I mean, I can't blame them, but at the same time I think it would have been cool of them to have reported on it. That said, the Ninja Steel toys never got a front page article either, so it wouldn't surprise me if, in the chaos of PMC, they missed some things. These conventions are never easy on the people who go to report news and info back to us. |
My experience with those type of sites is that they have heavily moderatted so if you say something they don't like, it isn an instant ban.

I'm sure it will be nice for the show's younger fans. Anyone who's been around for awhile probably already has an account at this forum, HJU, RangerBoard, and/or some other site.
|
Well, it can't possibly wind up worse than the LAST official board I was part of (GOUF) did.
|
As long as this place is around, I'm happy here. It'll probably be good for official reveals and the like, but the community here is good as is.
|
I like the community here and being able tot talk about other things, so I see no reason to use it. Plus, this place covers Rider, so this is where I'll go to discuss Rider whenever I watch it.

Eh in my experience most "official" forums are terrible.

Here it is:
http://rangernation.com/ Look that poor picture. Double Rangers, Double Rangers everywhere. |
I am totally going to flood them after a Kamen Rider adaptation and having the team ups back.

I wonder what will happen if one is to mention Super Sentai. I doubt a passing comment would result in a warning/ ban. Also, I wonder if the forum will be similar to this one where the members can discuss things other than Power Rangers.
|
I'm not really familiar with "Official" boards, but I doubt they'd be angry at users for talking Sentai, especially with Shout! Factory making Sentai infinitely more available to the public than ever before.
|
the only official board I was ever a part of was the Paramount Transformers movie message board. There was a VERY vocal opposition to the movie there. And mods were practically non-existent, so there were some very vicious fights on there that would make even a sailor blush.
|
I haven't talked much power rangers here, and what I have discussed has been toys alone, but at least there's room to talk here! I tried ranger board because I had a question about morpher holsters, but the restrictions before new users can post made me give up. I'd be welcoming to a board where power rangers could be discussed in a more broad sense (I imagine there will be separate subforums for various subjects within the fandom/franchise). I doubt it will build a community that would threaten existing communities, but it might be a less intimidating, more g-rated place where new people can feel more welcome, and name calling/fighting isn't tolerated.

I never really join message boards run by official companies. The only time I have join one was when Funimation used to have a official DBZ message board back in 2000. They had a section for both spoilers and non spoilers. They where strict on spoiling things for the series that is not on Toonami and you would be banned if you use any type of bad words at the time.
