KITsubs release thread
I figured since this was a tokusatsu board (and not specifically a toy-centric board like the old toyark) that it might make sense to promote our little project here.
For those of you that don't know us, we're a group dedicated to releasing fansubs of older Kamen Rider series. The group was born out of a pet project between myself and UK Windom, with the intention of releasing the first few episodes of every unsubbed Showa Kamen Rider series, in hopes of kickstarting fansubbers. After a while, we decided to become a dedicated group. Now we have three members (Me, UK Windom, and Sky79) and we split the work between our two main projects, Kamen Rider and Skyrider. We've also release the Let's Go Kamen Riders net movies, the Decade stage show, some episodes of Super-1, and we've helped other groups with various projects. Like Over-Time's Let's Go Kamen Riders release, Midnight Crews Kamen Rider Stronger, and Shinkenanon's Shinkenger scrubs. As of this post we JUST released episode 24 of the original Kamen Rider, and we've released 23 episodes of Skyrider so far. I'd love to use this thread as another outlet for interacting with fans, getting input on episodes, and letting everyone know when new releases are out! I don't know the board's policy for direct linking to episodes, so for now I'll just provide our blog and release page links. I'll be sure to keep you guys up to date on any new releases! Our Blog Our Release Page |
Great to know you guys have been so involved in the fansub community! I've been interested in seeing both the original series and Skyrider for some times so I guess now I can get started!
Also direct links to the downloads would be against board rules so lets refrain from that. And we also have a thread specifically dedicated and stickied in this sub-forum as a fansub database of sorts. If you'd like to repost your info and links to your blog here Rider Subs Database then that would be awesome. As always with the fansub community please keep up the awesome work! |

And yeah, I messaged BaltanII on twitter about the direct linking thing prior to posting, but I didn't hear back from him, so I went with my gut. So if anything else, I'll just use this thread to inform people that SOMETHING is available SOMEWHERE. I hope you enjoy the shows! Kamen Rider (the original) is a personal favorite show of mine, and it has been forever. Skyrider on the other hand is a show that I had brushed off as being a crappy remake, and I never really gave it much of a chance. Until we started translating it, that is... then I fell in love with it. It's just so much fun. Definitely check it out! |
Thanks dude! I will definitely be checking out some of the old school Kamen Rider!
|
I have to say, it's kind of impressive someone is actually subbing the original Kamen Rider, I always figured people just don't care enough about stupid-old-seventies-stuff-like-that to properly do it. Have fun getting all 90-ish episodes subbed, because people really deserve to see them.
|
I'm just glad you guys don't just disappear after like 6 episodes like so many Sentai sub groups are wont to do.

I've been a huge fan of the original series for years. I guess it was just my destiny to get this group organized and get the episodes out there... Quote:

I love KITsubs' work; I've been following you guys since you were just doing Skyrider and Super-1. It's nice to see a group doing older shows that can keep a consistent schedule. Plus, from what I've seen, Jeeg is definitely one of the nicest guys in fansubbing today.

Hey, quick question.
Why did you decide to sub Skyrider? Especially since you were so willing to write it off initially? |
Quote:
After the group disbanded, he came to me with some scripts for X, Super-1, and Skyrider. The idea was to get some episodes out for each series that hadn't had any groups working on it. X was actually the first we did, then we wanted to do 4 episodes of each series. We ended up deciding on Skyrider and Super-1, I think because they were popular in the country that UK Windom is from. I can't remember exactly why right now, but I remember Super-1 being a pain because of all of the sci-fi terms causing problems. Anyway, sorry for the long story... EVENTUALLY we decided on Skyrider because it was relatively short, and there were so many cameos from past Riders. And maybe because deep down, we knew that it was a show that was least likely to get any attention from any other groups. tl;dr - The head translator wanted to do it! |

All this is reminding me that I haven't finished Amazon yet. :P But I'll pick up Kamen Rider after I look for Amazon subbed (It always was kind of odd to have watched so many series and never even seen an episode of the original series) |

http://www.hinotori-fansubs.com/ The original series is great for fans that started on the newer series. You really get to see where a lot of the traditions and references in the newer shows come from. |
Hey guys, we just reuploaded the links for episode 19 of Kamen Rider. They weren't on Megaupload, but they weren't working for some people. You can always check our release page for the latest download links for older releases:
http://kitsubs.blogspot.com/2011/03/...ease-post.html If any of you find any dead links, let us know! We're in the process of reuploading our scripts (those were all hosted on megaupload) but we want to make sure that everything is in working order. |
I'm REALLY glad to see that you guys weren't hit by the shutdown of Megaupload. I'm happy to finally be getting my Skyrider on :) I'll let you know if any of the links don't work. I'm hoping to burn my way through this and the classic series while I'm finishing up Black from Century Kings
|
Ok, so we weren't affected by the Megaupload shutdown... but we WERE affected by the "almost everything else" shutdown. But we've been rebuilding since then.
For now, we've got all of our Skyrider episodes backed up on Rapidshare (available on the blog) All of our scripts are up, too. We've also got two big batch torrents of all of our Kamen Rider episodes, each batch in BOTH formats. Those are on the blog too. For tonight, we've got Kamen Rider episode 25! Have some links: [Our past releases] [Blog post about Kamen Rider batch torrents] Episode 25: [MKV Torrent] [AVI Torrent] [MKV DDL] [AVI DDL] ps: I got the ok to post links, I swear! |
I definitely need to start getting the original Kamen Rider subs. I think they would go great the classic Ultraman stuff I have! :) Plus I have my plushie Kamen Rider I could bust out when I watch them.

I want a plush Hongo :(

1 Attachment(s)
Here is my plush Kamen Rider. I won this off of eBay from a Japanese seller back in like 1999 or so. It was a prize from a UFO Claw Grabber game. I am always on the lookout for other plush Riders and/or Ultramen in this style but most of the plushies I see don't have this style to them.

That's awesome.

Wow, this latest episode was fantastic. Thanks again for subbing it, Jeeg and crew. It was a refreshing change of pace to see Hayato's Bitches actually being competent for a change, even if it was most likely because this was filmed well before it aired and they hadn't become the total airheads they usually are (or at least relatively non-airheaded in Mari's case). Pity this will be the last time we see Hiromi. Not so much the same for Michi.
Fun bit of trivia for this episode: these last two episodes were later redone as an episode of V3 during the Archbishop Wing arc, as were three other classic episodes from the original series. Reruns weren't really common back in the early 70s so in order to show some of the really classic episodes of the original series again they were just remade for V3. Not to slight V3 and its general awesomeness, but of the ones I've seen both versions of, I prefer the originals (it doesn't help that Archbishop Wing is probably the most boring general in the entire Showa era). |

ANYWAY... that's really funny about the V3 episode, especially because MushrooMorgue's actor (at least, his human form) plays Archbishop Wing in V3. Interestingly, this is also why so many plot tropes and twists got reused over the years in Kamen Rider (and many other shows, not just limited to Japan either). There was no home video, and reruns were generally avoided (they were seen as being unprofitable, which is funny because reruns makes up MOST of US television today) So shows would often reuse plotlines, footage, sometimes entire episodes, and fans were either generally unaware, or they appreciated seeing something they enjoyed the first time. There was a great article on this on the (now defunct) Henshin Heroes site back in the day. |

Alright, just watched the first episode of Kamen Rider and I am grinning ear to ear.
First off a BIG THANKS to Steel A Jeeg and his crew at KITSUBS for subbing this series. Having gotten into tokusatsu via watching Godzilla, King of the Monsters, Ghidorah, The Three Headed Monster, Rodan, and Monster Zero when I was 4, I have a real appreciation for the "Golden Age" toku stuff. And having never seen the original Kamen Rider before, getting a chance to see it was a real treat. Secondly, this was absolutely fantastic fun. One of my favorite elements of the Kamen Rider series is the idea that the hero is turned into some sort of monster by the Big Bad and then he has to fight them. Seeing Hongo strapped to the table while the Shocker scientists tell him that they have made him a cyborg really got me going. Such a classic set up! And the fight with SpiderMan at the end was really nice too. None of the flashy stuff like we get nowadays, just straight up fighting with some camera trickery thrown in to make things look "weird" for the monster and the Shockers. I never put two and two together before, but man, I'd like to see a meet up of Kamen Rider and Steve Austin. :lol Thanks again for the sub and I will definitely be watching more! :D |

Thanks for all of the praise! It means a lot to the team. |
Hey guys, we're back with another new release. Well, a new release and a BUNCH of old releases.
Tonight's episode is Skyrider 24, which is pretty gruesome! However, instead of going into detail about the episode, I'll wager a guess that not everyone has gotten into Skyrider yet. It's definitely not at the top of most people's to watch lists. Don't worry, we've got you covered. Now that we've got 24 episodes of Skyrider done, we released batch torrents for everything we've released so far. So grab them, and give Skyrider a chance. It's a lot more fun than you're expecting, I promise. I know from experience, I never gave Skyrider a chance until we actually started subbing it. Now it's one of my all time favorites. Yay, more Skyrider. It took me awhile to warm up to it, but I've really come to love this show. Even when it's just Hiroshi and his supporting cast without any guest stars.

Just had time to sit down and watch the episode. I love the baton girl; it's like Toei were actively thinking "what can we do to make a Rider girl look even more pathetic and useless?" :lol
|
Really enjoying the original Kamen Rider series; many thanks for the subs!! This may have been answered elsewhere, but how many more will there be after the initial 24?

That said, if you check the project status on our blog, you can see that we start working on new episodes all of the time. I just finished a rough draft for episode 33 a few weeks ago, and I'll have the rough draft for 34 finished soon! I hope that helps. Sorry for the text bomb. |

Last night we release Kamen Rider Skyrider, episode 25!
This episode is hard to describe without spoiling too much of what makes it so good. But trust me, it's insane. There's so much insanity going on throughout this episode, that by the time it starts to turn dark, you haven't even noticed it. And then it just hits you out of nowhere what you've just witnessed. It's also a great episode that explores Hiroshi's character (and all 70's era superheroes, for that matter) as being so kindhearted that they border on naive. It's common to see this trope subverted these days, with shows like Venture Bros. and such, but it was a new concept for a fun kid's show in that era. Anyway, enough rambling. Have an episode: Kamen Rider Skyrider episode 25: [MKV] [AVI] [MKV Torrent] [AVI Torrent] Blog Post |
